We have been residential customers of Republic Services for several years with very few problems. Unfortunately, that experience ended when we arranged for a bulk removal of a couch and loveseat. I paid $150 in advance to arrange for this service and was advised that it would be picked up on the next Friday. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday came and went and I still had a couch and loveseat on my curb. I called customer service again and they said there had been a miscommunication and that they meant the following Friday. On the second Friday, I called again and they said: "The truck is on its way." But guess what? No one came and now I've had a couch and loveseat on my curb for 10 days. The neighbors and the HOA aren't happy with me. One more phone call on Saturday and again we were told: "The truck is on its way." Now on day 11 and I am beginning to wonder where the truck is driving from--maybe California? This company has an unfortunate customer business approach which seems to be: "Lie to the customer so they will get off my back. Promise whatever they want because we already have their money." Don't ever use this company for bulk trash pickup. It simply isn't worth the empty promises that accompany your empty pocketbook. read more

The absolute worst trash service ever! Do not use them. Pay a little extra for another company to receive better service and honest customer service. They do not follow through on what they say they will do and they flat out lie to the consumer. Republic is an underhanded, dishonest, and a disgraceful company that should be shut down. I am giving Republic a 5 star review, because if you are a lonely person, you will get to talk to someone at Republic at least once a week, often more often than that, when they neglect to pick up your trash. As a bonus, they will skip regular trash pick up AND yard waste pick-up, so that gives multiple opportunities for conversation EACH AND EVERY week. I would cancel service, but my husband seems to love talking to the Republic customer service folk. read more

They keep telling me they are going to make it right, and now I have 4 weeks worth of yard waste, 2 weeks worth of garbage and they took my money, trying to charge me to pick up their receptacles which is hilarious since they can't even pick up the trash, recyclables, nor yard waste, all they while keeping my $$$$$...It is utterly harassment in the purest but seems no one cares about that . read more

4th time in recent months that they missed our entire street. Called 3-4 times and was told they would pick up 7/17. I knew it wouldn't happen. PLUS they do not give any credit to your bill for missed service. Reduced pick-ups from 2 times a week to once a week and did not change their rate. You cannot talk with anyone local. If you call the number, you get someone out of state. I was put in touch with a supervisor in the "escalation department". He said they are aware of issues in our area. I would cancel, but their competition is double in price, although it may be worth it to get the trash picked up. read more

This company is like the MAFIA! You can't quit the service because you can't talk to your account representative. You ask for a copy of your contract and they say that you have to talk to your account representative. They'll give you a name but not a phone number or email. This is the 21st Century for Chrissakes! You give them your phone number and are supposed to receive a call back within 48 hours. It doesn't happen. My trash bill has jumped 30% in the last year. If I could give Republic Services less than 1 star I would. Several times now within the past 6 weeks, RS has missed picking up our trash. Phone calls to their customer service mean nothing. One, they've reduced their service from 2 trash pick ups per week to 1. Two, then about 6 weeks ago they started missing the once a week pick up. We're now down to getting our trash picked up once every 2 weeks! Until I read these reviews, I honestly thought they were trying to get us to cancel our service because coming down our street for 3 or 4 houses wasn't worth it for them. Most of our neighbors use another service and their trash gets picked up twice a week! My bill is over a $100 dollars, but when I asked for a credit for the missed services, the Customer Service rep only took $12 off my bill. Really?! read more

Called first thing this morning to get an issue worked out with my account. These people we're nothing but polite and friendly. I'm not sure what the other reviewers here said or how they led into their conversations but as a general rule you treat people the way you yourself would want to be treated. I've never had an issue with my trash collection, never had an issue with Republic communicating with me in regards to pickup or delays, or anything of a sort and now I've received pretty terrific customer service when i assumed it would be anything but. read more

If I could give this company an negative rating I would. This is the worst disposal service ever. They continuously miss our pick ups for yard waste and when we call to have them pickup the missed day, they state that they will send someone out and a date is scheduled. Needless to say they never come on that scheduled date either. First we were told we couldn't get a credit then after numerous calls they stated we could. Their answer is we always send it to a manager. A lot of good that does because the problem continues. I would never recommend this service and beware of this company. It is awful!! read more

I have called this company 4 times and requested a call back. They don't return phone calls nor do they itemize their bills. I have been a customer for 10+ years and I discontinued my service in October. They didn't bother to tell me that there would be any charges due. I received an invoice for the month of October, I pay my bill yearly, with no explanation for the charges. When I called they said that there was a $30 container removal fee in addition to $30.75 for the month of October. I was never informed about this removal fee and they are refusing to drop it. I am absolutely livid at their lack of customer service and that they think they can get away with charging me for something which I was never told about. read more

I just signed up for residential services and received my trash/recycling bins within two days. I have not received any further information about when trash and recycling pick up days are. I've tried calling the Fairfax customer service number for three days now and each time no one ever picks up. If I don't receive my pick up information within a few more days I'm going to cancel my services since there seems to be no one available at the company to resolve my issue. I "started" service 3 weeks ago, and I have yet to receive my containers. I have called customer service at least 10 times to see when our trash and recycling bins would be delivered and each time I get the run around. I have heard "they'll be there by tomorrow" or "they should be there later this afternoon" more times than I can count at this point. I've also emailed with no response. I'm not typically the type of person who writes reviews, but in this case I feel it is warranted. In short, they are very unreliable. I have to call about missed pick ups at least twice a month. The representatives who answer the phone are competent and generally apologetic. However, they are rarely helpful. I have been told over and over again that they can do little more than enter requests into their system. read more

Again trash didn't get picked up.They have over 3 hrs left of work but no one can do it until Monday. This company use tobe good but the last year they have gotten sloppy.I have gone over 3 weeks of no pick up or recycle pick up.And when they do come to get it.They are good picking it up on time for like I say a month or two.Then it's back to missing us. They don't want the leaves or yard stuff in bags They won't take it.But what else are you suppose to do when They don't come get it.And then they only give you a $5.00 credit. Update: Customer Service in AZ connected me with a local supervisor named Dan. Republic services visited my home, took pictures and appeared to be coaching their team on the issues we were having. After speaking with Dan and conveying the dissatisfaction with Republic Services I asked if we could be refunded for the yard service we were not receiving. He assured me they could not credit our account but would remove the charge for the upcoming quarter. Just received our bill and this did not happen. Another fail by Republic. I've left messages with Dan to receive the refund and am awaiting a response. read more

I'm so disappointed in Republic Trash and Recycling Services. Each week I typically have yard waste (grass and weeds). They stopped picking it up completely during the summer. I was travelling and when I returned my yard waste had soured and smelled horrible. My neighbors were even complaining I was terribly embarrassed. After calling and complaining that this had happened multiple times, they would only credit my account once. They scheduled a pickup just for mine - which never happened. For weeks, I had to mix my yard waste in with the regular trash if I wanted it picked up. It still continues to be a big problem. It's now been over two weeks and I keep calling and complaining. They are very apologetic but why pay for a service that you aren't getting. I guess it's time for me to switch to a more reliable company that I can trust. My advice .... if you have yard waste, live in a neighborhood, avoid this company!!!! read more

Incredibly poor service. They've reduced frequency of pickup essentially halving the trash they will remove while charging the same price. Customer service is nonexistent. They don't really care about customer relations. You might want to consider a weekly family run to the dump. Would be just as easy as hoping republic decides to come pick up your trash. read more

Pathetic service. They recently cut their service from two trash pickups a week to one pickup a week (and lowered their price a measly $6). You'd think they'd have plenty of capacity to pickup trash on time now, but apparently not. They missed a pickup during the transition so I called to request another pickup. They said someone would be out by the end of the day. Nobody showed. I called the next day and they said someone would be out that day. Nobody showed. I called the next day and they said I was on the schedule for a Friday and Monday pickup. Nobody showed either days. I called again and requested a credit for the missed pickup and the receptionist said one would appear on my next invoice and a manager would call that day to explain what's going on. The manager did call, but between the time my phone started ringing and me reaching down to pick it up, the ringing stopped. No voicemail. No retry. It feels like he/she "checked the box" by calling and had no interest in talking. ... oh, and I just got the next invoice. There's no credit for their missed pickup. read more

I would recommend Republic Services. We have been using them for the past three years since we moved here and are satisfied. Sure, we had a few issues during setup and it took a few tries to get resolved.I just looked them up and saw they had poor reviews.People get disappointed because they would have had some issue and jump too quickly to write bad reviews. They are a large trash collection agency and getting word down from their customer service to management and down to the worker who actually does things may take some time to be resolved but they are a good outfit and would recommend. Their trucks are always on schedule and offer great service in my opinion. read more

I have been a customer for four years. In Feb. they changed to one day a week for trash pickup, with recycling on Monday. The first trash pickup was supposed to be on March 6. They didn't pick up, so I called. They said that they would pick up on March 10. When they hadn't picked up by 3:00pm, I called, and they said that it would be picked up by 5:00. They also said that they would take calls until 6:00. The website says at they are open till 6:00. I called at 5:30 and got the office closed message. There has been no trash pickup for two weeks. This is inexcusable. I will call tomorrow morning, and will start looking for another trash company. read more

I just got off the phone requesting information on my trash pick up status. Unfortunately no one was able to give a straight answer or explanation as to why my missed pick up from Tuesday still had not been picked up by Friday despite daily phone calls. Each day the customer service had a different response promising it would be escalated and brought to the attention of the local manager. When I asked for a supervisor, I was transferred to Ron, who was neither apologetic nor sympathetic about my lousy treatment by this company. I asked for his supervisor and was on hold for a long time. When I was finally put in touch with a human, she informed me Ron was at the top of the ladder and she couldn't understand why I was telling her my frustration. We ordered a 2nd recyling bin. They delivered the wrong bin (trash can) and didn't pick it up on recycle day. I called to complain and they sent someone to pick it up. I asked them if they had delivered me the wrong can and suggested maybe they should switch it out - and they said no, and that moving forward it should be fine. They then did not pick up the can for the rest of the month either. So when I called customer service again to figure it out, they saw that the wrong can WAS delivered. I politely asked for a refund for one month's services on the one recycling bin (just a few bucks) and the customer service rep got a little rude with me and argued with me. I'm thinking of switching to the other company now. read more

Filed a complaint and was told I'd be contacted for follow up. Never happened. It's been a month and they still have not returned my yard waste container they are charging me extra for. Sometimes it takes multiple calls to get a promised response. To top it off their rates have risen at an alarming rate over the last 7 years. I'll be looking into other options. read more

Terrible Customer Service and inconsistent trash collection. I will NEVER RECOMMEND the company. My entire neighborhood had all accounts closed. Five calls to Republic came up empty as they couldn't tell me why? Republic scheduled pickup of bins and never informed customers. Republic mailed a letter to all their customers in my neighborhood and had no record of it or explanation for what it meant. I will never use this company again. If I could give them a zero, I would. I was a Republic Services Customer for 5 years and it was a constant fight over my quarterly bill. No matter what low price plan they offer you up front (or renegotiated price...and trust, me you will have to) it will always rise every quarter. Especially devious is their haphazard and fictitious use of their environmental fuel charge to raise your bill above your contract price. Case in point, when gas prices dropped from $4 to $2 per gallon, Republic Services doubled or trippled their fuel fee. You do the math. Bottom line, this is a shady company that uses questionable tactics to sucker the American consumer. Just save yourself the trouble, go with a different company to start with. read more

I recently moved to the Manassas area and the home I purchased had AAA before so I decided to contact them not knowing that Republic Services would be the one to be providing the service. I signed up with them mid-October and cancelled with them at the end of November. Within that time they came to pick up my trash TWICE! After I would call them daily to report the missed trash. Worst responses ever, customer service in North Carolina would inform me that they would contact operations in my area and that never happened. I am still waiting for them to pick up their trash bins which are full of trash because they never came the last day to pick up the trash. I am relocating to a new place so I called and cancelled my service in OCTOBER. This was almost 2 months before my next billing date. I also TURNED OFF auto pay this same day. Yet I still got charged $170 this month (December). How did they charge my credit card when my online account says that auto pay is turned off? Why did the woman I talked to not close my account? AND WHY DOES IT COST $110 for them to remove their own trash can?! Apparently its only $65 if you just keep it. These guys suck and I would avoid using them at all cost or you will lose a lot of money. read more

Our family has called several times to report that our trash has not been picked up. This has been happening for months and there is magically NO record of all our calls. On top of that, when we said we would cancel the service, they wanted to charge a fee of $32 to remove the trash can. I would give them a negative 10 stars if that was an option. It was so bad that I had to go to the office and complain and still nothing was done. All I was requesting was for a new trash can to be delivered to my home because the trash man damaged the old one. I literally made about 10 calls and they kept saying a new one would be delivered and the old one would be removed. Each time I called I had to wait on hold for 30-60 minutes. Since this did not occur I went to the office and I would have brought the old trash can with me if it fit in my car. The people said they would assist me but I never received my new trash can and I just quit the service. They kept raising their rates and the customer service is absolutely horrible. We have been with Republic in Fairfax, Va. since they were AAA - more than 30 years. Service used to be impeccable. Now, they have cut their 2x weekly pickup to once weekly and "credit" of (an, oh so generous) $6.00 - if you're lucky. After complaining about a $6 cut for half the service, I managed to get them to $145 a quarter vs $192 per quarter. (a neighbor only pays $110 a quarter). However, the bill came in at $180 after several missed pickups. Now, even though the website says they are open, they are not and I can't call to get a pick up or my bill fixed. I don't know what has happened to this company, but someone with some customer service experience and expertise needs to take over this business before they lose all their customers. read more

If a zero star was available that would be my rating. Granted, with Christmas and New Years falling on my trash collection day, this was not an issue. HOWEVER, recycling pick up was the next day. I had the recycling out the night before, it was not picked up. I called and the person I spoke to said she would contact dispatch and have the recycling picked up by 4 pm. That did not happen. I called again the next morning and told I was scheduled for a pick up today, Thursday. It got to be 11:30 am and I called again. I was told there was a yellow box on my file which was a modification to pick up the recycling today Thursday. It's now 5:32 pm, Thursday still no pickup. You cannot believe anything the charming, polite and friendly person tells you on the phone. This is not the first time they either did not pickup my trash or recycling. They cannot wait to raise my rates by up to $3.50 a month. We should receive refunds for non-service. 3 phone calls = no service. Management, you need to get on top of your dispatchers. Now I understand why you have a 1 star review in 99% of your reviews. I'm sorry I left American Disposal out of Manassas Virginia. It may cost a little more but they actually provide excellent service. read more
