Renew Physical Therapy was the single most important factor in recovering from my spinal fracture. I was a very active person, (running, yoga, basketball, etc.) until I fractured my spine this past June. After a whole month of not being allowed to move, I was recommended to physical therapy for my first time with Steve at Renew, a name I had never heard of. I told them how nervous I was because I didn't know if my back was strong enough for it yet and if it would make things worse. Steve understood completely and took great care and caution when building up a daily regimen for me. I was so happy to finally be moving again that I looked forward to our sessions every time I came in. The atmosphere is very relaxed but professional, and you always feel like you're being looked after. Another big concern was that I only had 8 weeks to get myself strong enough because I was planning to study abroad at the end of August in Spain. Needless to say, everyday that I was in their with them that is all that we would talk about, and the crew helped get me so excited for my upcoming adventure... ...I am currently living and studying in Spain just like I had always dreamed. I am running 7 miles a day along the beach and doing pilates, all with a very strong back. None of this would have been possible without Steve and the rest of Renew Physical Therapy. I got a referral to Renew PT from my primary physician due to a severe tennis-elbow (that was already a good sign as he is very picky around referrals). I was in pretty rough shape when I showed up for my first appointment and left quite discouraged. Don't get me wrong - Steve did an amazing job diagnosing the injury, walking me through the cause, tendons involved, etc. as well as the recovery/treatment process and was super encouraging. But like most men I expected instant recovery ;-) But Steve was amazing at setting expectations and being encouraging. I subsequently had 9 or 10 appointments with Steve and his crew, and I am now 100% back to normal and a very happy camper. It is almost a miracle compared to where I was 2 months ago. The environment at Renew is laid-back and extremely welcoming (both Steve and the rest of the staff) and I always felt 100% comfortable and at ease. Steve does an amazing job at being supportive and working with his patients and encouraging them to follow the exercise program he puts together. They are super-flexible wrt. scheduling and can be reached via phone and e-mail (the latter was helpful to me due to a hectic travel schedule). ​This is my first time to write a review on Yelp or any review. I was directed to renew at mill valley by my PCP. This is my second time at Renew. This time, I was assigned to Devin Ehrlichman, and it has been about a month since my last session with him. I​ send him my heartfelt appreciation for treating me. From the beginning, he "owned" my situation. I was able to tell/feel that he was not just flipping through his books on physical therapy in his mind and finding similar cases, and treating me with the way the book says. He observed, he listened, he examined, and he owned my situation, then he treated me. At one time, I almost saw (with my mind eyes) that he was looking through my muscle and yes, fats :) and looking at my skeleton. It was as if he was talking to my skeleton behind my back:). Then he explained to me what would be the core problem and treated me accordingly. Not only that, the movements/exercises/ tools to practice at home that he suggested were so thorough and have been working wonders, after one month since my last session !! As I mentioned, this is my second time at Renew at mill valley. The place is nice, clean, with good therapists I am sure, but there are a lot of similar places in the bay area/Marin. I've been seeing Steve at Renew Physical Therapy since July of 2013 and they are awesome! Steve and his whole staff are kind, courteous, and supportive. I tore my tendon patellar and had surgery a year and half ago but I still couldn't get better. So I decided to go back to PT and get the help I needed. My schedule is always fluctuating so it was nice to have the staff be so flexible. They confirmed every appointment and made sure I was following my goals. When I moved to the city from Marin county, I had to temporarily see another PT. Big mistake! I didn't realize how good my Physical Therapist Steve was until I didn't have there to support my rehabilitattion. I've been doing PT for this particular knee for almost 2 years now and Steve is the best PT I've ever had. I need a PT that encourages me, not belittles me. I was referred to Renew Physical Therapy by my orthopedic physician for persistent pain in the thigh area of my right leg. it was unknown whether the pain was emanating from my back or the thigh itself. Imee treated me on a consistent basis for four months. She worked on both my back and the thigh directly. In addition to her treatment of me at Renew she prescribed exercises for me to do daily at home. From the beginning of her treatment and advice I felt consistent relief of the pain, finally culminating in a pain free condition. :) Imee is a very special person--as a physical therapist and otherwise. I originally chose Renew Physical Therapy last year because it's only a 15-minute walk from my house. But after Steve helped me heal from tennis elbow last spring, I visted Renew again in December after a neck surgery. What I like most about Renew is that it is a very small business with great attention to detail. There are only two therapists, Steve and Imee, both of whom are extremely knowledgable. The only other employee is the receptionist, Carly, who is always a delight. At other physical therapy offices I've visited in the past, much of my time as a patient was spent with an assistant PT. In at least on place, I had to work with an assistant to an assistant. At Renew there are no assistants. You have your choice of two outanding therapists. Whether you choose Steve or Imee, you can be certain that he or she will devote the entire session to helping you recuperate from your injury or surgery. As long as Renew is in Mill Valley, I will never go to any other physical therapy office. read more

A friend referred me to Renew PT; and I was connected with Cassie May DPT. I was diagnosed with a condition that left me in acute pain in my joints, sinews and muscles. I had serious trouble walking. Cassie's bio stated she is an expert in the pelvic region; and right from the start she performed differential diagnosis that was thorough. Cassie was familiar with my condition; she perfectly assigned an exercise plan that fit my needs. And as I progressed. She tailored my plan according to the changes in my condition. She also discussed specific things I could do that would further help, not aggravate my condition, like moving slowly and gently. She has a very positive attitude and cheerleads you through the challenges. After six weeks I have shown great improvement in my pain and my walking. I had a total knee replacement four months ago. I researched physical therapy places thoroughly and picked Renew in Mill Valley based on other great Yelp reviews. I am so grateful that I did! I saw Dea there and I can't recommend her highly enough. She was so caring, thorough and professional in the exercise plan she worked out for me. My hamstrings had gotten very tight after the surgery and she massaged them each time to help them stretch out. The exercises she gave me helped me strengthen different areas of my body all relating to the recovery of my knee. She is very experienced and knowledgeable. I enjoyed practicing my new exercises with other Renew staff members after my sessions with Dea. All of them were patient and caring as were the people at the front desk. My knee is feeling great! I've been with Renew PT for 18 months since being run over by a truck and the resulting 3 surgeries to my leg/ankle. I have had ongoing back issues for years, and this last winter it culminated in not being able to lie down, stand up or walk. I was in a world of hurt!!! I tried all the alternative resources that had worked for me in the past but was unsuccessful. I gave in, went to a traditional western doctor, had an MRI and had cortisone injections at the nerve points in my spine. I started about a month ago with Dea and already it's made a significant difference in my overall physical condition. I came with a few specific issues, but her approach was much more holistic. After asking a lot of questions, she offered progressively a series of exercises that clearly were understanding of how all these problems were related. There was nothing about her prescriptions that was formulaic, rather I felt they were specifically targeting my particular issues as well as my abilities to engage in my own rehabilitation. I have been in and out of PT for the last 10+ years. As a former athlete, I come with a long string of previous injuries, including a few ACL tears and repairs. Steve is the best! I badly sprained my ankle from a rock climbing fall and was on crutches for over a week. I came to Steve shortly after and gave him only 6 weeks to get me back to 100% for my annual ice climbing trip. Steve owns Renew PT and is the best in his field. I have been to several physical therapists and chiropractors for various running injuries.
