Band-aid doctor...find another... I am a 45 year-old triathlete who was recently diagnosed as…read morehaving ulcerative colitis by Dr. Greenwood. Her bedside manner delivering the news was terrible. She offered little education or hope and said I would have to use a suppository every day for the rest of my life. She did not ask me one question about diet during our first appointment. For about a month, after stopping my intake of caffeine, alcohol and using CBD oil, I was 95% symptom-free for nearly a year. Then the UC came back strongly with a vengeance. Unfortunately, I had not found another GI doctor so I had no choice but to go back to Dr. Greenwood since an appointment with someone else was going to take at least a month. Dr. Greenwood spent more time with me round #2 but again-she offered no hope/education and said to begin taking Canasa, the suppository. I reluctantly began the Canasa and after a week and a half my symptoms were not under control. I had a significant amount of blood in my stool and had diarrhea for two weeks straight. Dr. Greenwood never called to check in on me but thankfully some friends urged me to call in and ask for steroids. Seems like the doctor should be making recommendations based on symptoms rather than the other way around. The dosage of steroids she prescribed me did nothing and after another week of suffering (sleep deprivation, abdominal cramps, weight loss), I was able to get in with another GI at another practice who a) listened to me b) asked questions and c) prescribed a stronger steroid which finally started alleviating my symptoms. I needlessly suffered two weeks and was in a pretty dark place unnecessarily. Pharmaceutical companies love physicians like Dr. Greenwood - "here take this for the rest of your life and let's not explore other avenues to get you better". There are better doctors at there...I would find one and highly recommend The Sound Clinic. As a side note: Dr. Greenwood said she was unaware of how much Canasa cost ($2K/mo) nor that there was a generic ($5/mo).

The last time and the only time I called to talk to him because I was having a serious issue he never called me back. I left several messages and explained that my family doctor wanted me to talk to him because it was serious.
