Their care started for our beautiful mom in her residential home, then at the RCFE when she needed more care, and could not live alone, then due to another stroke, they transferred her to their beautiful hospice home in Bonita for her last days. The care, compassion, professionalism was absolutely amazing. Our Hospice team at home was powerful, and they told us when it was time to come to Bonita for the final days. Staffers are specific experts. In this imperfect world, facing the loss of a six-decade husband, I was stunned by how Hospice WORKS!

Why are people saying such mean things about Fredricka Manor?…read more I just visited yesterday, My parents were there 8 years ago and they have totally upgraded the look from the Great Generation to the Baby Boomer generation. I loved it for my parents but it truly has sparked up for the new genertion coming in. The food looked and tasted delicious and far better than any I saw on pictures from other places. The rooms are clean, fresh and updated. The social calendars couldn't be better and the residences I met who were close to my age, loved it. They couldn't say enough good things about it and they were all participating in different activities from each other. Not only were activities abundant but holidays were made to be celebrated with special events offered and residences were signing up for trips to Lambs House Theater to upcoming plays, Peohe's was another sign up opportunity. I could say more but I do think they are not represented fairly. You should check them out! Susan Kennedy

My friend was approved to live there for one year. Then the salesperson abruptly changed her mind, saying my friend did not have enough money to live there long-term. This salesperson would have saved us a lot of aggravation, time, and expense if she had been upfront about the financial requirements from the very beginning. She told us Frederika Manor is a "non-profit" organization, but clearly it is all about "profit/money".

I would avoid Apreva Hospice. My experience with them was extremely disappointing and added…read moresignificant stress during an already difficult time. Rather than providing comfort and support, I found their care to be poorly coordinated, inadequately individualized, and at times clinically inappropriate. My sister had a complex medical history that included recurrent syncopal (fainting) episodes. Unfortunately, hospice staff repeatedly interpreted these episodes as signs that she was actively dying or "transitioning" without adequately reviewing her medical history or understanding her underlying condition. After one such episode, I received a call from a hospice representative through an out-of-state call center recommending that morphine be started immediately. There was no apparent clinical indication for morphine at that time, and the caller was unable to explain the rationale for the recommendation or answer basic questions. This was both unsettling and concerning. On another occasion, a hospice nurse recommended oral antibiotics for a suspected aspiration-related infection. At the time, my sister was unresponsive and not eating or drinking, making oral administration impractical. Concerned about the recommendation, I had her evaluated in the Emergency Department. No infection was found, no antibiotics were indicated, and her symptoms were ultimately attributed to another syncopal episode from which she later recovered. I was also told that all of my sister's oral medications should be discontinued, despite the fact that she was still taking medications orally and there was no clear clinical reason to stop them. This recommendation created unnecessary anxiety and confusion. The hospice chaplain's conduct was also unprofessional. Facility staff ultimately asked him not to return after he put his feet on a table and requested flowers that were being used for a resident activity. Several nurses at the care facility privately expressed concerns about the quality of hospice care they were observing and recommended that I consider changing hospice providers. By that point, my sister's condition had become increasingly unstable, and I felt that changing providers would only add more stress. She passed away later that week. What was perhaps most disappointing was the lack of follow-up after her death. Her primary hospice nurse never contacted me to offer condolences, answer questions, or provide support. As an advanced practice healthcare provider, I recognized a number of concerning issues that may not be apparent to families without medical training. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hospice organization.

My mom was there for 2 weeks, and they were so attentive, kind, compassionate. Kept her comfortable, clean/bathe, checking on her every hour, turning her. The nurses and staff were very welcoming of our family coming to visit, my brother and I, plus our significant others spent days with my mom and we never felt unwelcome, they checked on us as much as they checked on my mom. On my mom's second to last day her family came to visit her, about 20 people, some in the room with her some out in the living areas, we were as comfortable as if it was our own home. It was truly a full circle care. I'm forever going to be grateful to Parkway hospice home and Sharp for making my mom's last moments as comfortable as they can be, under the circumstances.

My father-in-law was admitted to Parkview Hospice home on June 8th after one week at Sharp Memorial…read moreand 5 days at Arbor Hills Nursing. It was clear he was near the end of his life and my wife and I believed he would not live even through that first night. I will highlight individuals in a moment but everyone who was involved with dad's care was absolutely amazing! It takes a special person not just to care for the terminally ill but be compassionate and kind every step of the way. Briefly, Parkview is a large home in a normal neighborhood in Del Cerro (a community across the freeway from SDSU). Their maximum patient load is 4! Even in the middle of the night there are 3 staff members (nurses and a homemaker) to look after their patients needs -- more during the day. The home is impeccably clean and you can visit your loved one 24/7. There was a fold out in dad's room and we could have spent the night if we wanted to. When they saw the stress my wife and I were facing watching her dad's decline, their care and compassion extended to us too. Dad wanted to die at home but circumstances beyond control prevented us from making that so. The care he received was much more extensive than he would have received in his own home. We made it clear we didn't want dad to suffer and they stayed on top of his pain medications and performed regular turning to prevent bed sores. On dad's first full day at Parkview, I noticed a Navy cap on the daily volunteer Gilbert. I mentioned that my father-in-law had served in the Navy and before that day was out, Gil had set up a small ceremony where he presented a US flag that had flown on the USS Midway just the day before. It was a very emotional moment. The nursing staff on dad's team (Toni, Malia, Heidi and Mitch) were not just professional, they showed a degree of compassion and kindness my wife and I could not have expected. I don't know where they find the strength to help their patients through their end of life week in and out. They are simply amazing human beings. Dr. Verma (the onsite doctor) spend a long time with my wife and I the first day getting dad's health history and helping us understand what was happening at that moment. A social worker is also part of the team and Richard visited us several times during dad's 8 days at Parkview. His social work had more to do with us and he continues to council us now that dad has passed. Soloman is the Chaplin at Parkview and he prayed with dad to help comfort his transition. Parkview is part of Sharp Memorial and has three such homes in the San Diego area. If you or a loved one ever needs hospice care, it is my humble and firm conviction you could not find better care and compassion than with Parkview and the Sharp Grossmont Hospice team.

The staff showed remarkable patience and kindness, especially in helping her with frequent toileting and ensuring she was always clean and comfortable. When she first arrived after her fall, she was in significant pain--so much so that even turning in bed or transferring was extremely difficult. The team handled her care with such gentleness and understanding during that challenging time. Thanks to the dedication and support from the rehab team, she made steady progress and, within just three weeks, was able to leave and walk again using her walker. We greatly appreciate the excellent coordination of care with the team from St. Paul's PACE, (special thanks to Bo, social worker), which helped ensure a smooth and safe transition back to her assisted living. Their collaboration and attention to detail gave us confidence and peace of mind during the discharge process. Our special thanks as well to Dr. Jaime Stull, who made herself readily available to promptly address any issues. Her thoughtful guidance and collaborative recommendations were invaluable and deeply appreciated. My family sincerely appreciate the professionalism, compassion, and hard work of the entire team. Gosh, where to begin! My father William, has been living and thriving at ActivCare Rolling Hills…read morefor more than a year now. He was residing at another assisted living/memory care facility in San Diego which met his needs for 3 years. His Alzheimers continued to progress leading to falls and behavioral issues which were no longer manageble there. We had to find Dad a new home which could meet his needs. After visiting several other places, many online due to COVID restrictions, we heard about Rolling Hills in passing. We made an appointment to visit and tour with Sophia and the rest is history. My wife and I knew that day we wanted Dad to live there. I have said this many, many times over the past year..... This has been our miracle, such a blessing for Dad and our family! We were concerned that the extent of Dad's behaviors of dementia would rule him out for admission. Dad was evaluated thoroughly and within several days (It took a bit longer due to COVID testing at the time). we moved him into his new home. From DAY 1 my father has thrived at Rolling Hills. Despite the relentless challenges and progression of an Alzheimers diagnosis, he is truly 'living' with the best quality of life that we could hope for ALL due to the staff and care he continues to receives 24/7! From the moment he wakes up in the morning, they have him dressed and out of his room, into the big 'great room' where he can socialize, roam, participate in activities and eat until it's time to crawl into bed at the end of the day. The staff treats Dad with dignity, respect and love. They have become part of Dad's family; he trusts them. They have taken the time to understand his ways and they never give up trying to help him even at his most trying moments. The Rolling Hills administration team led by BB Smith is hands on! They aren't hidden away is back offices somewhere. We often find them in the great room assisting the residents and socializing with them. They take the time to 'know' each resident. The care team is THE BEST! They truly perform a ministry caring for persons with all types of dementia and other cognitive issues. They approach each resident individually. The needs can change hour to hour and they meet this challenge. We are so blown away over and over at how they work as a team to give Dad and everyone the best quality of life possible on a daily basis. The activities are endless and tailored to meet the needs of each resident. My wife and I have participated in several ourselves and have had a lot of fun! It truly takes a solid team to keep Rolling Hills running so smoothly and professionally. Maintenance, Housekeeping, Nursing, Admin, Dietary, Activities... The Rolling Hills team ACROSS THE BOARD, make it happen! I will conclude with this: Since Dad began living at Rolling Hills we can sleep solidly at night; enjoy time with friends, go out of town all the while having full confidence and trust in everyone that Dad is surrounded by at ActivCare of Rolling Hills. We are grateful beyond measure! Kim and Karen
