Two winters past, a stout artisan-knight, bearer of craft-relics worth more than five-and-twenty thousand pieces of gleaming gold, sought refuge at their iron gates. The court--a fierce sisterhood of ladies alone, stern wardens who bar the portcullis at the fifth hour's chime with neither mercy nor delay--greeted him with tongues sweet as poisoned honey. "By our sacred troth!" they vowed in solemn council. "Thy hoard shall be warded by iron and spell--not only within thy humble renters abode, but e'en upon the field of battle itself, whilst thou wieldest them in paid mercenary labors and commercial strife, on the job or off! Schedule them upon the Personal Property rolls of a simple renters shield, pay tribute thrice the serf's due, and no thief, fire, nor calamity shall touch thy treasures!" Trusting their gilded oaths--for no parchment of venomous exclusions was thrust into his grasp--the knight knelt in fealty and poured rivers of gold for two grim years, believing his livelihood safe from ruin. But when at last he dared demand proof of the promised ward, the court erupted in mocking fury: "Business pursuit? Professional peril? We uttered no such vow! Thy policy hath ever borne the ancient curse excluding commerce--the faded inks scream it aloud!" The mountains of tribute paid for "Scheduled Property" vanished into the bottomless vaults of the keep, granting nothing save a cruel illusion, a phantom shield that crumbled at the first breath of truth. This tale grows blacker still: - Once, at the precise stroke of closing, a lady "by mishap" severed the speaking-cord mid-plea, slamming the gates without recall. - Lately, when the knight recited their own vows, another sentinel of the quill cast down the drawbridge in fury and decreed: "Our internal inquest findeth no fault! Signed parchments bind thee to personal coverage alone! No claim was filed, thus no wrong existeth! Recordings dissolved into 'carrier retention limits'! The matter is closed--begone!" Yea, verily--Their arrogant "comprehensive reviews," their conveniently dissolved recordings, and their stone-walled denials shall rot and crumble into dust when the full, inexorable might of the host descendeth like a plague of judgment to expose the truth. Let this be a warning, fellow pilgrims, artisans, and merchants guarding precious treasures of gold: Avoid these iron gates as ye would the jaws of the abyss! These are no true wardens, but smiling who lure with honeyed lies, drain thy gold, then deny all with haughty scrolls and slammed gates. Demand every promise carved in stone and sealed in blood. Seek honorable commercial or inland marine bastions ere ye too be lure with honeyed assurances that proved false. This ludicrous chronicle deserveth scarce **one solitary star**--and that grudgingly, for the boundless mirth it granteth as the ladies' pompous fortress crumbles under the weight of their own deceit.
