In May one of their garbage trucks hit the wires crossing the street to my house and pulled them off the siding - damaging my siding in the process. They did make a claim with their representatives (who never answer a call or email) and it was denied as they said the wires were low and the truck was of legal height. I've lived in the house for 29 years and Republic has been my provider the entire time - kind of odd how the wires were suddenly too low. Business is simple - just do the right thing. My siding repair was not very expensive, but they would rather just deny, deny, deny. read more

Missed recycling pick up, right before a storm. Our entire street had garbage blowing all over the neighborhood. Requested a missed pick up on the app, they did not come. Worst customer service. On hold *forever* b/c they won't hire enough people. Then it's just a call center. Call your local branch? Forget about it, all calls go to their call center, outside the US. Then, when they consistently miss trash pickups, they *never* come back to pick it up. Trash sits out for a whole week because every day the "guarantee" a "person is on their way". Then, if it's after hours, to leave a message, they ask you press 2. Pressing "2" hangs up the line. Wonderful! Oh...and my bill has gone up 50% in the past year! What could improve? Where do I start? 1. Customer Service is apparently non-existent. I wait on the phone while they are "servicing" other customers. I wait for so long that they ask if I'd like to have them call me back (they say that I won't lose my place in line). Yesterday, I did that in the morning. Did they ever call me back? NO! I'm writing this while on hold today since I know I'll have plenty of time to finish it since they apparently don't pick up customer calls. 2. Their app and website are useless. I try to link my account by using their worthless instructions. It keeps asking me for my account number. I don't have one since my bill is paid as part of my city's Utility Bill. Once, it asked me to check a box if my bill is paid through my city. I checked the box and it asked me for my service address. I put my address in. It said I should unchecked the box and put in my account number (which, of course, I don't have one). All I want to do is replace my garbage receptacle (which THEY damaged). The website says I can do that online. But since I cannot link my account, I have no access to that function. This is happens when your city contracts your garbage service. I called Republic and tried to cancel and was given the runaround. I finally reached someone who informed me that I was somehow under contract with them even though I never signed anything and the prices kept going up. The Account Manager said that the previous owner signed a 3-year contract in 2015 and after the contract was up, it automatically signed us up for another 3 years. And if we broke the contract, the "penalty" is 6-times the last billing amount (so approximately $1,026.54). We also have to cancel with a certified letter to the Company. After I demanded the original contract be sent to me, I realized that the 6-year contract actually was due to expire in a little over two month. Luckily, I was also 2-weeks ahead of the mandatory 60-day cancellation period. So, in a few months, I will be done with the awful company. read more

Frequently miss trash pick up and will not refund for missed services. Additionally, their rates have increased 40% in the last quarter.

We paid our bill PROMPTLY and then decided to cancel your services due to the rate hike. We received a bill in the mail stating we have a refund of $93.33 - do not pay I expect a check would be sent us. You did not send the refund. I called on the following dates: 06/22/2022 and requested a refund 07/15/2022 you stated you would advise A/P we were still waiting for a refund 07/22/2022 we were told the refund was processing and we should expect it by 08/22/2022 07/28/2022 we were told the refund was processing and we should expect it by 08/22/022 08/23/2022 we were told the refund was not showing up on our bill so it must be on the way 08/30/2022 Keith escalated our problem and said we would get a call within 24 hours 08/30/2022 Kayla said Keith escalated our problem and did not know why we did not get a call back 08/30/2022 we were told our refund was processing and no one knew why we were not being called 08/31/2022 Tammy states she is showing a different refund amount than our bill states. The refund will go to a credit card ending in 2435 Exp 11/22 We paid online through Key Bank checking account. We have no clue what credit card you are referencing since the card does not belong to us. We need to get a check sent to us for this refund immediately. I should not have to call for an overpayment to be sent to me. I should not have to wait over 3 months for my refund. I should not have to call 9 times for my refund. Abandon all hope, all ye who enter a contract here. This company manages to fail in every single aspect. It is impressive to see them miss all the marks routinely. 1. Twice in one month they didn't pick up the garbage at all. I have three young children in diapers, and we cannot have missed pickups. There was so much garbage piling up we couldn't put it in garbage cans and the bags were in the garage, which attracts vermin and smells disgusting. 2. I called and the customer service agent nonchalantly told me they weren't going to come get my garbage until next time. I said that was intolerable. He said "sorry, we're just not going to do it." I asked for a credit for the missed service. How did he respond? He screwed up the credit and I was charged an extra amount instead. 3. After another episode of missed trash I called, very upset. The CSR told me that someone would come the next day to get the trash and she was going to give me a credit. Next day rolls, they didn't come. I was gobsmacked. 4. I called again and this time they told me nobody was going to come get the garbage because "We have a bunch of call offs and the truck is broken down." I told them to cancel my account and send me a refund since I had paid a few weeks ago for service. 5. Still waiting on that refund check. 6. Whatever company is not these guys, pick that company. read more

Mentor-on-the-lake stuck with this horrible trash service. Glad I do not live there. Upon the untimely passing of my sister-in-law, I have been working on her house getting it ready to sell. Wasn't sure the trash service took furniture or large items. Called Republic. They assured me they did. I put out a dining room table, sofa, ottoman, old ceiling fans etc. That was 6 weeks ago. Every week they don't take it, my wife calls them. Every week they say they will take it, they don't. Now it's all buried under 3 feet of snow. I know they certainly won't take it now. We paid for service through this week. Anyone want to bet they won't come pick that stuff up after 6 plus weeks after the service is stoppedthis week? I wouldn't take that bet. Buyer Beware!!! I would rate this company a minus 10 if I could. They just keep raising their rates, and adding on fees until you are paying double what the other local services are charging. If you call to cancel, they add on a month per "their policy", charge you to pick up THEIR property (can), and sound bored that you even bothered to call, even though that is the ONLY WAY they will let you cancel service. Not in writing, not on their website, you must call and WAIT forever on the phone and then they transfer you to SALES!! Hello, I am NOT buying I QUIT!!!!! They raised my rate to triple the amount I initially signed up with in 3 years without notice. When I called to discuss this rate hike they said "we can change whatever we want, you can choose to continue to use us or not." I cancelled service. They told me to leave my trash can at the end of the street on a specific date and they would pick it up. I did. When I got home from work the trash can was gone. They are now charging me for the trash can, which I never said I wanted to buy and do not have! I called multiple times and talked to several people but was still charged. Medina, Ohio - Trash pickup normally is Friday but was delayed a day due to a holiday. Should have pick up on June 1st, they never came on Saturday. K Cordesman Republic Services, Inc. 40195 Butternut Ridge Rd Elyria, OH 44035 I have called multiple times-but these people just DON'T care. I have had 4 strokes, and they repeatedly drop my garbage can down on its side or carry it from the tree lawn and drop it in the drive. When you have a stroke or heart attack seconds count-so having to move it out of my drive to let an ambulance get through could be deadly! They clearly don't care about the disabled or elderly-wish I could be around when they get there. Hope they get what they are giving now. I encourage everyone with this horrible, horrible service to contact their city and get a new group. The city promised to review each year about rehiring these fools or getting someone new- but never do. I have complained to the city-they just ignore me. If this happens to you-remember-elected officials DON'T have to stay elected. When you go to vote remember the horrible treatment from Republic Service-that will cast your ballot. Pass the word-some people don't have computers but should be heard-word of mouth is always best. In the beginning we would pay Republic each month-that way if they did not do their job- we did not pay them. The city then held hands with Republic and set it up so it comes out of our taxes-how is that legal? I thought our taxes paid for city services-our city used to collect the trash. A neighboring city still does that-why, can't we? Maybe we could team up with them and our tax money would go to our benefit. The best way to get rid of Republic Services is to get rid of those who hire them and don't listen to tax paying citizens. Republic Services is a disgrace to their industry and a cancer on the city. Thank goodness they don't drive an ambulance-body parts would be thrown all over the city. It's clear our city leaders and Republic Service are not a good pair and need to be separated. Tax payers should be first concern which it clearly is not now. I do my part, but they don't even try to do theirs. In any case-you are paying for their medical-do you want to pay for medical for the customers too as it is likely employees will cause these problems. The attitude towards the job is systemic, bottom to top don't care about the customer who pays their salary. I talked to a customer service person who said she was going to forward this to a supervisor and they would call me-but of course never did. No surprise-lazy and uncaring too. There must be some unheard of reason this business stays in business because it sure isn't because they do their job. Hopefully word will get out, our city leaders will get voted out and the new ones will hire another company. Your employees must be union because a quality company would not hire them. Medina OH service: Very poor customer service. Indicated to customers that there would be a day delay in garbage pickup due to Memorial Day holiday. On the adjusted day of pickup no one arrived and garbage still sits. They raised my Mom's rates. I called to get a Senior Rate. One person told me yes, they do this, then passed me on to another who said they didn't. The 3rd person said they did, but you had no garbage can. Asked about Racoons getting into garbage. No answers. The 4th person said no they had no Senior Rates. The 5th person said they did and somehow, my Mom is signed up for it. But they too, could not tell me if she would have any garbage cans??????? OMG. You CANNOT get a local answer either!!! Shady, shady company. Do not sign up with these folks (small businesses, landlords)...your prices will rise continuously and you cannot leave. I own an apartment building and signed a 3 year contract for a set price. Lo and behold the prices kept rising every few months. I would call to inquire and the standard mantra is that costs are rising...ya da ya da. "It's in the contract...we can raise fees when necessary." So, I'm stuck with a company/product that can raise fees whenever they feel like it + add "regulatory compliance fees...aka "handling charges". 3 year contract, yet one must send a letter by certified mail 60 days prior to the 3 year date. Does our representative mention this when I ask him as to the ending date of the contract? Of course not. Do you think they would have the courtesy to send out a letter stating that the contract is ending and asking if we would like to renew. No, no, that would be much too ethical. So, at this point I am stuck with another 3 years of this slimy contractor/competitor. Better purchase that 2017 calendar. I had already selected a new contractor that has received terrific reviews (business aquaintances + relatives + city we live in) + rates much lower than Republic + no rise in monthly rates + no "office/regulatory fee". Full disclosure: they both charge an environmental/fuel fee. Amazing that there are no laws in place for this type of chicanery. Their call center is very friendly, but unfortunately there isn't very good communication between the call center and operations. I called to verify that a specific day was in fact our bulk pick-up day and the person I reached "checked" and said it was our bulk pick up day. So I have someone help me carry my bulk items to the curb. I have a bad back and have to have someone help with these things. Well, no truck ever came that day to pick up the bulk items so I called again and waited on hold for 40 minutes to talk to a supervisor who assured me that someone would come to pick up my items. The weekends goes by and my items are still out on the curb (during a snow storm) so I call again on Monday morning and once again, they assure me that a truck will be by to pick up the items. Shortly after that I get a call from a very rude woman claiming to be a supervisor from Operations in Elyria and she informs me that I missed my bulk pick up because it was 2 weeks prior and that no trucks would be coming to pick up the items. So I cancelled my service immediately and then I had to get someone to help me drag the items back into the yard because I can't do it myself. This was truly the worst that I have ever been treated as a customer with any company I have dealt with. I am thankful that there are other trash removal companies that I can choose from for the services that I need, as I know that is not true in all areas. read more
