You know how the internal conversation goes with yourself; uuggg.... "I have to hire a contractor for XYZ", schedule site visits, get quotes, follow up questions.... by the time you've had 6 companies come to your house, you just want it over with. Last year we started our adventure of getting a new fence installed. I called the "big 2" fence companies in the area (you know who they are). I had to re-read the quotes several times. Simple 6ft vinyl/PVC grey fence with post caps and spring hinged latching gate. I asked "would the fence be gold plated? or does this price include the rest of the neighborhood?" Niether thought I was funny. Late winter this year (2026) we decided to contact medium size/ more local companies. Every estimator we met was personable and knowledgeable. But Fabio from Fence 101 (owner) came prepared with samples, booklets, and the most important thing.... time. He and I walked around my yard, assessed what I had, gave suggestions, showed me options, discussed materials and we talked about family/kids etc. It was like talking to that new person you meet, that you immediately have repour with. He is really a quality gentleman. (I have a Gibbs gut that says so). All the quotes we received this year were within a hundred bucks or so of eachother. Price was not the major factor in our decision to hire F101, but their price the most economical and competitive. The install crew arrived when they were scheduled and worked ALL day; of both two days. They didn't bang out at 2pm like most contractors, these guys were gettin' it done. When I asked them questions about panels, post depth, wind resistance, yadda yadda, they stopped working, took the time to fully answer my queries and were happy to engage. These guys were hard working, strong, accurate and respectful of my small piece of the world. And they were having fun. In two days 95% of the job was complete. The gate and post tops came on a separate order. The gate arrived at Fabio's shop the wrong color. He contacted me right away, and informed me he already had the correct color on order. It was being delivered the next day and would be installed ASAP ... on a SATURDAY! SATURDAY? Really? I was impressed. Fabio himself and (what I believed to be) his lead field person, installed the post caps and gate before I got home from grocery shopping. (my wife being away on a trip) They had it complete by 10:30 AM. Boom! It was done. Seriously 5 stars . When the Queen returned she was blown away! She was stunned as to how awesome it looked. Fence 101 asks for half down deposit, which more than resonible. They have a bunch of colors available with different posts caps and hardware. Materials are USA local NY. Price includes install and material warranty. They also took my 40 year old stockade fence down for recycling. Fabio followed up with us after the job to make sure there were no issues. I'm including some pictures and videos (from my security cameras) of the work; his crew removing the old fence, installing the new, etc. One vid clip is Fabio on the phone with me discussing which way the gate should open/close/swing/latch. And check out his dancing moves! I will be following up with Fence 101 to purchase gate handles, that I forgot to add to the initial install. He came by, and I gave him an overview of what my condo was looking to achieve. Our front garden was a mess with weeds growing as tall as me. We also had weeds growing along our back yard fence line and a garden where my previous neighbors were planting flowers. The rear garden bed was filled with rocks too. Aroldo advised that his team can remove all of the weeds in the 3 locations, put down fertilizer and mulch and even a cloth to prevent weeds from coming back. He also indicated that he can use the rocks to create a barrier of the garden beds in the front and back. He provided some options, but we ultimately decided on the basic package. He even agreed to transfer flowers over from the back to the front, and promised to remove some branches on the side of the house that was blocking the pathway. His team came and did a fantastic job. My condo neighbors, my wife, and I are so happy with the job that Aroldo's team has done. We have nothing but great praises. We look forward to hiring him again in the future.

After several attempts to just hire Golden Hill Landscaping & Construction (during a bid process),…read moreI finally did. The rates seemed comparable, at first. However, there were many projects to be completed at my deceased mother's house. Because I am disabled and not able to get to the property, I couldn't see how badly I was taken advantage of. Not only did I pay for a job they did not do, I also paid for another job that is unfinished, plus a french drain that is causing a sink hole, and the buried equipment is now above ground. All 3 of these projects pose safety risks. The french drain collapse is only 6 months after installation. After bringing these issues to the owners attention (the unfinished project I'd requested be completed for months), the owner began ignoring me. When I mentioned that litigation was going to move forward, the owner said he'd look at the work that week then blew me off again. When they actually do work, Golden Hill's quality of work is atrocious and will need to be fixed. They broke the house vinyl siding when cutting down a tree branch and refused to fix it. I hired a contractor to fix that. They will overcharge (snowplowing is expensive), take advantage of you if you are a senior or disabled, and will try to get paid without working. They should not be in business and allowed to take advantage. I now have to pay someone else to fix their work, finish their work, and do a $375 job they never did. They've been paid over $10,000, with more work to be done at multiple properties. They agreed to do a quote at a second property, then never showed up. One would figure, with that kind if business, a company would want to perform quality work and respond to a dedicated customer. Aroldo at Golden Hill Landscaping & Construction will do a poor job or not at all, blow off appointments, ignore requests, and refuse to fix problems. He will, however, not hesitate to pick up a check. You should not ever hire them. If you do, be prepared to throw money away.
