Reserve America was the only way to reserve a campsite for Burlingame State Park. After finally getting my reservation set up, it was trying to automatically charge me an annual fee, though very subtly. When I read the fine print and discovered this, the only way to avoid it was to hit decline. "Decline" turned out to be even smaller text that was barely a shade darker than the white background, and it took me ages to find. I hate to think of someone not reading the fine print and just hitting "Accept", only to be robbed of a lot of money and not even know. read more

The reserveamerica.com site is one of the worst user experiences that I've ever had on the internet - even worse than many gov't sites. I try to get campsites every year at Lake George in New York. It's such a demoralizing process, clicking over and over again in multiple browsers only to be told at 9:00:01 that "inventory not available." And then there's the insult of having to move their stupid ads out of the way, plus having to click into the same campground every single day for a whole month, 9 months in advance, just to get a campsite for a single week next summer. One more time this company disappoints me but this time is even worse because they took me to the cleaners.. I had previously made 3 reservations for the winter and it turns out they collected the money but lost the contract with the Florida State Parks and they did not transfer all the information. I will have to dispute the charges but I am stuck without reservations for 7 days out of the 45 days I had made through them. The system stinks three times been camping. The majority of the water sites are empty. You go to the booth and they tell you oh no they're all reserved. The people just decided not to come. Why don't they make it mandatory that if you reserve a site. You have to put a tent or a camper on it within a couple of days. When i called the number on the "contact us" they gave me another number. When i called that one it was closed. Early i may add. When i got through on Monday they wouldn't refund the full amount or offer anything for the trouble they had on their part. I've had to use Reserve America a couple times in the past year. Both times the experience was identical, and in both instances IT SUCKED. In each, I found a specific campsite in campgrounds which use Reserve America for its reservations. Each time I selected the campsite then Reserve America would step in and ruin the experience. When attempting to log in to RA, I'd get a message saying I needed to change my password (because they're so secure and stuff). Then after that ridiculous dance it would tell me the campsite isn't available. And why isn't it available? Because it's being held for me on the reservation I started before RA wanted me to change my password. The developers of RA should be forced to make several reservations using their own pile of garbage system so that they too can enjoy the profound frustration caused by this piece of crap code. But for now, I have to wait for Reserve America to release the campsite they're holding for me on the reservation I initially attempted, at which point I can try again. RA, please go out of business and make way for somebody who knows WTF they're doing. Because you clearly do not. read more

This is what the failure of a near-monopoly looks like. Their fees are ridiculous. And to be honest, even if I did not mind the costs, looking for camping though RA is almost criminally bad. Search is horrible, and I have no ability to keep persistent filters or set up a profile. It is like they set up their website functionality back in early 2000, and then just sort of walked away from design. If by some chance anyone from reserve America is reading this, please add more filters. Anytime I search for a site, I am searching for electric, water, whether there is a beach or a pool, etc.. Your design makes this virtually impossible to search across a whole region this way. Please do better. read more

This (cpwshop.com) has to be one of the most archaic, user-unfriendly, and convoluted websites I've encountered in years. It uses a reCAPTCHA system that most sites abandoned a decade ago, and it assaults you on every screen, even when you're logged in--completely idiotic! The links are practically inaccessible because the morons who developed this site decided to use JavaScript for them, making it impossible to open links on your terms. And then there are the ghost "R" campsites--marked as already reserved when you try to edit your reservation but magically "available" when booking as a new reservation. The map is basically unusable, lacking even the most basic functionality that a 14-year-old could script. You can't even click on the sites to reserve them! The long list of poorly designed and malfunctioning features could go on, but it all perfectly showcases the worst of bureaucracy--a horrific waste of tax dollars on whatever incompetent company designed this piece of garbage. read more

went to book a site at said campground to find only 1 campsite available. ok maybe they filled up.? made reservations and then checked again to see if any were available for same dates, and now there are tons of sites available. I didn't get a choice when I booked the first visit. they make it look like sites are limited when in reality they are far from being sold out. this happened before...I reserved a campsite and only a couple were available but while staying at the campground there were tons of sites that were empty for our whole stay. very misleading practice. read more

I had to use reserveAmerica because that's where I was rerouted when making state park reservations. I didn't like doing this, but I did so and had to pay $7+ for each of my seven reservations for a five-month trip. My trip is in three months, and I'm just checking my dates and locations and mapping things out, and every single one of my reservations is gone from my account. I would give them 0 stars if I could. Just made a reservation less than 2 hours ago and I selected the days to be between 5/26-5/28/18. It popped up with what was available which was the Ramada Campground and I made the reservation. I get the confirmation email which was only stating for 1 day. I call to see what was going on and they said it was just a day use and not an over-night camping and if I wanted to cancel it would be 2 separate charges of $7.99 and if I wanted to modify it, it would be $7.99. Was told to call the campsite directly to see if they we're willing to help and I've called over 8 times and no one is answering and the voicemail doesn't even state a business name. I've made reservations before with them, but obviously I NEVER will again. They are a bunch of crooks, not upfront and I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

I cannot explain how difficult this company makes creating a reservation for a simple camping trip. I have never experienced a more difficult reservation process in my life. Over the past four days, I have spent well over 4 hours trying to set up a weekend for four campsites... It's unbelievable. The site was down for part of it. The site would somehow misinterpret the dates I was asking to stay and wouldn't allow it as a result. I was given the wrong information about the time I was able to book (it is midnight six months to the day...) and as a result, I wasn't able to book for the weekend I wanted to. Finally, I had to get up at 12 in the morning to try to make these reservations and the website was down, so I had to get up again at 1 to attempt them... While the people who answered calls were helpful, the system is just terrible. I hope the parks system considers using a different service. read more

This group is totally unbelievable. Just TRY and cancel your reservation and you will be on hold until doomsday. IF you finally get a hold of a reservation agent they will be from ANOTHER COUNTRY! I love the irony in that "Reserve America" is run by F**king people from another country! Cancellation charge is one night plus transaction fee and cancellation fee. On the recording the cancellation fee is quoted as one amount but they charge you double. THEN the one night camping fee is quoted higher because they claim you are out of town (which we were not) then there was the mysterious charge of $15...for God's sake how can we get this organization fired!!! I'd encourage anyone else to do what I did: contact your state representatives and ask them to stop using ReserveAmerica in your state parks. I had to pay a $7.75 reservation fee on a $15 campsite reservation. When there was a problem with the campsite, the Reserve America phone number state it was after hours and their was no way to switch sites online. This from a private company that boasts of managing sites of "75% of the state-governed park, recreational, natural and historic areas in the U.S."? Crazy ripoff! Just spent the better part of an hour searching for camp sites around the Chicago/WI area. It seems like every camp ground uses Reserve America to book their campgrounds. This was fine with me until I saw the almost TEN DOLLAR reservation fee. ARE YOU KIDDING!? Multiply every camp sight in every US state that uses this service by every weekend/weekday the sights are booked by $10. We booked 5 nights with Reserve America (the state of Califorinia's contract provider. You MUST use them for reservations). They told us that all the parks were basically the same. We had asked for a pull through and full hook-ups and Reserve America told us Doheny was what we wanted. When we got there, not only was our place a back in spot, the whole park is dry - no hook-ups at all. The girl at the kiosk told us it wasn't her problem and that we would have to contact Reserve America. We asked for a Ranger and Officer Martin Flores came. He was very helpful and took us to San Clemente State park, where we had everything we needed. The next day we went to the head office and met with Sgt. Dave, who worked it out to let us stay in San Clemente. It's a nice park, and the Rangers are great. Beware of Reserve America! read more

Used them to reserve a campsite at San Onofre State Beach in California and when I arrived found out that the map on the Reserve America website was outdated. The campsite number I reserved turned out to be an RV only site in the middle of a loop, whereas the website showed it to be a tent site at the end of the loop. When we tried to change campsites with the ranger we were told that Reserve America prevents them from changing sites once the campers have checked in. Then when I contacted the company to let them know their map was old, they didn't even respond. Also turns out that while the website made it look like there were very few available spots, there were plenty of unbooked sites. This makes it look like you have to make a reservation when you could really show up and get a site without paying the reservation fee. I would seriously avoid making reservations with this site. read more

ZERO customer service. An employee messed up our Yosemite camping reservations and made no attempt to correct or offer a solution. This happened TWICE this summer. We called in January to make JUNE reservations. It seems like they would have plenty of time to correct their errors, but they did not. It disappoints me that Reserve America has become (in most cases) the only reservation liaison to utilize our nations glorious campgrounds. Various Federal & State parks outsource reservations to this company and they charge us $8 or more per reservation for the use of their web site, . When there is a problem with the reservation or camp site, the various park agents instruct you to contact Reserve America. . .and this is where the nonsense begins. Their agents are useless in any resolution and only advise you to contact the park ranger / docent or anybody EXCEPT themselves. Reserve America takes the American ideal of non-discrimination to its most logical conclusion. Not only do they prohibit employee discrimination on the basis of race, creed and religion, but carry this further to not discriminate on the basis of intelligence, communication skills and ability. The Federal and State agencies outsourcing to this gang of morons should be ashamed of themselves for defrauding we tax-payers. This service has always been mediocre, but has become absolutely unusable since Aspira took over and website was changed in 2018. Now the "legacy site" isnt available either. I didnt mind so much that I had to pay for their service, but theyve really made it impossible to find what I want. There is no way at all to search by campsite, only by date. So if your vacation dates are flexible you cant search to see when your favorite site is available. It is overall unusable and what has always been a hideous monopoly on gov campgrounds has become even worse. They know they will sell out regardless, and they DONT CARE About ANYTHING. Their phone reservation people used to be very good but I bet thats changed too. Hideous abusive monopoly leaving no recourse except to write government DEC people and I dont have much hope for that but Im going to. read more

Try finding a phone number?? Long process. We just stayed on a handicap site at Starved Rock State Park, Illinois. It was a great site so we were planning a future trip and I tried several ways to book the same site. All to no avail. None of the handicap sites are reservable???? Great way to treat a handicapped person. I have been charged for trying to correct a mistake on their website when it shifted me to the wrong date. I gave them a 2star because I haven't had issues reserving a campsite. I gave them a 2star because after my last reservation, I was enrolled into a 30day trial to 'active.com' that I was not aware of, until I got $64.95 charge on my credit card for a full years renewal. I now have to call active.com and try to get a refund (I called once and it said wait time is 20minutes). Otherwise I will call Discover card to dispute it as I was tricked into this with some fine print (I assume). Neither my wife nor I saw it, we did two reservations concurrently, and there are two charges from active.com So beware. You can call and cancel, or do a forgot password, login and turn off the renewal, we were just too late in figuring out what active.com was or that we had accounts and reserveamerica already passed our credit card info !! read more

I would give them a zero or negative number if I could. I wasn't told by the reservations person about the $7.99 cancellation fee in addition to the $7.99 reservation fee. So out of the $43 I was charged I got $27 back. Originally, I thought they were better than the old reservation system. Obviously, I was wrong. If there was another website to make a reservation I would have used that system. Maybe it is time to try some private campgrounds.
