This office is filled with very talented, smart physicians, nurses and other specialists. They are…read moremore or less, because of the research they do and have access to, on the cutting edge of cardiac medicine. The main issue that makes this department a less than stellar experience is customer service. When you call the staff here you're far more likely to get an answering service that can't help you, instead of an advice line that can give patients something they need quickly. In short, this massively funded, state of the art center is sometimes woefully bad with customers. It takes doctors or the people who help them several days to get back to you if you call or leave an email -- and that wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that you're talking about your heart here. This office very strongly needs to be more responsive to people who are having heart issues and to long-time patients who expect advice from someone knowledgeable without having to fight to speak to someone. Heart issues are often closely tied with anxiety. This office needs to be more responsive to people suffering from anxiety so their heart problems can get better more quickly. So, while overall I trust that the knowledgeable doctors and staff here are giving me sound advice and treatment, I often don't get the impression they actually care about the people who come to see them, because they are spread so thin.

This is difficult to write…read more The woman answering the calls this afternoon for appointments (2/3/2026) should be fired and never allowed to work in healthcare. I called this morning to schedule a screening given my family medical history. The person in the morning said I was "high risk" but needed a referral. Since I don't currently have a primary care physician they said I could go to an urgent care and ask for the referral. I went to a UCSF urgent care facility and they identified additional reasons why I was high risk and sent the referral over. Urgent care seemed genuinely concerned for me. I called this center up to schedule the screening now that I had the referral. Unfortunately the woman I spoke to this afternoon didn't appear to take the referral seriously and proceeded to give me a hard time. She put me on hold for a while and came back saying she wouldn't schedule an appointment for the cardiologist or for a screening, but instead a video consultation 2 months from now. Two months is a long time. I mentioned the person in the morning at their center saying I was "high risk" and the urgent care also saying I was "high risk." Her response was that if I was high risk, I would be in the emergency room right now. If this person only knew what happened to my family member. I was shocked and speechless. The memories... I mustered, "this is really bad, I regret calling you" and hung up. She should be fired and never allowed to work in healthcare.
