Republic Services' acceptable service ended when I signed up for their trash pickup. My experience has declined sharply since then, especially regarding getting assistance. Everytime, you call, be prepared to wait a minimum of 30 minutes. I am officially canceling my services with them and switching to another company. 1. BIN SIZE: Compared to competitors in the area, the bins, specifically recycle, are a fraction of the size. 2. PRICE: We paid Republic approximately $200 per quarter for over 3 years (possibly more as I don't have records further back). The competitor is coming in at $100 per quarter for 1 year and then $120 after that. WOW! I save $400 year 1 and $320 each subsequent year. 3. RECYCLE: Republic no longer picks up glass in our area. Competitors do. 4. PICK-UP DAYS: Republic requires trash on one day and recycle on another making such that we have bins on the street multiple days a week. Competitors offer pick up on the same day reducing clutter and the inconvenience of hauling bins on multiple days. 5. CUSTOMER SERVICE: I've been on hold over 1 hour multiple times to talk to a person. Competitors offer a human on initial answer or after menu selections. Republic does not invest in existing customers nor their concerns. 6. WEBSITE: The website does not support the same functionality as calling customer service. For example, we were not able to cancel our service nor change the service in my name. We had to talk to a rep which took multiple attempts and multiple hours (yes hours) on the phone. 7. QUESTIONABLE PRACTICES: To change the account from my husband's name to my name we had to cancel and restart service which cost a fee. When we cancelled the services, we were charged a $25 fee to pick up the bins. 8. COMPLIMENTS: CS Team is friendly. Trash & Recycle pick up is as reliable as others I've had experience with, so they offer average service. SUMMARY: Double the price for 1/2 the service with no investment in existing customers and questionable business practices. read more

We just moved to Fairfax and this is one of the services that we considered. I'm glad we did not pick them. The previous owners of the house had them and Republic was supposed to do the last trash pick up at our house today and also take away their old bins. They didn't collect the trash today and they have not picked up their containers There are also other bins in our cul-de-sac that the neighbors said have been sitting there for months waiting for a Republic to come reclaim them when they switched to a new company. Plus, they are the only one of the three providers we looked at that don't pick up trash, recycling and yard debris all in the same day. read more

Price per quarter went way up. Called June 20 to cancel service and the associate said to be sure to cancel auto-pay right away. I did this as soon as we hung up - sure enough on 7/10 they drafted from my bank. I have called 3 times about my refund. This 3rd time I was told they couldn't refund via ach since it is connected to a checking account as opposed to a credit card. Absolutely incompetent. I've been in my house 6 months and have had 5-6 missed pickups already. They have such poor management they don't even know if their employees are running their routes or not and rely on customers to do their jobs for them. In reading the other reviews, I can see that this is nothing new for Republic Services. Recycling pickup this morning, truck #1072. Driver dropped a bottle out of a tote and it broke in the street. Driver picked up some of the bigger pieces and left the rest in the road. Customer service response "we don't pickup glass, so it's not our problem." No care the they just left a bunch of broken glass in the street, no concern that they actually broke the bottle in the street, "not our problem!" Left 1 star as zero was not an option! I thought this mess was finally resolved when I saw a check in the mail today for a refund for my account. NOPE! I was told (three times) that I'd be receiving a refund for $111.44 and got a check for $23.50. Soooo, looks like I'm still going to be trying to get this sorted-out. It's no easier getting help from them than when I had my account active. ONLY after I left my original negative Yelp review did I ever hear from anyone from Republic Services. I switched trash companies mid month and was told that I didn't owe anything because I had prepaid for the month. If anything, I should have received a partial refund. Instead, Republic has been demanding that I pay $44 to pick up their own trash receptacles. I refused and have been receiving letters threatening my credit rating. This is a lousy company. read more

They are horrible. They have told us twice now that they delivered a recycling container to our shopping center and they started charging us. It was never delivered and Fairfax County is after us to have one installed and I keep telling them it is installed and they go out and let me know there is still no container. I called and cancelled my service when I found out i was being moved out out of state for work. To make it worse, they also sent me to collections for trash services that I cancelled over 10 months ago. Oh, and don't start me on the garbage can. When i cancelled my service due to my military move, they (Republics) said they would be there the next day to get my cans. Well, they waited 2 additional months to pick up my cans and sent me another bill 2 weeks ago for 300 dollars to cover the cost of their cans. If I could rate less than one star I would. They have missed picking up and when I would call they would promise a scheduled pick up to not pick up. We put our trash and recycling out the night before every time, so as not to miss our pick up. There's no reason why my trash should go weeks without being picked up. Our bill is paid on time so our trash should be picked up on time. It's very unsanitary when animals and bugs come out bc of trash sitting outside for such long periods of time. This is by far the worst trash service We've ever dealt with. after paying our bill on Autopay since we purchased our property in 2014, they mail me a bill for over $500. When I asked to see documentation, the bill magically went down to $288 and showed to be from 2001, an entire 13 years before we bought the property FREE AND CLEAR. When I explained this and sent records of all my monthly payments since 2014, I was ignored and sent a bill for over $340. When I contacted them again, it went down to $185 and came with the threat of sending me to collection. A few days ago, they sent me a service suspension letter. I contacted a new service and when I called Republic to cancel my account, they said accounts could ONLY be terminated the through certified mail! I've used this service for many years and found them to be efficient and fairly priced for their services. Customer service is responsive and the trash handlers were friendly, and fast to pick up dropped trash around the neighborhood. Pretty obvious bye all of the negative reviews that you should stay away from Republic services. Continuously missing pickups and no resolution on credits when they're due. Since they were bought out by Republic it has been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster. I will be fair and say the weekly service has generally been good, I can't remember Republic missing a trash pickup. My issue is with the billing and continuous invoicing after I canceled my services. I called in September to cancel my service starting in November, as their pricing is the highest in my area this year. I still had to pay for an additional month of pickups in November, which I did not want or agree to and today was charged $58 for Container Pickup. I recently found out I was being charged $200.00 more a quarter than my next door neighbor who has the same containers and same pickup dates ... I have cancelled my services since I found a new waste pickup provider ... I have tried to get Republic to do right by at least not charge me for picking up my garbage and recycle container and they refuse to work with me ... they say it's a vendor that is not associated with Republic .. Finally got a pick up on 9/24 of yard waste but again no pick up this week and no garbage pick up. If they cannot reliably service what they promise because of staffing shortages why do I continue to get charged full price? If you can't do the work, you don't get paid - that's true of my job. Routinely miss scheduled pick ups. When you contact them to address the issue, they will ignore their emergency line and the fastest response you can hope for is two business days. **Pick up scheduled for following Monday was missed also, even after spending day exchanging emails with Republic. **Emailed the email in comment posted on response to this review, they could not help. read more

Terrible Customer Service. We have had yard waste sitting on the curb 9 days after scheduled pickup. We have called everyday since Wednesday, and they say we will pick it up today, again and again. What the hell is so hard about picking up yard waste when it is in the appropriate brown bags for recycling. These bags get wet after sitting outside more than a couple of days. They have been by here to pick up the trash twice and once for the recycling. I work retail for a large company ,approximately 23,000 staffers. I have direct contact with the public daily. I'm a Republic customer of several years and I'd say they're usually a perfectly fine company and service, but FOR THE LAST YEAR they have usually missed my recycling which is scheduled for Wednesday and I have to waste 10 mins calling them. Their ridiculously inflexible and unresponsive chat-bot on their page is a complete waste of time. If I could get ahold of a manager and kick their ass once, I think it wouldn't happen again. Now, I want to add that 4-5 years ago I actually had a great conversation with a RS manager about their switch from twice a week to once a week pickup. They didn't pick up recycling today but left a sheet with instructions (when we bought and moved in here I asked for information to be sent to me and they told me they had nothing to send. I told to office we were new and asked for a recycle bin. She said $50. Obviously Spring Hill Florida doesn't want to recycle. I moved from Pasco County. Please talk to the driver of truck 2402 about idling in the Greenbrier neighborhood for an hour almost every Wednesday. Greenbrier does not have Wednesday service and we are right next to the shopping center where the driver can park; there's no reason to be idling a diesel engine for hours at a time when you aren't collecting. read more
