The animals are well cared for and when you walk the grounds you can tell the farm is organized and properly run. My son had a blast watching the sheep grazing on the hill, the flock of geese marching around with the lead goose barking orders, the cute farm dog (boxer) and the hen house complete with a rooster crowing and guarding his peeps! The market has tons of different types of meats so bring a cooler and load up! The grounds are extensive so we didn't get to see the other animals. Meat wise you can taste the difference and although it's pricey you get what you pay for! Awesome stop if your in the area.

All of which are USDA certified organic and are far superior to anything that you would find elsewhere. Pam is extremely pleasant to deal with and has a background as a nutritionist and started her farm to grow the best organic food possible after seeing that people were becoming sick after a lifetime of poor nutrition. She also posts recipes on her website which we found to be very helpful. They had a kitchen fire a few years ago, shut down for a year, and completely rebuilt the store/café. It's beautiful, and you can get great baked goods including their famous cider donuts and a variety of coffee/beverages at the counter and sit comfortably in the cafe. They greatly reduced the kitchen space and don't make full meals in house. The cidery/brewery downstairs is still a great place to hang out but you'll only be able to get a few mostly app type food items. The main place to eat is now up the hill where Defazios runs a pizza counter. There's also a beautiful catering space overlooking the Helderbergs where we held a 40th anniversary party. Defazios provides full catering there, from their wonderful main restaurant menu. Indian Ladder provides beverage service, offering theirs and other NYS beer, wine and cider.

Something else to note is that when we arrived, they were setting up for Oktoberfest, so if you don't have any plans for Oktoberfest next year this would be an exceptional venue to share in the celebration. I have to say that it is a little pricy, much more expensive than I remember but we are living in different times now. We purchased one of the warm peach pies and it was exquisite. I even had a piece with my breakfast the next morning, I couldn't get enough, but it was about $25. Three donuts and two coffees cost us $17.55, which is a bit overkill but we wanted to enjoy in the moment. We also purchased a jar of peach jelly Togo and that was about $8. This is a great place to take a friend or date in the afternoon or for an event. There are several walking trails available and the property is gorgeous as you have a great view of the Catskill Mountains. There are several places where you can just sit around and chat for a while and they have their own pub and eatery under the main store. Additionally, there are some livestock chilling on the property and a small petting area where the kids can feed goats, chickens and any other creature wandering around. I was amazed that one person can handle almost 5 acres of land in sometimes harsh weather conditions and consistently produce great varieties of different fruits, vegetables and even unique decorative flowers, that you won't be able to see in citi's flowers shops. Another positive aspect is that Chris does NOT grow any GMO crops, which is a rarity now. Almost 98% of corn in USA is genetically modified and full of pesticides and Monsanto Round-up herbicides, and it's becoming increasingly hard to find good Organic Farmers who think about the environment and people that consume their produce, and Chris is definitely one of them. Overall I would highly suggest to come and visit this Beautiful Farm, bring your kids to see how fruits and veggies are grown, and buy some fresh produce right from the field.

The counter had pies, turnovers, and cookies on display, but we came with a mission: secure a cider donut. It's so refreshing to see donuts sold at a reasonable price. For $1.35, these were a steal compared to the $6 ones sold in the city. (Yes, $6 for a single!) The donuts, which were still warm when we had them, were generously coated with cinnamon sugar.
