Patriot Moving Systems caught my attention so I called them to get more information. I talked with Dennis to get answers to my questions. He told me they are full service, meaning they will pack as well as move your household contents. You also have the option to do your own packing. One place I called pretty much only loads and moves your stuff so you have to do your own packing. Patriot sells boxes and packing materials but also suggested Home Depot or Lowe's but said he actually prefers and recommends getting these from U-Haul as he thinks theirs are better quality and sturdier. What I like is the way Dennis explained our options without overly promoting materials through Patriot. He also explained the rates for their services. Basically it is an hourly rate per person plus a trip charge and cost of the truck usage. He came out and walked through or house and then was able to give us a rough estimate of the number of hours we would likely need. We planned to use a staging company so we needed to pack some things to thin out certain areas like closets and kitchen countertops. So we arranged for Patriot to send out three people to box and move things into the garage for three hours and that was a big help. They were focused and hard working guys who went practically non-stop for the time scheduled. Whenever there was a question about packing certain items they asked about it. I could tell that they all knew what they were doing, their experience showed and they treated our things as if they were theirs. Delicate items were wrapped well for protection. Our move is currently on hold as we continue to pursue selling our home but Dennis checks in with me periodically to see how things are going. I will update this review once we actually complete our move but we know who we trust with packing and moving our property.

A thorough review of the contents to be moved versus the cursory review by competitors. 2.A competitive price. 3.Our things were moved in dedicated trucks and not mixed in with other people's stuff. 4. Honestly about damages: a table literally fell apart during packing and the crew pointed it out to me rather than concealing it. 5. No high pressure sales tactics. 6. The guys were patient with my wife repositioning furniture at the destination. 7. Nothing was broken although we had quite a few minor dings in furniture. 8. Crews showed up on time at both ends of the trip. Negatives include: 1.No formal acknowledgement of payment. They were almost offensively anxious to get the final payment even though the third and final truck had not arrived. 2. Loss of focus at the end of the day: We did a walkthrough at the end of the loading process. Every time we found something that needed to go into the truck, the guy leading the walkthrough took it out, chatted with the guys on the truck, and then we would lose our place. This resulted in a few things being left behind. At delivery, the guys took down a door to get furniture into the basement but never put it up again. They also left a moving blanket and personal items belonging to one of the guys. The items were eventually restored to their owner. 3. Not mentioning messes or problems. After the truck left I found that one of our toilets was plugged with toilet paper, paper towels, and human waste from someone that was apparently ill. Fortunately, I found the problem and was able to unplug the toilet and clean things up so this mess was not left for our cleaning crew. I think I would have responded calmly to this if I had been told about it. I can appreciate that it would have been embarrassing to report this to me. I'm human too.

The broke numerous items, one of the four movers quit midway through the first day and wasn't replaced, adding to the total hours. Two of them were on their first day and had no idea how to pack. A single saucer had two feet of paper wrapping. They added things from different rooms to boxes, so a toaster in the box with the bedding, etc. They broke two things, gouged the stairs, stole a bottle of pain killers, asked if they could have one of our personal items, and left a bunch of stuff at the old house we had to hire a separate hauler to move. Admittedly they came a bit later than I had anticipated but they had to drive from here to Chicago so I don't hold traffic and all that against them. And once they showed up, man they killed it. They took inventory of all the boxes and the furniture, marking it down carefully. Then they hauled all the boxes (which were heavy as all get out thanks to my book and cd addiction) with ease to and from the space to the truck. Also the furniture was handled carefully and packed expertly into the truck as well. I felt 100% confident that they were taking care of my belongings. They got back to Michigan pretty late so instead of unloading that night they came to the storage space near my house in the morning. Again, it was a little later than anticipated but my mom met them at the space and another set of movers quickly piled everything from the truck in, again taking care and not harming any of the items. I haven't unpacked those boxes yet to see if any of the items got broken in the move but nothing was flipped in the truck and everything was stacked as it had been when they first put it in so I don't anticipate finding anything ruined. The furniture came out just fine and everything is neatly stacked in the storage space for me to move once I end up in a more permanent living situation. It isn't cheap hiring movers across a couple of state lines but the ease of this move and the fact that I got up the next morning without pain or exhaustion made the cost well worth it. It also helps that I finally have all my stuff with me in the same state. I've missed you, Freaks and Geeks DVD set!

A very ENTITLED estimator came to MY HOME for an estimation in person which lead to a disastrously experience with only ONE truck on the date agreed. 2. A Un uniformed and UNEXPERIENCED crew came to my home with ONE truck, they never offer a second trip or another truck on the same day. 3. HAD to have the second part of my move 4 DAYS AFTER original date, which had to handle by myself since hubby had to travel for work. 4. HAD to Pay an EXTRA week of rent due to THEIR delay to finish my move and I am talking about a local move. 5. ONE of the first crew guy was using a Vpen on the job which can lead me to wonder what kind of thing was he smoking on the job and my 10 y/o was in the house with us on the day of the move. 6. That first crew could NOT get my couch on the basement, and because they were NOT experienced they did NOT take off the feet of the couch neither take the door off causing lots of damage on wall, door frame and my couch. She on "behalf" of the owner of the company offered as a "compensation" EXPERIENCED workers which they WERE (which leads me to wonder what kind of people we were sent the first time) and an "EXTRA" guy so could be "cheaper for me" and faster. I promise there was NO WAY the second half of my move could be done correctly with only 2 people. That though was unkind and NOT generous neither to me or their own crew, which one of them was sick, they made him lift furniture being sick therefore I assume since they DO NOT look after their own people even LESS for their customers which IS CLEAR to me NOW. 10. We paid half of the amount estimated the first half of the move AND we paid the other half on the second move. I make this clear because there was NEVER a compensation neither a discount with all this ordeal with this company. 11. Had to email the owners twice with pictures to get an email 2 weeks ago with an "apology" and the "intention" to INVeStIGATE what went wrong, so STILL my words and pics were NOT enough to take immediate action on my case. 12.
