Here is my story: Very organized Very neat and clean establishment Very articulate Manager Very worthy cause Get there and volunteer for 3 hours. Wash your hands and dawn your gloves. Get assigned to a station and get to work. This journey, I sorted canned goods. We need to check on several things and they are: expiration date of product and condition of good. Each type of food in cans have different expiration dates. They are sorted by container in advance of our getting to work. They had pallets of dried goods, infant foods, paper products, and the list goes on. It is my understanding that Walmart (whose regional distribution center is a block away) brings their stale dated or expired goods to The FBNN for repacking and distribution. Nothing goes to waste. Whatever does not got out to various charities goes out to various farms to feed their herd. A worthwhile cause, a worthwhile journey! Hana Hou Nancy V

It's hard to trust someone and leave your baby with them but finding a community like the one at Kinderland really makes a huge difference. Our son loves coming here and honestly some days it's hard to make him leave. All of the teachers are so nice and so good with him and you can really tell they're passionate and love the kids. What an amazing group of ladies and staff!…read more When I learned our elementary school wouldn't have Boys & Girls Club over the summer, I was a bit frantic in searching for camps and activities to keep the kids busy over the summer. I saw a post for CLC on our school's Facebook page and reached out. I signed the kids up for two weeks in mid and late July. But they had so much fun we signed up for another week. Stacy and Jackie are so helpful, took care in navigating my kids' egg and peanut allergy, and were excellent at communicating with me. It's very obvious they truly care about the kids. Not only is the summer camp reasonably priced, but the kids had a ton of fun, and I felt confident they were safe under Stacy and Jackie's care. Highly recommended! We will be back next summer!

The Community Life Center (or CLC if you are lucky to be a part of their family) is not just a…read morecommunity center. They are there for families, children, and people of all ages and walks of life. If you have a young child that need before and after school care, they can help. If you have a teenager who needs a place to go and be focused to do distanced learning, they can help. Or even if you have a middle schooler who needs a safe and inclusive environment after school a few days a week, they have that too. Every day is a fun, exciting, loving day for my kids at this center. Not only are they able to be their quirky selves (let's face it, all middles schoolers are) but I know they are safe. I know I can finish my work day and have piece of mind that they were in a good environment while I navigate through these times. If you are looking for a place for your child to go please give them a try. It truly is a community that every child should get to experience. A chance to be a part of a family outside of their own. A place that will give them a sense of belonging when so many things in their life are wonky and inconsistent. Enrolling my children here was the best thing I ever did, for us as an entire family.

I heard about Urban roots last year (2025) and participated in 2 events. This year I signed my…read moredaughter up in the preschool program for this spring and it has been a wonderful experience. The programs are extremely hands on, including arts and craft activities, sowing seeds, harvesting and tasting vegetables. My daughter looks forward to visiting Urban Roots all the time. Ellena and all the other staff members are always so friendly and welcoming. They're informative and all seem to really enjoy their jobs at the garden. This place is just wonderful for everyone regardless of age. I highly recommend it for all kids but especially for homeschooling families looking for extra curricular activities.

People started lining up at 11 AM for their pantry, which runs on the first and third Friday of the month from 12 noon to 4:30 PM, and on the fourth Saturday of the month, from 1 to 3 PM. Clients may come twice a month. Typical food selections for a family are some meats, fresh milk, juice, cheese, canned goods, some fresh fruit and vegetables, sweets, and packaged goods. It depends on how big your family is. They also have a small clothing pantry here. And just today, they started offering cleaning supplies and toiletries, like body wash, conditioner, toothpaste, sponges, cotton balls, shower poufs, luffah scrubs, make-up remover, glass cleaner, powder cleaner like Ajax, toilet bowel cleaner, and laundry detergent. They were lots to choose from. As clients waited in line, another volunteer brought out chocolates and nuts for them. They provide boxes and bags for the clients, and even push carts so they can wheel the goods to their cars. I was very happy to be a part of this wonderful organization today. Please note that the location can be hard to find. It is in the back, in a converted storage unit of iStorage, along with other small businesses nearby. It is directly to the left of "Buy It For Less" once you get to the storage rows. You can enter the business at an entrance off US 50 immediately to the west of Classy Seconds, or use US 50 to take Brown Street south, then make a right onto Gordon Street. They are in the western row of the businesses in iStorage (left part of the "U"-shaped storage rows). The location is marked incorrectly on Google Maps (they are off by one storage row), but I will correct it today. --------- EDIT: The location has now been updated on Google Maps.
