This visit was the end on June, 52° at 2pm at the summit, & 91° at our startup. It was breezy and traffic was lighter than usual. The week we were in town, every day was in the mid 90s temperature wise. Beartooth has a significant change in elevation, so as you drive, the temperature continues to drop. When we hit the Summit, it was actually quite chilly! This drive is amazing - there is something new to see around every bend! You can definitely see why they close it during the winter, as it can be very nerve-racking at times, but it was worth every minute of the drive. Absolutely make sure you do it at least once in your lifetime!

They offer relaxing rides to enjoy the breathtaking scenery from meadows down to the rivers, or more advanced rides to hells canyon where you can experience rocky terrain and steep inclines. They pair you with your horse for the week so you can really establish a bond. The fly fishing is great! They offer lessons for first timers in their pond which does not require a license or you can head down to the boulder river and enjoy some of the best fishing in the area (license required). They offer other activities such as a Jeep ride, river floating, campfire dinners, and games (volleyball, horseshoes, and roping). There is a hot tub to soak your worries away in your spare time and lots of places to sit to take the beautiful views in. You will not go hungry during your stay here! The food is homemade, fresh and prepared for cowboys and cowgirls! Enjoy meals such as steaks, pastas, potatoes, brisket, full chicken, fresh veggies, seafood, salmon (fresh!), burgers prepared over a campfire, full breakfast spread of pancakes, eggs, bacon, homemade breads, muffin and more. We brought snacks with us that we purchased in big timber and did not touch them once so leave those in big timber and bring your appetite as they do not disappoint! The best part of our stay was the staff. This is a family run operation and it shows by the level of service they provide. I haven't ever experienced something quite like this before. The level of passion, care and concern they have for each one of us was so amazing. They just want each guest to have the best time and live their life to the fullest for the week they are at their property. There are no TVs, radios, cell phones so this is a time to truly disconnect. You can choose to get a phone card which will work in the main lodge for emergencies. The staff for the summer of 2019 hit it out of the park which is why all but two of the families were repeat guests who keep coming year after year. We can't wait to return to Hawley mountain and can't speak highly enough about this magical piece of the world.

In October 2022, I booked a trip with Austin Adventures scheduled for July 2023. Austin Adventures…read morerecommended that I purchase travel insurance for the trip and provided a link to their travel insurance partner. I purchased the travel insurance. I also made airplane reservations and a hotel reservation for the night before the tour. In April, I was informed that Austin Adventures was cancelling the trip and refund my payment for the trip. However, Austin Adventures refused to refund my travel insurance premium. In addition, I lost money on the airplane tickets. My total losses were over$1000. I spoke to Austin Adventures. I explained I understood that trips are cancelled from time to time. But, that should be financially neutral to me. I lost over $1000 trying to book a trip with them and following their recommendations. I asked if they were OK with that. They told me they have been in business for over 40 years and were highly rated. In conclusion, be very careful dealing with this company. They may cancel your trip and you could lose money you have invested in it. I have since seen other reviews that have reported similar problems. Beware!

We had never been to Yellowstone, and I thought I would be able to call a few weeks ahead to book hotel rooms and a rental car, I was terribly mistaken in my naïveté. Luckily, we stumbled across Austin Adventures in a travel magazine and gave them a call to see if we could book one of their family tours. They had one opening left on the first tour of the season and we jumped on it. I will wholeheartedly say that this was one of the best family vacations we have ever experienced. The tour guides were unbelievably knowledgeable about the park, environment, wildlife, etc. They provided an amazing experience throughout the park, at the attractions, on the hiking trail, in the hotels; everything was taken care of. Immediately after our vacation, we booked a tour for my wife's parents and our children. Again, they delivered an amazing customer experience. After that trip, we booked a private tour for our employees. This was the last tour of the season, which could have meant AA might have been experiencing some fatigue from a long season. But, it was anything but that, we had a wonderful tour. Our employees still speak about it to this day. We had another tour this season, everybody thoroughly enjoyed themselves. AA has only improved on their impeccable customer service.

They sell maps to help you get around, and the staff is ready to answer questions about any of the merch. They've got a hiking shoe selection that's hard to beat, and lots of the coolest latest gadgets that'll help you get over the river and through the woods. There's a second story to this place, I don't think there's an elevator available. One of my favorite things about this store are the displays- in the window and on the sales floor, they have little camping scenes set up, where they're highlighting their gear or clothing. This is a great outfitters to get outfitted in before going on that grand journey through the Great Outdoors.

The hours reflect the NPS visitor center in Lovell, WY, whereas the actual recreation area is not…read morelocked or guarded. The visitor center has a relief map of Bighorn Canyon and the surrounding areas which is cool to look at. There's also some geological, historical and photo exhibits on the natural and cultural history of the area. There's even a sign about "What's that smell?" in the area, which I definitely had wondered about driving through the town. The smell in question was the sugar beet processing! I had seen trucks of what I now know are sugar beets and the kind of sweet, earthy aroma in the air. We hiked the Sullivan's Knob Trail which was a quick easy hike, while the Upper Layout Creek Trail was tough! You can technically drive a bit on the dirt road for the latter, but you definitely need a high clearance vehicle because there are deep ruts. We also saw some of the wild Pryor Mountain Wild Horses on the side of the rod while driving, so drive slowly!

Close to town, easy to find and park at the trailhead. The trail is very steep for the first half…read moremile or so as you head to the top of the Rimrocks, but once you're up, it's all flat and some gorgeous scenery. There are two different loops you can take at the top, and it you do both, the total distance is 3 miles round-trip. The trail is easy to find and follow, great for novice hikers and kids as long as you have the endurance to get to the top. Take a picnic to the top! Lots of great spots to see below to town and out to the mountains. Some shaded areas too. Dogs on leashes are permitted. I did not see any restrooms, or picnic tables. There is also a disc golf course here too; I don't know anything about disc golf, but some of the baskets were in very challenging spots!

This is a wonderful trail just minutes outside of town. First part of the journey is straight up…read morebut well worth Klein. Once you get on the plateau it's a very easy walk from there back to the bottom. Some incredible views with a very nice breeze blowing. It was 100° when we went but still very pleasant due to the low humidity and the cost of breeze. Not a busy trail, we only encountered a few people when we were there. Be careful with small children because there are many drop off points. We really enjoyed it.
