The remediation professionals were quick, helpful, and knowledgeable. Because of this positive first impression, we decided to continue working with them to rebuild our basement (new floors, dry wall, etc.). Every step of the process since then has been like pulling teeth. The lead contractor is completely absent, he doesn't return calls for over a week at a time and the only reason we ever hear from him is when we call the main company line and they prod him to return our calls. We go a weeks at a time between steps forward. We've never been given a timeline or any sense of how long this will continue. It's been 3 MONTHS since our basement flooded. The remediation took less than a week, but we're still waiting to make ANY progress with the rebuild team. I would never recommend this company to anyone for rebuild services. They have been unhelpful, unprofessional, and overall a huge disappointment. Edit for more context: In all honestly, I originally typed out this review ever a year ago. I didn't submit it to yelp because I worried I was too close to the experience to fairly rate the services. After a year of reflection, I stand by my words above. As soon as we had the furniture moved after the heavy rains of July 16-17 got into our basement, I called AFC Cleaning & Restoration (Thursday) and told them I needed to have the water removed from my carpet. They had good online reviews. Robert arrived at 6:00 PM and started talking about tearing out the walls and carpet. I told him I wanted to try to save the carpet, as it wasn't that old and that the water came in through the window, not the foundation. He agreed to do that and then brought in fans and a dehumidifier. "Aren't you going to remove the water?" I asked. He said he was just going to set up fans and would be back. He assured me that if there was air movement, no mold would grow for three days. I texted him on Friday at 1:37 asking when he was going to work in our basement. I did not hear back from him until 10:36 that night when he said he could arrive between 10:30 and 11:30 on Saturday morning, would I be available. I did not see the text until 9:30 the next morning. "Yes, please" was my answer. A young couple showed up in a rusty pickup truck and said they were here to take out the pad. They had nothing to extract the water. They turned the fans to the inside of the room rather than to the edge where the carpet was the wettest. I texted Robert at 11:48 and told him the pad was out, but they put the wet carpet up against the baseboards and it was beginning to smell. I didn't hear a thing from him that day. I set the edge of the carpet up on plastic bins to get it off the baseboards and help get more air to it. On Sunday at 3:00 PM he texted me and asked me if he could swing by and take readings. Not expecting to hear from him on Sunday, I didn't see the message until 5:00 and responded "readings of what"? His response at 6:48 was "It's okay. Are you available tomorrow?" My response was "Yes, I need a time, though. I need someone to clean and sanitize the carpet and get it dried. It now smells. Readings of what?" I could have told him it was still very wet. His response "I'm not done drying it yet. It will start to smell better as it dries. I will also spray an anti Microbial spray." "So, you are never planning to vacuum the water out of the carpet - the one thing I asked for on Thursday?" His response "It gets cleaned after it's dry and the pad is replaced." Robert came by on Monday, but the carpet was still wet. He returned on Tuesday. The carpet was dry, five full days after the flood, and he sprayed microbial spray. When he was done, I mentioned that it still smelled and that I was unhappy he never extracted the water. "Oh, now that I'm done, you complain" was his reply. I was explaining that I had asked for the water to be extracted on Thursday and continuously through the process, but he just talked louder over me when I spoke. I told him that if he knew he couldn't extract the water, he should have told me at the beginning. He said it would have taken his crew longer to extract the water than using fans (no doubt). I reiterated that if they didn't have the crew available, they should have advised me in the first instance. He was frustrating me, so I told him to leave. I called the office the next morning and without identifying myself asked what they would do if someone had water in their finished basement that came up around their shoes. She proudly stated that they would first extract the water from the carpet. I said "Good, and how do you do that?" She explained that they have big machines that extract the water and remove it. I told her my name and that they did not do that in my basement. She agreed to send the manager to determine if the work done at my house was representative of their work product. A nice enough man named Joe came by and told me he didn't smell anything but carpet glue that had been made wet by the flood. On all other matters he agreed with me, but had no authority to do anything about it. He said he'd have the owner come by. The owner showed up and said all he smelled was acetate from the carpet. It was clear that his goal was to blame me. He said they didn't follow IICRC standards, because I asked them to try to save the carpet. I said, "So, you didn't follow your own standards, but you blame me?". He said "Yes". Yet, he didn't do what I asked him to do. I told him the young couple put the very wet carpet up against the baseboards and he said that wouldn't matter. I told him I asked for the water to be extracted several times, and he told me that using the fans was extracting the water. I disagreed. Not a single google search defines extracting water as using fans. Fans are the next step after extracting the water. I told him if he couldn't extract the water, they should have told me from the beginning, so I could have called someone else. He got up and left. What do they want for fans? $3000.

We had a pretty frustrating experience with AFC Cleaning and Restoration. We hired them to have our…read moreair ducts cleaned in our house. They charge per vent then spray an antimicrobial agent in the ducts after cleaning. The first tech that showed up to our house was 3 1/2 hours late and did not have all the tools to complete the job. Multiple vents were never even touched. He let us know that he was done with the job and my wife asked about the antimicrobial spray. He informed us that he did not have that machine on his truck and would have to come back at a later date. We also asked about the forgotten vents and he said that he would get those when he came back. I was told that I would not be charged for those vents. I had a conversation with the owner who was very apologetic and wanted to make it right. So I agreed to have them come back and finish the job. The second time they came out with two techs and were an hour late. They completed the rest of the job. Later I received an invoice for the entire job, including the vents we were not supposed to be charged for. Eventually I got the correct invoice and settled up with them. Overall just a headache of an experience.

It took several hours but one employee showed up late that evening. He explained that he could have a crew come out over night to start the cleanup. To keep from being charged "off hour" fees, I told him to hold off until the morning and he said they would be out at 8am. We asked for an estimate of how much the cleanup would cost. He stated it would be between $2000-$5000. I asked if he could be more precise. He said it was hard to say, but he estimated that it would be closer to the $2000 level. Workers didn't show up until around 5pm the next 2 days even after giving an 8am estimated start time. We asked 2 or 3 more times for an estimate on the cost. Each time, they repeated the $2000-$5000 range, but closer to the $2000. We called, and the office workers explained that the crew chief would be better to estimate it. After the 2 days of cleanup, they left their machines for a few more days and stopped by once a day to check their meters. I asked for the total bill and they still didn't know. I called 2 or 3 more times and was told they were still "working on" the bill. After 2 weeks, we received a bill of over $12,000. The bill and 330 pages of supporting documents arrived in an email. It took them more time to create the bill than they spent working in my house. How can that be?!?! How can they be that far off in their estimate? When I called and spoke to the management, they said I should have asked for an estimate first. We did. He said we shouldn't have asked the workers for an estimate. How were we to know that? If you send an employee out to my house, he is your representative. Unless he says otherwise, he is authorized to give estimates. ServPro manager says they won't change the bill.

Mr. Picard, who was doing the put back was the most unprofessional person I've had to deal with. We have a home about 40 miles east of Lee's Summit. Our home had some flood damage from heavy rains. We were calling flood companies in the middle of the night and finally got a hold of one. Certified restoration came out two days later to remove the water and cutaway the drywall and pull the carpet up. * Just mentioning we love out of town so we asked Jamie to keep us updated with everything*. She was awesome we received phone calls every other day she was giving us a breakdown and telling us where we could save money on the water mitigation. After that was finished we were out in contact with Mr. Picard. Mr. Picard from the start was lazy, we explained to him our situation and asked that we be updated every step of the was. The house is a rental property, and we weren't there to make sure the work is being done professionally and promptly. We had to contact Picard 5 times to even get a start date out of him. Then when he did he never fully had a straight answer as to why it was taking so long for our put back to start. I was told that he had several other jobs. Now, this is after two and a half months of already waiting. I would text him and ask when the next time you're foingnkit to the house. He never had an answer. He would never give me a straight answer and it he did it was always after the fact the I had to text him. This went of for months, I would text him again and ask when are you going back out to the house? Them he'd realomd with "oh yeah my guys are going out there tomorrow." I would then ask please update me when they're finished. He wouldn't my tenet would have to call me and let ms know. It got so bad that I had to call Clint his boss. The first time I called Clint and complained about Picard. He patched me through to Picard. I didn't wasn't to be patched through to Picard but I rolled with it. Thinking things would change. Things didn't change so after another month of playing phone tag and just simply asking to be kept in the loop. I was getting nothing. So I called Clint again. This time Clint stepped in and got a little more involved. The updates we coming but they were still horrible at best. Then comes the S***** workmanship. My tenet text and said they came out and that the dry wall looked like S***. Now my tenet doesn't do frame or drywall so if she knows it looks bad then it's bad. She sent the pics and it was something a three year old could have done better. I complained and they sent them back out. The second time they came back Out it was redone it still looked like s***. The third time after Clint called Picard did it look decent. The framing around a door was loss poor and other little things that a legitimate company would have not let slide. So after all this I called Clint and asked if there was a way they we could get some sort of discount. He said "with COVID and prices being hi for material, he could could do $150 off of a $10k job. I almost feel out of my chair. I told Clint that I wasn't happy that this job took 3 months longer that it should have. I wasn't happy with the quality of work Md I wasn't happy with Picard. I told him that the communication piece was horrible and that Jamie was amazing. LISTEN TO THIS HE LITERALLY SAID "It's because women are better communicators." I almost wrecked my car. I said a a man I'm a great communicator. It's not that hard in today's works to text updates and let people know what's going on. Actually we both agreed it literally easier. It was a sexist comment and an excuse from a boss to cover the sorry A$$ of his lazy put guy. I asked him if he we're to give the situation a grade that the grade he gives me I would give that grade to the insurance company when they followed up. He never gave me one because he knows the quality and over performance was s***. Using the excuse that your a small business is no excuse. Maybe better leadership and management from the top down would go a long way. If you can't handle the volume of work then don't take jobs you can't finish.

They were careful to be respectful of our home. They pulled all the water out of our carpets, stripped & disposed our carpet, and dried out the basement.
