I can't say that I go to Fabricville often, but I certainly will not be going back to this one if I…read morecan help it! Luckily I was able to find the fabric I was looking for, but when I went to get it measured, the person helping me couldn't help herself from joking around with her colleagues very loudly about how horrible the previous customer was. Pretty unprofessional. Once I made it to the cash, I waited patiently while the cashier served an elderly woman. The cashier was taking her time to explain something to her, which I understand. She even left her cash register to go to the back of the store to get another product for her. This was nice of her, but she definitely didn't care to get back to the register in a hurry. At this point I was already waiting for a good 7 - 8 minutes with no acknowledgement from the cashier at all. When she finally did saunter back to the register, she continued to talk with the woman for a good 5 minutes at which point I looked at her and said that I was a little rushed for time. She just shrugged and gave me the "I don't care" look. The customer then apologized to me for taking so long to which the cashier said "this is the normal amount of time, it's fine". She could have at least acknowledged that I was waiting there for 10 minutes, thank me for my patience, but instead she made me feel like I should just be grateful that she would have eventually served me. Terrible customer service, no wonder there are hardly any Fabricvilles left in this city.

I have been going to this hardware store since I was a child in the 80's and it was still called…read more"Pascals Hardware", and the supermarket across the street was still a "Steinbergs Grocery". Although it has up-scaled a great deal, going from an average neighborhood hardware, to upscale specialty paint/hardware/housewares and gifts it still has the same neighborhood feel and even some of the same staff. Wilder, who works behind the paint counter in the basement, where most of the "serious" hardware is located, has been there ever since I can remember, and always provides one of the best customer service experiences available. He knows his stuff, and is always happy to help. Upstairs, where the gifts and housewares are found, is home to what I can only describe as *the* best selection of gifts for hard to shop for hipsters and grandparents ever... It has to be seen to be believed. If your looking for some unique gifts, specialty hardware, or are just tired of the so-so service at other big box hardwares, try Hogg out...

This more of a hardware store/boutique. I was recently looking for a meatloaf pan with a removable…read moreinsert, so you can lift the meatloaf out of all the oil and fat that inevitably comes out once it's finished cooking ( if you've ever made meatloaf at home, you know exactly what I'm talking about). Anyway it seems Montreal doesn't have a lot of places that sells that but saw online that Hogg hardware does since it's part of the Home Hardware group. Went in, ordered it, got a call 2 days later to pick and it wasn't expensive at all. The guys are also really nice but while I was waiting around I saw a ton of cool stuff for the home including soy candles, funky door handles and coat hooks, and stuff you'll never see at Home Depot. I used to buy soy candles at Winners (since soy doesn't produce soot and burns cleanly), but increasingly they don't carry them anymore and instead have "hand-poured" candles ( what the hell is that supposed to mean if it doesn't change the fact that it produces soot?) but now at least I can get some here at a reasonable price. There's a reason why it's located in Westmount and also Nun's Island, it's definitely more bourgeoisie and less blue-collar.
