Shady leasing practices and/or blatant discrimination: Maddie from Goldwyn corresponded with us about this property and set up a showing with us - she led us to believe a unit was available and at no time did she mention the unit was spoken for. I showed up for the tour and the first thing she says is that there's already an application in on the unit but will show it to me anyway ... why? Then she mentions there's another similar unit coming available so proceeds to show me the spoken for unit ... okay, no problem. I assume this is done so that I am able to see a unit and just apply for the coming unit. At the end of the showing, Maddie now tells me that the second unit coming available *also* has an application in on it already. Um ... why wasn't this mentioned at the start of the tour? Now - I understand that leasing agents perhaps secure "plan B" prospects in case a current application on a unit goes through - fine. But why the hell wouldn't this be disclosed to me before I waste my time driving an hour round trip for the showing? Shouldn't it be my decision as to whether I choose to bother viewing the units when any coming available are already spok en for? And - why was it okay to lead me to believe that another unit was available until the end of the tour - only to tell me that this unit, too, was suddenly spoken for? I had mentioned that the unit was for my wife and I (we're a gay couple). Seems like the units were suddenly 'spoken for' after this discovery. I have never, ever, had a leasing agent not tell me that an application was already in for a unit I was interested in before choosing to view it. Either this was blatant unprofessionalism or blatant discrimination. Either way - don't rent from these people. read more

The location is ideal and the view from the apartment is beautiful. However if you have any issues, don't count on management to fix them. Property manager Erika is unresponsive and unprofessional. There are tenants who know this and take advantage, such as playing loud music late into the night, dogs barking all night long, and stealing delivery packages. There are also Airbnb properties on location where illicit activities take place regularly. You will be charmed by the beautiful apartment, but don't move in, the stress is not worth it. read more

I lived in the Remington Lofts for a year 2014-2015, after living for two years at the Elk Terminal (which I loved but the cost became too prohibitive). The Remington was ideal because of the cost saving factors: 2 bdrm/2bth unit, cable/wifi, and garage for significantly less than the Elk Terminal. While there was one issue while I lived there, that was relating to other tenants (i.e., drug raid my first few weeks there - respectable college students allegedly manufacturing narcotics). I loved my unit - it was a corner unit with windows galore and quiet... I was never awaken by anything other than the train and after a while the train simply became "white noise." My neighbors were generally quiet and friendly and kept to themselves, much like myself. Using the card operated washers/dryers took getting used to as the Elk Terminals had the w/d within the unit; but for $250 savings, I can walk a couple feet. I stayed only for a year, as my intent was to save additional monies to purchase a home. If I were able to purchase my unit at the Remington, I would have carefully considered doing so as the concrete floors, the high-end appliances, etc are difficult to compete with. Luckily I was able to find a near-new build and add similar finishes. I have encourage new arrivals to check out the Remington Lofts. If I ever had to return to renting, I would go back in a heart-beat! read more

Updated 2020 review. I do not live at the lofts. I went to look at two different units. The management is very unprofessional. The building was dirty. There is no parking available, the paid parking that is $75 per spot in the basement isn't very nice, many of the spots are full of totes and mattresses, furniture etc. People are using them as storage units and it makes the whole thing look like the parking garage is full of garbage. The cabinets and doors inside the units are very cheap and the elevator did not work. A few of the tenants I spoke to told me that they are not happy with the rent situation, the units are very expensive and you don't get very much. all the parking spots are on Oliver Street, which is not a very safe place. The gym is permanently closed and currently for sale, also there are many fees associated with applying, it's just not a great place and I don't recommend it. read more

I could list all the issues I've had with this apartment but none of them compare to the way tenants are treated by kissling. If you complain about this smallest issue you are belittled. They actually think they are doing you a favor by letting you pay $2000+ a month for rent. I will never live in a kissling owned property again. Been renting here since June 2012. At first it was made to seem luxurious and staff and the building manager were super friendly and helpful with the move. After a week, the honeymoon was over. PROS: -easy access to 290 -high ceilings, semi open floor plan depending on what apt you choose -walk in showers, great closet space -gas range stove + diswasher CONS: 1. dishwasher (didn't have working dishwasher for over month) kept leaking all over the floor. 2. Leaking ceiling and window; still not fixed after months. Claim they can't fix it until nice weather. It ruined my rug, and have to keep a container to catch the water so it doesn't ruin the wood work. 3. Threats of eviction and fines are out of control. 4. Trash, heaps of cigarette butts around on the apartment grounds. 5. Walls are paper thin. Can hear dogs barking, babies crying, people fighting through the walls. Can hear neighbors alarm clocks go off and telephones. 6. Parking. You have to pay for a garage parking spot (75$ a month) if you want to be able to find a parking spot on the weekends due to the volume of restaurant patrons (even worse during the summer). The "secured" parking lot across on sweeney street is a joke. There is an arm for the entrance/exit. but the other entrance is "secured" by two flower pots that people can just move out of the way and drive through. Our parking lot was promised to be secured 6 months later than they told us. 7. Multiple over maintenance issues that are not addressed in a timely manner. 8. Building manager very rude, unhelpful. Supervisor is worse. Very unprofessional. Overpriced. Living quality is advertised much higher than it is. As the other reviewer said about the train--that's the least of the problems. I only hear it about once or twice a day and I barely notice it at all. read more

This place could be spectacular I lived here for a year and i thought they were selling luxury and quite living which couldn't be further from the truth. PROS: it's right on the canal and connected to the Remington Tavern. The Tavern , though pricey, is very good. The maintenance staff are professional and helpful. CONS: the building is very noisy day and night and especially during the summer months, the one elevator is always breaking down, parking is a problem especially when the restaurant is busy, if you are on the 4th floor there is a lot of water issues with the roof thus water leaking in those apartments (i didn't have those problem as i wasn't on the 4th floor but my friends did), appliances, though very nice, broke down on me twice, not enough closet space and no lights in the closets, My friends had packages stolen from their front door twice, and lastly onsite Management is very cold. All in all the place is Loud, very expensive ($1,500 Plus) and doesn't include anything but water, live somewhere else where they treat you better. read more

After living there for a year it was an easy decision NOT to renew my lease! When paying one of the top rents in the Buffalo area one would expect to have top service....not the case here! I have lived with a leaky roof for most of the time I was there, a garage door that was broken for months and the fancy elevator that was covered with movers pads most of the time. If you want to hear your neighbors dogs and every word they say then this might be the place for you. Management is horrible and non responsive to requests for help but have no problem placing "Lease Violations" under your door for no reason. Parking is another issue....There is no parking around the building to speak of, if you want a spot it will cost you $75 per month to park at your own home. Previous reviews are spot on....Stay away, you have been warned! read more

The reason Adolph Oliver N's review is so funny is because it's total BS and most likely written by someone from Kissling Interests! (read the reviews on Kissling BTW...nothing is exaggerated...they're just rude, ignorant, incompetent, and a bunch of untrustworthy liars. Totally unprofessional. The property manager at Remington Lofts is probably the rudest and most incompetent person you're ever likely to come across. I have no idea how she could have got that job...It has to be because she knew someone at Kissling, because she is absolutely the worst property manager you could ever imagine and there's no way on Earth that she could really have gotten such a job on merit, and it shows. Her whole tone and communication style is rude, unhelpful and adversarial. But after hearing from others that have rented from Kissling, she perhaps epitomizes the Kissling Interests style?! At first glance and at face value, Remington Lofts looks quite nice, but it's all a veneer. The place was renovated on the cheap. It might look nice at first, but you soon realize that things are constructed poorly and carelessly. The roof leaks like a sieve, the windows leak, the exterior walls leak. They keep having contractors back to remove bricks and mortar all around the building exterior because they are porous and they leak into the building. Remortaring and painting sealant on to help retard water ingress is just a waste of money and a never ending job. Like applying a band aid over a gaping wound. There is no soundproofing of any consequence between the apartment units. You can literally hear your neighbors conversations through the walls at normal talking volume. You will hear every single thing your neighbor does and says. You will know what time they wake up, what they watch on the TV, what their favorite music is, when they have sex, There may as well not be any walls there at all. The smoke alarms in the units go off if you so much as boil a pot of water (I am not joking...it happened) The cooker hood vents to the inside of the units (ours did anyway) so if you cook more than one steak your entire apartment is filled with smoke. We didn't have any opening windows either so the only way we could get the smoke to dissipate was to put the airconditioning on, even in the dead of winter. The lighting used in the units is low voltage halogen lamp track lighting although the fittings used were actually meant for low power 20W accent lighting of pictures, etc. not for spacial flood lighting. Kissling installed 50W halogen lamps into the said fittings and they overheat and fail rapidly, like in a couple of weeks. We literally had lights being replaced every few weeks during the two miserable years we lived at this place. It is a joke. The property managers comment to questioning about why they don't fix the problem properly by replacing the light fittings with adequately sized and designed fixtures was, "it's just the way it is, everyone has the same problem it's not just you" She was always so busy jumping to a defensive position on any question that she would just fail to listen at all, and just ramble on about how tough her job was and fail to comprehend the question altogether. The maintenance folks must spend many hours cumulatively per month replacing halogen lamps in those of the 79 units that may be regularly occupied. A total waste of time and resources on a continuous basis, all because they scrimped on the lighting fixtures using them for an application for which they were never meant to be used. Our internet connection was never right from the moment we moved in to the moment we left. We had TWC at our apartment so many times we knew all the engineers in the region, and those that they brought in specially to solve the problem. We had conferences with the Office of the President of TWC, and at one point they came and installed a separate line just for our apt. since the issue they could also see, was sporadic. We were told that Kissling had undersized the cable feed capacity and way underestimated how much bandwidth the building would consume at any one time, so at times the connectivity inoperable. We eventually gave up trying. Everything we did fell of deaf ears. The property manager's reaction was of course to say it had nothing to do with them. At one point early after our move into the place, we could smell gas each time we walked through the kitchen. It got so bad during the weekend that we called National Fuel out to see if there was a safety issue. They discovered that whoever had installed the gas stove had not used any sealant when coupling the stove up to the gas outlet. The engineer from National Fuel said the installation was not to code and said it could easily have caused a fire or explosion. We were without airconditioning for 6 weeks the first summer we moved in. It just wouldn't work. They had "engineer" after engineer in...OK, I have run out of space..but don't say you haven't been warned! Beware!! read more

Great location, but this is no place to live if peace and quiet are desired. The lofts have the look and feel of a dormitory or hotel room and are very noisy. You'll hear your neighbor's every move. There are other issues, like security, and parking. But if one can't relax inside the home, who really cares about the 5 star restaurant (opening soon for eleven months now) and modern appliances? read more

My husband and I have lived here for a year and a half. We really enjoy our apartment with a very nice view of the canal. There is a lot going on during the summer with free concerts all the time but it is not noisy in our unit. I love walking our dogs along the canal. I will say some of the maintenance has been difficult to get scheduled but I think that is due to the warranty issues where it should be picked up by the supplier not the apartment ownership. I know the apartment management has to fight to get it covered under warranty. During the winter the indoor heated parking is certainly a plus and they do a great job of keeping the sidewalks shoveled and the driveways. read more

The lofts themselves-great, very spacious with new appliances and granite countertops. Also amazing showers. The maintenance staff, however, leaves something to be desired. They took forever to complete simple requests like lightbulb changes (14 foot ceilings means you have to call them every time a bulb in the track lighting goes out), and when I informed them multiple times that the ceiling in my apartment was leaking I was told that "this was here before I started," and "there's nothing we can do about it, we need to call a roofing company." 14 months, no roofing company, and a persistent leak in the ceiling every time it rained. Also, when you move out, be sure that your apartment is spotless, I was charged over $500 dollars for simple tasks like mopping the floor and baseboards ($60 per room!) when I was told by the supervisor "all you need to do is sweep the floors." Bottom line: nice apartments with great amenities, terrible experience with maintenance and security deposit. Renter beware. read more
