While doing an internet search for a local provider, I came across an ad for virtual colonoscopy with Front Range Preventive Imaging. Did a bit of research and it sounded less invasive, faster, without sedation, and took a look at surrounding structures besides the colon using CT scan technology. Called and spoke with a super helpful and professional woman who checked with my insurance to see if it was covered, which it was. Scheduled, received prep and instructions in the mail a week prior to the procedure. Prep was not bad at all the day before; fasting, laxatives, lots of fluids. Procedure was fast and easy; all the staff was very nice and professional, explained each step thoroughly, took about 15 min to explain what would happen, only about 10 min to run me through the machine. No sedation, I was on my way to a big breakfast right after. Had to call a week later for results, but I think that was because I didn't specify where to send them correctly. They emailed them promptly. Report was very thorough and in addition to my colon remarked on findings of all surrounding organs and boney structures. I am super impressed and happy with my experience and would recommend this over conventional colonoscopy to anyone without a family history or prior finding of polyps. The only downside is that if there are any polyps found, they can't remove them during this procedure, you have to go back in for the convention route.

And let me tell you--MRIs and ultrasounds are not all created equal. The difference between a well-trained technician and a "winging it" one can be the difference between clarity and chaos in radiology. That said, the Boulder HealthImages team deserves a standing ovation (or at least a polite golf clap in the waiting room). They've mastered the art of making patients feel comfortable, welcomed, and even a little less like human science experiments. Their proactive communication, operational efficiency and imaging expertise set them apart from the rest. Check-in paperwork? Online. Easy. Done. (Pro tip: if you're allergic to online forms, don't take it out on the staff) Once you've completed the initial intake, future appointments are a breeze. Wait times? Practically nonexistent. I've walked in for x-rays twice and been whisked back almost immediately. MRI and ultrasound appointments? Not only punctual, but often started earlier than scheduled. You can request a disc with your images, if taking it to a doctor that does not have HealthImages portal access. Prefer digital? The patient portal has you covered. One caution: the technical imaging here is top notch, but I personally rely on my specialist to read and interpret the images. I don't depend on the radiologist's determination alone, and I recommend others do the same.

However, they wanted $10 to mail a disk to my physician where Health Images didn't require any money at all and was happy to do it. I called back later that evening because I forgot to ensure the radiologist report was along with it. Rhonda answer the phone and was extremely rude,in fact belligerent, from the beginning of the conversation to the end. She is one of the rudest front desk people I have ever encountered. Having already had cancer, the scare of course was that I might have a tumor in my brain. And I've already had several MRI scans, so I know what is involved. Given my health problems, as you might imagine, I've had a LOT of interaction with lots of health services providers over the past couple years. And I've been treated like a chunk of meat before, and long ago lost any hope of being treated with dignity; that's just how the system is, I guess. But this is the first and only time I've ever been treated so badly, so rudely, that I quite literally told the technician "F#$% you, I'm going somewhere else" and walked out of the facility. Here's how it goes at this joint: you walk in the west door, where they've got a counter jammed in a corner of the urgent care clinic. They hand you the obligatory stack of questionnaires and billing forms and send you over to sit at a little table in front of the entry doors, where the cold wind blows your paperwork off the table while patients troop in and out of the door into the clinic. They want you to be 30 minutes early for your appointment to do all this paperwork, of course. So I dutifully arrived at 10:30 for my 11:00 appointment, filled out the paperwork, and sat with my coat and hat on in the "breezeway" wishing there was at least a magazine left by the last person.... finally at 11:30 the tech comes out. Looks at me but doesn't acknowledge me at all. Just goes over to the counter and chit chats for a while with the receptionists. Then brings a clipboard over and says "Matt? follow me" and marches off. No apology for making me sit there, nothing. No "hi, my name is...." Doesn't even wait for me to stand up before she starts off down the hall. So we go into the bowels of the clinic, and in the very back she opens a closet. I swear it was a converted closet! This "changing" room isn't three feet deep if it's an inch. I don't know, maybe it's a test to tell if anyone is claustrophobic before they get in the machine? Then she tells me I need to strip naked and put on one of those ridiculous gowns. Oh, I should please leave my socks on, though. I told her A) we're scanning my head, and B) I'm only wearing sweats and a t-shirt, not anything metallic, no zippers no buttons no anything. "Well, we have protocols to follow." Yeah, I get that. MRI machines have powerful magnets and you don't want to risk the liability of somebody getting burned or injured from having anything ferrous on their person. But seriously, butt naked? How about leaving my t-shirt on under the gown? How about offering me some pajama bottoms so my fat hairy ass doesn't have to hang out in public? "No, we still have our protocols" Yeah, well.... "F$%^ you, I'm going somewhere else." Because I've already had several MRI scans in my life, I know what to expect and what not to wear - and I have never been protocol'd into humiliation before. I know it sounds trivial... but remember, I'm the guy who went through treatment for rectal cancer - hey, there's hardly any humiliation you can think of that I haven't been through already, so that should give you some idea of how rude this gal had to be for me to go off like that. So I went home, researched online to find another facility with high resolution 3 tesla machines and ended up driving all the way down to Aurora to the Anschutz hospital. Where I was treated very nicely, given a comfy chair to sit in, called by name and chatted up with polite conversation, told it was OK to leave my t-shirt on under my gown because it's chilly in the exam room, and given some pajama bottoms to wear without even having to ask for any of it. Does the tech's attitude really matter at a diagnostic imaging center? I dunno, perhaps not. But I'll tell you what, there was no way in hell I was trusting them to give a damn about me or my health, given how I was treated.

At the time I was unaware that the business establishment still required masks to be worn. I entered without one. The 2 registration clerks rudely told me to put a mask on and promptly handed me a mask, to which I replied that I had a mask in my pocket. I took it out of my pocket, just after the clerk again rudely told me to put it on immediately to which I obliged. I put my mask on, completed checking in and proceeded to the Laboratory waiting area. There was no further discussion on masks. No confrontation and no refusal on my part. To my knowledge all was well. Today however, I received an email from my employer that a CMC employee submitted a complaint, stating that I refused to wear my mask. Not only did the employee that called, blatantly LIE she also went through my personal file to find out MY personal work information. I want to preface that to my knowledge all mask mandates had been lifted in the state of Colorado, so any mask requirement currently in place is related to the individual business policy/preference and NOT legally law or mandate. Additionally I would confidently request the office to pull up surveillance tapes in the lobby that show me wearing a mask with no objection. I strongly advice Community Medical Center to better inform their employees of what is and isn't acceptable in their profession. Starting with client confidentially and personal integrity. The employee clearly took unacceptable action for personal leverage, not based on honesty or fact. This is not only a breech in patient confidentiality it's additionally defamation of character and false accusation. I would greatly appreciate if a representative from human resources would contact me regarding this matter. Furthermore I don't recommend Community Medical center Lafayette for any health or wellness needs.
