2/5 the service for the security is terrible. My bag was too big and a young man told me that I have to throw my bag away or go to my car to leave it there. When I asked him if there were any other options he told me no and to just throw it away. I was not going to throw my bag away so I asked someone in the ticket stand if I could leave it with her. She was very nice and polite and explained what I had to do so much better than the man. After the whole bag situation we were going through security where the same man proceeded to yell at everyone to go into every single line. My friend and I went in one line and he then yelled at us to not go into that line bc it's only if you don't have a purse. There was no sign that said what line was which. The man was very rude the entire time, he's the type that you give him a bit of power he feels all mighty and strong . The rodeo was fun but everything was very expensive not very worth the value. RODEO!!! Growing up in the suburbs of Detroit, I had no idea what a rodeo was and what type of events are involved with the rodeo. After moving here in Jan 2022, all I heard about was the Reno Rodeo on the radio and TV. I had to see what this "rodeo" thing is all about. All I can say is WOW. This is my 4th year in a row attending this awesome and entertaining event. I am enamored with the spectacle of all the events but mostly in the athleticism and talent that these cowboys and girls need to have. Lets not forget how well these horses are trained to do their thing too. They are all literally amazing! From roping steers to barrel racing, riding bulls to wrestling steers, it is all amazing to watch, especially from a suburbanite! The entire Rodeo week has so much to offer the Reno area and we can be proud of such a fun and entertaining event. With something for everyone, there's the carnival rides for the kids, vendors to buy all your western gear and tack, beer tents, dancing and the list goes on. The Reno Rodeo Association does a bang up job wrangling all the members and volunteers to make this wonderful event roll each day like a smooth mechanism. Reno Rodeo is a local tradition filled with history. Here's a few pro tips...Don't pay to park. Park at GSR and take the FREE shuttle! They even have a cooler with free beer and water earlier in the day. Bring CASH for literally almost everything from tipping your shuttle driver to buying drinks even water. Vendors will use credit but cash is King here. Enjoy the carnival like atmosphere outside the arena. It gives fair vibes and lights up at night. Staff around are friendly with directions and watch the rodeo! It's an insane sport with life or death action and worth a watch. read more

Cash only in 2025? Seriously? No NFC, no Venmo, no mobile payments--just a bunch of outdated ATMs cluttering the place. Super inconvenient and honestly shocking they're still in business like this. Signage was a mess too. No clear directions or POS signs--just one 23x38 sign per bar (at their main bars) & a literally 8.5x11 at others. They need to check out some festivals to see how it's done right. This is sad. For a business running since 1919, you'd expect a smoother, more modern setup. I knew the rodeo events were sold out a while ago so I was so glad I the Carnival was an option for my nine year old nephew. We went on 6/15/2023. We opted to take the shuttle from GSR and save parking costs plus parking in general and it was easy peasy. From GSR to drop off it was about 15 minutes. We got to the venue just before 5pm and the crowd was pretty minimal. Kids under 12 is free for general entry and $10 for adults (cash only) if you are not attending a main event. Carnival wristband on this Thursday night was $32 (add a buck for debit at only one of the ticket booths, otherwise it is CASH and also CASH at general admission. There was a good variety of rides for young kids and also thrill seekers. My nine year old enjoyed the section with easier rides made for his age and also took on a handful of faster rides. I would say he did 30 total rides and myself, only did 6 because my belly could not take the fast spinny style rides and my nephew was ok repeating several on his own. We got our monies worth getting the wristband. I felt safe on all the rides and all the carnies were nice and friendly. The website has a section about the carnival. There was also a mechanical bull ride for $10. My nephew decided to give it a chance and stayed on for about a minute but his shoulder got strained from holding too hard and tense, he was able to shake it off after several minutes. I have to admit I was have FOMO vibes not getting into the MAIN EVENT as we did hear all the excitement. I saw a line when we first got to the venue for tickets that were being sold day of. I understand they release day of tickets in the morning as well. I had a pretzel (a bit dry and hard but the cheese sauce helped) and from the food court we had a chicken bowl and fresh lemonade. There were several BBQ booths, tacos, burgers, hot dogs etc. The center of the food court has seating for dining and we were able to get a spot pretty easy even during the dinner rush. I did not go to any of the shop booths but I plan to go back on Sunday for KIDS DAYS. It was fun people watching all the western wear and country cowboy/cowgirl outfits. We scuttled towards the shuttle pick up area just before the end of the main event and were shuttled back to GSR and home in under 30 minutes! read more

A five star Cattle Drive today down McCarren and Sutro streets heading to the Reno Fairgrounds for the opening of the Reno Rodeo today. It was Fantastic! Police and sheriffs on motorcycles, police cars with lights, covered wagons, cowboys and cowgirls on horseback with so many cattle being hearded down the street on the way to the Reno Rodeo Fairgrounds. Oh the Rodeo! I always have a blast when I come once a year to enjoy rodeo amazingness. Every year I feel that the event is more and more packed, which is amazing! I'm not a huge fan of crowds so I grin and bear that for the entertainment. I plan to volunteer my time next year, so I'm excited to see a different side of the Rodeo. There are plenty of places to get food and drinks and I've never had a bad experience. The rodeo kick off concerts are always so much fun and well put together. I can't wait for next year! We have attended rodeo throughout the west for many years. Looking forward to this year being in Reno, however very disappointed with the sound system. Horrible could not make out a single word from the announcer, even after sitting in different locations througout the stadium. My very first time at Reno Rodeo and at any Rodeo in general. To be honest, I had no idea what to expect from a Rodeo, but saw that this event was happening while I was in town, so I decided to go see what's up. I will say that my experience here was actually a very good one, but there are a lot of questions of animal ethics that come into play with the competitions and performances that are put on that, unfortunately, I have to give the event a one-star. Here are the reasons why I have to give this event a 1-star and would be a point of contention for whoever is going: - The event holders say that the animals involved in the competitions are okay, but some of the acts seem a bit brutal like knocking cattle to the ground. There's also another event that are roping cows on both sides which they fall flat on their stomachs. After some research online looking at the PETA website, a cow actually broke their spine in this event a couple of years ago and the association didn't say anything about it. If you are an animal lover, it may hurt to see some of the competitions. - No one is wearing a mask. Like actually nobody. I think many of them believe that the pandemic has passed. They won't hate on you for wearing one, but just be mentally ready that there is no type of social distancing or COVID prevention if you do come. - The tickets are honestly pretty hard to get if you don't order them beforehand. Recommend coming early in the morning the day of if you're interested. But if you do decide to go here are some of the better parts of the Rodeo: - There are so many things to do, whether that's the carnival, shopping, food, or the actual performance/competition. - The start of the show where there is a lot of talks of America and also the National Anthem, its interesting to see how everyone reacts. I have never seen so much patriotism and pride for USA, makes me feel proud to be an American. - People are actually quite nice, whether that's the workers or attendees, and everyone genuinely wants everyone to have a good time. Overall, I think its one of the most eye-opening experiences anyone can go to. But, the questions about animal abuse really get you thinking if these events should exist. Sure I had a great time, but my time was at the expense of perhaps an animal's life. I think in the 21st century, we should really ask ourselves these questions of whether or not we should still be endorsing such events when there's the abuse of these animals for performative measures. read more

Another year, another Rodeo here in Reno! I've only recently attended this event maybe a year or two ago, but I absolutely love it. There's so much to do, where do I even begin? Carnival rides, carnival games, food, drink, and merchant vendors, the Jack Daniels and Coors Light tents, and of course, the Rodeo itself! This year, with my work schedule, I was only able to attend one night out of the a-little-more-week long event. So you can bet I made the absolute most of that night. Arriving early is key to find good parking. We went this past Tuesday (6/19/18), and arrived to the parking lot around 20 min after 7pm, and almost every parking spot was filled. Fortunately, Lady Luck was on our side, because someone was leaving and we grabbed that spot almost immediately. Getting into the venue was of no hassle. Just have your tickets ready, get your wrist stamped, and you're basically in. If you have a bag, a quick bag check will be required. Planning on getting a drink? Or maybe a couple? Well the ID check stand was very efficient. Grab a beer or two and get to your seats to enjoy the Rodeo! We didn't really know where to go, but the attendees were very helpful in pointing us in the right direction. With so much events, my favorite, always will be the Bull Fighters. 40-60 seconds of pure adrenaline and anxiety, as you watch the bull fighters maneuver around a raging bull kicking back dust, ready to charge. Absolutely thrilling! Now just because the Rodeo is finished for the night, doesn't mean the night is over. There are the Jack Daniels tent and the Coors Light tent to dance the night away. There, you can order more drinks and enjoy upbeat country music. They threw in the Electric Slide too, so everyone was in on it! All in all, the Reno Rodeo is always eventful and a must-go for locals and tourists alike. Whether it's with friends or family, you'll have a memorable time. read more

Every year the Reno Rodeo rolls into town, and with it comes the cattle drive, cowboys, and western culture so reminiscent of Reno's roots in the wild west. Seeing big pickups, boots, chaps, cowboy hats, trailers, and livestock is very refreshing. It reminds me that Reno wasn't built around casinos and kitsch, but is really a city with history and culture that isn't shared, discussed and explored near enough! Being a rodeo cowboy is a struggle that not many will ever understand. We see rodeo as a sporting event, but for these people, it's a way of life that's in their blood, with origins deeply seated in the cowboy culture of the old west. These "events" served was vital practice for necessary skills that are part of normal life for cowboys and ranchers on the open range, before technology helped make what they do just a little bit easier. Garth Brooks' song did a great job glorifying the event, but the performance and money aren't really what this event is all about. Sure, it's fun to have a few drinks, watch the cowboys saddle up and risk life and limb for a potentially big payout, but this 10-day event is much more than entertainment. It's more a historical re-enactment and celebration of our community, past, present and future. read more

Went to the rodeo 3 times this year. The association has done a wonderful job putting this annual rodeo together. The 100th anniversary opening ceremony was very nice. Loved watching the bullriding competition, barrel racing and the kids muttin bustin. It's all around great family fun. The vendors are slightly pricey but the products are good quality. My husband even purchased us a hydrotherapy spa! So looking forward to it getting delivered! Recommend the experience to all. read more

I grew up around rodeos. In fact, each year I'd head to the Grand Nationals before the start and land a job bailing hay, cleaning out stables and watering the animals. The pay sucked but, that didn't matter. I was there because I loved the rodeo and loved how those men and women "cowboy'ed up." And now, having kids of my own, I thought it about time I shared that passion and love for the rodeo with them. And I couldn't think of a better place to start than at the Reno Rodeo. I scored free tickets from the Peppermill Hotel for June 24th and since I only got two seats, I opted to take my middle son David along. After arriving at the event via the free bus ride / shuttle from the hotel, we made our way through the sell out crowd and to our 4th row seats, just in time for National Anthem and the start of the events. Bull Dogging, team roping, bareback bronc riding, bull riding and not to leave out the lovely ladies who ride like the wind around those barrels. These were just few of the events my son and I were blessed with seeing. The weather was beautiful. The beer was cold (and cheap at $6 bucks for a 16 ounce cup) and the vibe was incredible. Oh, and I can't forget all the lovely ladies who came dressed to impress in their mini skirts, cowboy boots and two fisted beers. I didn't know if I was at the rodeo or a Jason Aldean concert - God bless em. This event was one for the books. I'm happy I had the opportunity to return to the Rodeo and even more thrilled I was able to share it with my son, who I'm sure at age 16 had a great time seeing all the sights. read more

Probably one of the top events in the Reno area. The 10 day cowboy filled event is the wildest and richest rodeo in the west. Top names in riders, ropers, and wrestlers gallop to Reno every June to compete for big money and points to get them to granddaddy rodeo of all- the National Finals inLasVegas This event is the largest fund raiser in northern Nevada. The profits go to Scholarships to the University of Nevada, grants to community organizations that serve children and families across Northern Nevada, the Denim Drive to provide new clothing to abused and neglected children in protective custody and foster care, and granting of Rodeo Wishes. A decent carnival with rides, games and food is set up out front to enjoy hours before and after the rodeo performance. There is a large food vendor area for all sorts of munchies. Y'all! The rodeo is where it's at, especially on a Friday night! And this is coming from someone who is not especially rodeotastic. I had so much fun last night! Tickets were just under $30 each, bought the day before and sent to my e-mail. Knowing that a good chunk of that money goes to charity and scholarships, I have no qualms about paying that price. We went in the entrance to the Washoe County Fairgrounds on Wells Ave, and since I live nearby, we went on foot. I highly recommend parking on 5th, 6th, or 7th St and hiking in rather than dealing with parking or a cab. Unless one plans on doing some serious drankin, as some folks there seemed eager to do! Beer prices were very reasonable: my 24 oz Coors Light was only $7 before tip. And do tip, y'all, because the vendors, especially those ladies and gents huffing it up the grandstands with stuffs, deserve some extra cash! Also, for those non-drinkers, there are plentiful non-alc beverage options to be found, like all kinds of varieties of lemonade and limeade and sweet tea and sodas. My boyfriend and I sat in Grandstand D and we had a great view of the action and of the sunset over Peavine. The events were so much fun to watch: steer wrestling, team roping, bull riding and saddle bronc were my favorites with the women's barrel racing being my top fav (obvi). The French dude who did gymnastics over the bull and the American mustang show were also neat. And the mutton bustin!!! Alas that I am not between the age of 5 and 7 and thus cannot attempt to ride the sheeps. The program is mostly advertisements, but the rodeo website works well on a phone and has clear explanations of what is going on in each event for rodeo newbies. The carnival is fun to see, and a Ferris wheel ride (8 tickets or $10 for two people) is well worth it. Also worth the price of admission is the people watching. Lordy! So many attractive countrified ladies, so many attractive countrified gents. My clothes only come in the genres of J.Crew and Ann Taylor work clothes and lulu running clothes, so I looked hella out of place. No hat, no boots, no midriff tank and lacy shorts for me. What a mess... Starting with NO Wells Street sign for access to parking lot.. Entrance a joke: 1. Initial line for entrance 2. Another line for waiting for one gal checking IDs for beer bracelets. 3. ANOTHER line to get into the Arena. 4. Two story stair climb to get over to Sections S etc. Really sad to see many plus sized patrons struggling to go over the metal stairs...when there was a direct crossing available with security volunteers turning back patrons pushing baby carriages. 5. Wanna buy a hot doggie...you have to leave the arena...getting a hand stamp...to WAIT in the Arena entrance line AGAIN. Grrrrrrr. HEY folks..too many shoved into a facility that has been surrounded by residential housing and county buildings. SELL THE SITE Take the money up to Stead and build a new modern SPACIOUS event center. Have one entrance screen gate and create shade for seating. Wanna visit a well managed reference site? Go to Cody Wyoming...it's laid out like the Reno Airshow...LOTS OF PARKING easily accessed...walk through one gate to the Grandstands which are facing EAST... I will never get into the Cluster **** of one way closed streets and backup for the entrance to the parking lot ever again.. read more

It's the Reno Rodeo again! I love going to this event. It's is just a good time and great for family and friends to hang out and have a great time. There is so much to see and do. Let's start with the vendors that sell anything from clothes, hats, little nick nacks, toys, stickers, belts, saddles, holsters, candy and there are also food vendors too. The food vendors sell hotdogs, popcorn, BBQ, teriyaki chicken, burgers, fries, corn dogs and more. Mind you each vendors is different and sell different items. There are many vendors that sell other items as well. You will just have to come down and see them all. So you can go to the carnival during the day time and it is usually much easier to get in because there isn't that many people. But if you come around 4ish and on there is a lot of people in line to get into the rodeo. Parking is hard to find when you come around 4pm and on. This year they are offering a shuttle ride from UNR so that would be a great way to get to the rodeo and spare yourself the traffic and headache of finding parking. I would recommend getting here early if you don't want to deal with the mass number of people. But once your in the rodeo it is fine. I'm sure I'm missing something or forgetting to let you know about an event that they have. But there is so much that happens at the Rodeo. If you have never been you should at least try to go once just to go. See the sights and smells haha. But really it is just a good time. There is also the Jack Daniels tent which serves alcohol and other vendors around the carnival area. Please drink responsibly and have a great time. But you can have alcohol on the premises but only once you are in the rodeo and have your ticket. A good bit of advice that my friends and I have done for parking is leave a vehicle there early during the day. Then get dropped off by a friend that doesn't want to go to the rodeo. So it was my second time at the rodeo. Thanks to Yelp and Reno Rodeo Legacy I won free tickets. The carnival midway was jumping with the usual rides -- Ferris wheel, buccaneer and a loop roller coaster just to name a few. Just watching the rides made me a bit dizzy but those who could stomach the rides seemed to enjoy them. There was tons of rodeo wear, salsa, and adjustable beds for purchase in the market place. The food ran the gamut from corn dogs to deep fried peaches to A&W. I've heard a rumor that there's a higher end saloon but I can never seem to find it....instead I had: Grilled corn - this is the must have street food for me. Sweet corn grilled to perfection hold the butter for me. Memphis Sandwich from the Brother's BBQ truck - tender pork topped with Cole Slaw don't forget their signature sauce. Very good - I just which is was served on Texas toast. A&W Root Beer float (made with diet root beer as it cancels outs the calories from the ice cream) - it hit the spot on a hot day. Oh yeah I was there to see the rodeo. Sections A-D are in need of a sun canopy but it's perfectly situation between both shoots. Highlight for me were the Broncos with and without saddles. The kid's doing the Mutton Dash. Ok some of the roping was a bit much for me. It was another great time at the rodeo....can't wait to go back in 2017! read more

Security is beyond rude, Parking is a nightmare, I spent 30 min looking for parking then 15 min walking to the entrance of the Rodeo's carnival only to be told there is an entrance fee on top of the ride fee's. also they dont accept card's only cash. and on top of all of that I get denied entrance because I have a "telephoto" camera. in reality its a small DSLR I was going to take photos of the ride at night when they are all lit up. I have never written a 1 star review ever but I am beyond mad that because I have a hobby of taking photos im not allowed to enter and then rudely escorted out. read more

Believe me; squeeze my balls and get on top of me and I too will try to buck you off. I do not like watching the guys and gals get hurt either, but they have a choice in the matter. One of the first things coming out of the mouth of an announcer was a call for a Christian jihad against our government. Political views were bandied about through the whole of the performance. This is not a political convention; keep your bovine brained thoughts to yourself. IT was the usual nonsense about how God favors us as Americans. It would seem these folks know nothing of God. The rodeo clown who too had access to a microphone and made a true clown of himself with his views. But other than the event being one long commercial for local and non local businesses and the fools with the microphone it was an ok night for a rodeo. read more

Tonight my friend I were detained by whom Ever is in charge of security of the Reno rodeo. It went as far as the security involved accusing me of stealing and threatening a rodeo employee of rodeo tickets. We were detained and assessed by Reno/sparks pd. We were detained outside of the Reno rodeo to be embarrassed in front of the crowd. I proved bank account statements and rodeo tickets to prove we we're innocent. We were released after two plus hours of questioning and harassment by the security involved to only get our rodeo tickets given back to us.... Honestly targeting well paying customers is a shame. Not only to have my tickets to be stripped from me but then given back...... Seriously need to get some educated officers in the establishment, not only does it embarrass the Reno community as a whole but the rodeo directly. I bought tickets in person at the Lawlor events center at UNR, which saved me a $5.75 fee PER TICKET for buying them online. I understand paying an extra buck for buying a movie ticket online, but a $5.75 fee PER TICKET is insulting, especially for those coming from out of town who have little choice but to buy their tickets online. Good thing I can get to Lawlor on my lunch hour, right? Here's an idea: make the cost of the tickets an extra buck or two if you really need the revenue that badly. Is this the Reno Rodeo, or American Airlines? Our tickets were for opening night of the Reno Rodeo last night, and we saw what we could of it. The show starts at 7:00 PM, so we thought we were OK leaving our house in South Reno at 6:00 PM. It would give us some time to check out the vendors before the show starts. Unfortunately they had traffic so completely screwed up that it took us NINETY MINUTES to get there. Traffic was backed up all the way onto the freeway, and we witnessed several near-misses between cars trying to exit the freeway for the Rodeo with those trying to merge onto I-80 from Wells St. It was a really dangerous situation caused by the Reno Rodeo's lack of proper planning. One young father got out of his car on the Wells Street exit ramp and carried his 2 year old over the jersey barrier and into the bushes so he could go to the bathroom. The traffic was at a dead stop, so he didn't even have to run to catch up to his car after his kid was finished. After driving all the way around the block...very slowly, I might add...a very nice attendant by the parking lot we were circling told us that due to security, they had parking reduced to one entrance. However, they did not have it properly marked and the people who were supposed to be guiding traffic toward the parking lot were chatting with each other and not doing their jobs. So after passing the VIP and disabled parking entrance, the security-only entrance and the contestants-only entrance (all of which were very clearly marked) we missed the regular-slobs-like-us entrance, which was not clearly marked AT ALL. There also did NOT seem to be any additional security measures that we could see...nice try, guys. We ended up parking in a back alley near the freeway and walking about 1/2 mile to the venue. How's that secure? We discovered an additional reason for the ridiculous and dangerous traffic backup: parking is $7. Not $5, or $10, but a weird amount in the middle that requires the poor attendant to make change at almost every transaction. Here's an idea: add another $2.50 to the price of a ticket and make parking FREE. It's what they do at ski resorts and amusement parks in order to get large numbers of people into the venue quickly to spend their money. It's a really easy fix that would make everybody happy, keep traffic moving, and perhaps prevent a deadly accident on the freeway nearby. Also, why have only one or two parking attendants...why not 5 or 6? For an event that will be attended by THOUSANDS of people, it makes sense to invest in a little bit of logistics, right? We missed the opening ceremony completely and ended up watching about 30 minutes of bull riding (which was great), the mutton busting (which was adorable) and then the show was over. What we saw of the show was great, and why I gave it two stars instead of one. We have come to the show before and are really glad that it is so well attended, but with the rate that Reno is growing, the planners really need to anticipate the crowds that are going to show up. I'd love to come back and have a chance to enjoy the show, but last night's experience really bummed us out. If you live in Reno, I would recommend leaving yourself at least 2 hours to get there. I absolutely love this rodeo! My family and I make a point to attend it every year. Sometimes more than once! Why? Well, watching rodeo events is exciting and fun. At this rodeo you get to see a little bit over everything- bull riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing....you even get to see cute little kids riding sheep! Plus, the Rodeo has a fair so before or after you watch the events you can do some shopping (leather pants anyone?), eat some good food (who needs an excuse to eat BJ's BBQ?!) and go on some rides. You can even take your turn on a mechanical bull! The crowd itself is typically a diverse bunch- ranging from folks dressed up in rodeo clothes, to teenagers to tourists. Everyone is in good spirits- cheering and laughing. Oh, and did I mention all the cowboys walking around??? This is one fantastic entertainment event. If you haven't checked it out yet- you should make a night of it. Yeeee Haw! read more

The reno rodeo has got to be the best time of year for the Biggest Little City. Historically reno is a western town and it shines when the best of the best come to compete. There wouldn't be this great event without the hundreds of volunteers and associates and sponsors that put it on Many of those I know and have worked with and they Are amazing. I'm very connected to this event, I was a bull rider And a day in the life for these guys is compete and then leave you don't see to many who stick around after the chutes empty out. It's a very tough job and way to make money and it takes a toll on your body. I broke my pelvic bone in two places. Rodeo and bull riding in particular is a sport no others can touch and it really is something that gets in your blood. It's simply incredible and these are some of the nicest athletes you'll meet. Humble and competitive Many have misconceptions around rodeo and I can tell you that these animals are well taken care of sometimes better than the competing cowboys are. And especially is true in bull riding, no their balls aren't cinched. They simply wrap a bull rope around their waste it doesn't hurt them. And these animals are bred and raised to buck. I am an animal lover. I've had horses, have one now and over 180 cattle currently in no way would I support a rodeo that harms animals. I don't know of any that do. Beyond the sports, the event is great family fun. Carnival, food and the jack tent if that's your thing. I go for the sport but there's something for everyone. read more

Yeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaa.... The Reno Rodeo is always a fun time. Good talent and amazingly LARGE food. A pound of curly fries accompanied by a half gallon of strawberry lemon date...Yes Please :P I was almost embarrassed carrying this goliath to the table....almost :) I truly don't think there is a bad seat in the house. We were in the bleachers facing the main Grand Stands and we had a great view of the Bull Riding and all the activities. You do get a little more sun there though. Good presence of Police and Medical personnel. Fairly easy to get a taxi at the end of the night as well. We will be back! read more
