Renascence is an excellent school both academically and for language immersion. My son attended Renascence International from preschool to 6th grade (ages 4 through 12). Based on the quality of the instruction, my son excelled academically and is tri-literate in Chinese, Spanish, and English. My son speaks Mandarin at home with his mom and attained the global seal of literacy for Spanish. The only reason my son no longer attends Renascence is that he wanted to experience a school with a larger class size and more students. (He now goes to a school with over 100 classmates just in his grade.) Based on the instruction my son received at Renascence International, my son was one of 25 out of 500 students out of district that tested and were accepted at Oxford Academy in the 7th grade. The quality of the teachers and curriculum are excellent and without this instruction, my son would never have made it into a public school that is rated #1 in California and #19 in the United States. Currently, he is taking advanced math and is the only non-hispanic child taking advanced Spanish in his grade. Worst school ever, in my opinion! We have been attending for 5 years, since our daughter was 18 months old. She still cannot count to 20 in Spanish. They put more emphasis on Chinese. She kept repeating the Spanish curriculum over and over, year after year, counting and colors. She never got beyond that in Spanish. Then they discontinued Spanish in Kindergarten and offered it only two days a week for an hour, optionally. Her English teacher was mean and would yell at the kids. Also, at the end of the year in preschool, she was learning to "smush" letters in her English class. When she started again in the Fall for Kindergarten, they expected her to read 50 wpm, without teaching her to read. They told us to buy the books and have her read at home. We spent $1,000 on those reading books and had to catch her up. Finally, by the end of the kindergarten year, we're caught up, with hundreds of hours of homeschooling to catch her up. The English teacher quit teaching her English class mid-year and they had to have a new teacher come in and re-assess the students and start all over again. Their homework is intense. Parents are refusing playdates on the weekends because they have to study for assessments or spelling tests or do homework. They do spelling tests every week. They do "assessments" all the time to help the school look good. The pressure on the little kids is terrible. If you don't do the optional homework, your student will be getting C's or D's, because although it's optional, they do matter, but they don't tell you until it's too late. If you want a homeschooling program, this is it, because Parents end up doing TONS of the work at home with your child. The parents are getting tutors in preschool & kindergarten to keep up. And although you're paying an exorbitant amount for tuition, their PTO is always raising money for the school and they expect parents to help build their new playground in their new building, and the school expects the parents to do a LOT of the teaching and get extra tutors to keep up with their "advanced" program. It's a lot of extra money for the gala, fundraisers, all the special dress-up days, etc. A lot of the teachers have left the school to go teach at the better school across the street. And now another trilingual school has moved down the street, which is also a better trilingual program. Lots of parents are leaving too. The classes get smaller and smaller as the years go on so that by 6th grade, only 4 students are left in the classes. They extended the school to HS, but then there's only 2-4 students in those classes and they make them go to the community college to get their classes. And when the students leave RSI and go to another school, they're 2 years BEHIND in math because they learned it in Mandarin, and not English, so they have to catch up at other schools. They are a CLOSED school and they don't let parents on campus. They lock the doors and they have the security guard follow you around so you feel uncomfortable if you get out of your car to escort your preschool student to class. They don't return calls quickly, or emails. It's really hard to get a parent-teacher conference scheduled. Their online portal is rarely updated with assignments or teacher comments or their calendar, then they tell you to go online to get the information, but the information is never current and it's not consistent amongst the different teachers. Two families got kicked out of school for requesting that their kids be protected from violence and bullying, while the bullies are being promoted with pictures on their social media pages, and the school refused to help protect the innocent kids. They, instead, criminalized the victims. read more

My kids have been coming here for years and have created a wonderful community of friends (who we consider family). I am constantly amazed at how resilient they are in any situation that is thrown at them as well as how motivated they are to do the right thing. My daughter started at age 3 in RSI's preschool program and it was such an incredible experience for her. She has had the most loving and caring teachers who provided such a warm and fun environment that made it easy on us for that transition into preschool. We were impressed with how much she learned in the first two years and it made us feel good that she felt so comfortable and happy there. They provide a perfect balance of learning, play and all around fun. The preschool director Mr Gonzales is very friendly, great with the kids and very helpful. This is our 5th year at RSI - The school is a special place for my child because they are learning 3 languages, leadership, and kindness along with advanced academics in a community atmosphere where they learn about being a good citizen, and each grade participates in community service. With this model it's also provided a great chance for our whole family to be involved through volunteering - I love that everyone on the campus knows my child and is such an encouragement to their growth as a whole person! The teachers and staff have risen to whatever challenges have been thrown at them and for example, during Covid even on zoom learning they kept my child engaged, got creative in their approach , and they learned how to read during that time! My daughter started RSI at age 4 and she will be 9 soon. My son was age 2 and will be 7 soon. The last 5 years of our experience with RSI can not be simply put into words. In terms of advanced academics, there is no other place that can surpass their curriculum. I can confidently say so as I have toured many other immersion schools in the surrounding area. However, it's more than academics my children are exposed to. Teachers and the staff knows and understands my kids on a personal level and has nurtured them to grow as compassionate leaders who has grit and optimistic mindset. This school is the BEST advanced language immersion school in the area. I have done my research and toured all the schools. I found this school to be the best fit for my children. We are in the midst of our 7th year at this school, and we couldn't be happier!! Our children have grown in leaps and bounds at this school. This is all thanks to the administrators who are committed to shape the school to be the best it can be. This is a relatively new school, which is always improving in the most positive way each year. As new as this school is, it is the oldest and most established language immersion school in Orange County. The teachers at this school are fabulous. They are committed to excellence in education and they genuinely care about the children. We feel that our children are in safe dedicated hands. Both of our children have had the same teachers for the past few years. They enjoy a calm learning environment with a good community of supporting peers, parents, and teachers. My children's grandfather (who was raised in China) has commented numerous times how amazed he is with the depth of the language taught in Chinese. He said the information taught is competitive for the same grade level in China. We are impressed and pleased!! My child reads, writes, and speaks exceedingly well in Chinese. I am amazed at the pages of Chinese that they read for Math, Science, and Chinese literature. We do not speak Mandarin at home, so my children are only able to learn the language at school. I can write with confidence that they are flourishing in the language!! The fact that my children learn Spanish at this school is a bonus. I actually came to this school for the advanced academics and Chinese immersion. Being in education myself, I am quite particular with the curriculum. This curriculum works! Each year lays a solid foundation. The quarterly assessments allow time for review of material learned during that particular quarter. This is the time when the information is committed to long term memory. The review provides necessary time for my children to assimilate and truly learn the information. My children have light (if any) homework. They are only given homework if their teacher feels they need further reinforcement of concepts learned. Our son (7yo) has been attending RSIOC for 4 years and we just started our daughter (2yo) a couple weeks ago. I can't begin to tell you what a blessing this school has been for our family. The education and community are unbeatable. Not only do you have a close relationship with the teachers, but the administration as well. Our son is flourishing in his education and social development with the help of wonderful supportive teachers and staff. We are so proud and happy to be a part of this community. First off, the school website makes me think of a cheap car sale man's talking. We still toured the school anyway as there is only 4 choices for Mandarin immersion schools in the area. We are both so disappointed by the high student/teacher ratio, the high tuition fee, and most of all, the goal-driven philosophy of the school. It seems to me the school is all about score, achievements (kids can speak 3 languages, do math of higher grade's levels, high SAT score . . .). The children don't seem engaged on the day we toured. I can't blame them, all the classes seem so boring to me. To be fair we were there for 5' each class. Regardless, not the school for our family. The director seems to treat the school as a business he is running rather than something he cares deeply about. At least it is my take after the touring date. read more

Our summer camp experience summed up in email correspondences. If you want to send your kids there to get beaten and scratched up by a certain kid you can. But if your kid retaliate then you can get kicked out. Emails are pasted and names removed. My email to the camp director: Hello, I am emailing you in regard to a kid name A.  Today I saw a scratch on my son's forehead and he also told me that kid knocked him on the ground. This is the second time this week this week and I would like to know what the school's approach is.  My kid and his aide told me earlier this week that A hit him multiple times and got sent to the office. I was surprised that you could not get your fact straight when you told me my son initiated the fight. My son is not violent but he does have less than average impulse control and situations like this are very troubling for him.  I would like to work with the school regarding this issue and hope that we can resolve this sooner rather than later. I was able to get more information about what happened today and it sounds like L's friend was definitely behaving in a manner we do not condone. We do have a  process for addressing behavior that doesn't meet our expectation for kindness, safety, and responsibility. It is a somewhat individualized discipline process that takes into account the child's age and language abilities among other things. For this student, since he is only 5 and has difficulty speaking and understanding English, we continue to keep a close eye on him and work to guide his behavior as barriers arise. At the same time, some of this is also a developmental process for the younger students who are beginning to navigate social dynamics. This particular student is 5 years old and can speak and understand little English. Keeping this in mind, it may be helpful for L to consider this as an opportunity to learn what he likes and doesn't like when it comes to friends and how people treat him and what he can do to have some control in the situation. He may even find it helpful to spend more time with peers of similar age. I realize we have a smaller group of students during the summer but I'd be happy to introduce him to some of the older students. Does this make sense? This school is phenomenal. My kids have been at this school since they first opened. I have a 10th grader and middle schooler. Besides the rigorous academics and languages, the teachers & staff are the reasons we stay. RSI is a very loving environment - full of wonderful families and good kids. RSI has plenty of opportunities for parents to stay involved, which is key. They offer great enrichment after-school classes, such as coding lessons, legos/robotics, cultural dancing, music instruments, and a variety of sports and outdoor fun. The school plans overseas trips where kids can be fully immersed in the culture and language. They typically pick a Spanish or Chinese speaking country and are nicely organized. This year my high schooler (and many other HS/middle schoolers) received 2 global seals of fluency - in Spanish and Chinese and the HS will get to study in Spain for a month while they complete their dual enrollment college classes. The class sizes are pretty small so that teachers can give students the individualized attention to help them stay ahead, which is great bc they are learning very deep advanced material. If any students need extra help in the subject the school will offer tutoring. My kids attended an Irvine public school for a year and felt the material was not challenging enough, including the advanced math classes, so we decided to come back to keep them challenged. Overall, we are extremely happy at RSI and my kids are thriving. read more

This school has been amazing to my 2 kids. My son has been in this school since pre-K and my daughter joined a couple of years ago. Both kids are reading, writing, and excelling compared to peers in the same age groups (in 3 languages). I was skeptical at first but seeing what they have accomplished in the last 3-4 years has been nothing short of a miracle. The staff goes above and beyond to help foster a positive learning environment and the Director of the school is one of the most caring individuals I have met. Not only are so they identify issues/patterns early but they also go a long way to help individualize attention that is needed for my kids. RSI has truly opened my children to a "growth mindset" where they teach them to think critically and challenge them to their fullest. My daughter has been attending this school for a year now, and I have to say that I am really impressed in numerous ways. One of the primary focuses of the school is educating the children in both Mandarin and Spanish outside of just English. However, the aspects that really shine about the school are the dedication and caring of the teachers and administration. The truth is a school is only as good as the people who run it. This school is absolutely exceeding all my expectations - and I was expecting quite a bit! I had researched RSI's challenging academic curriculum and tri-language component and I knew that was what I wanted. But in addition to all that is an amazing, totally dedicated, engaged, expert teaching staff who are 100% committed to the success of our kids every day. The academic support hour that is included each day gives our whole family freedom from the stress of homework. I feel like our kids are learning twice as much every day without the evening homework stress we used to experience in other private schools. The RSI system makes SO much sense! And our kids are thriving! Our youngest one, age 5, had no Chinese language background before starting Kindergarten this year, and after ONE month of school she could recite no less than four Chinese poems, name and match characters to ten different fruits, name a bunch of body parts, and is doing addition in Chinese. By the end of this year she will be able to speak and recognize over 350 characters, and if I weren't witnessing it with my own eyes , I might not have believed it. She has so much fun trying out her new language on our dog and begging us to videotape her saying her poems! I was hesitant about putting our older daughter in the program because the school is still young and there aren't as many older kids, but she too is thriving. Our older daughter is twelve and has had four years of weekend Chinese at the Irvine Chinese School, but now she is totally immersed in it every day and is making such speedy progress. Her success I credit directly to the school director, Carrie Mizera, who has worked hand-in-hand with me to make sure that our older daughter's classes fit perfectly with her ability and experience in math, science, Chinese, English, and History. Carrie has taken the time to create a truly custom curriculum for her and the results are already incredible. I only wish I had moved our older daughter to this school sooner. There's so much more I could write, but the bottom line is that our family just loves this school and we're so glad that the upper levels are opening up so that we can stay here all the way through high school! read more

I am astounded with this school. My daughter has been enrolled since September (when they opened) and I am amazed at how much she has learned. This is a place for advanced academics with a curriculum unsurpassed. Their philosophy uses 3 languages (Mandarin Chinese, Spanish & English) to constantly introduce new material at a fast pace. My daughter is having fun - and I am thrilled with her ability to present herself confidently in more social situations. My daughter in preschool has now completed public school kindergarten curriculum - she is reading, coloring, music art, etc. - but they are teaching math, science and while incorporating life skills through strong values brought to the front.
