We checked into room 405 for 2 nights. Check in was easy and quick. There were many free parking spots in front of the hotel. We had an apartment with a king size bed, full kitchen, large desk, and sofa bed. Funny, we were told that we would be charged for water. We had a view of a field and streets; we heard what sounded like cars without mufflers, racing throughout the night. The bed was high off the ground and comfortable. The air conditioning worked better on one side of the room. It wasn't cool over our bed. During the night the AC went off, we were woken up by the heat & marijuana. I started by putting in 2 loads in the coin operated laundry room. The laundry machines worked well. There was an indoor pool, fitness room and outdoor sitting room with a grill. The ventilation in the gym was poor. There was no signage that this is a smoke free property, but we were told it was. There was a strong marijuana smell in the hallways that came into our room. We were able to avoid the halls by walking the steps. There was a colorful cast of characters staying here! There was a complimentary buffet breakfast every morning in the lobby. It was the standard breakfast with a waffle maker, eggs, cereals, bacon, oatmeal, juice... Two women worked hard, refreshing the food and keeping the breakfast area refreshed & clean. read more

Wonderful accommodations- clean comfortable room, sparkling facilities and grounds and welcoming to dogs(though the dog fee is a hefty $100). There is a breakfast buffet with the normal make-your-own waffles, cereal,yogurt with toppings and breads as well as eggs and sausages. The best part of this hotel though might just be Rhonda. She is part of the breakfast crew and is a cheerful welcoming face in the morning- even at 5 am. read more

Stayed for 5 days early this month. Very large rooms with the normal Residence Inn amenities- complimentary Wifi/LAN, full size refrigerator, sofa, microwave oven/stove top, parking, hot breakfast, and fitness center/pool. Although Residence Inns are my favorite hotel chain, what really set it apart from others is their manager's socials Monday - Wednesday: Monday - Italian pasta, salad, ziti w/red sauce, minestrone soup Tuesday - Grill with hotdogs, hamburgers, salad, and chips Wednesday - Just desserts. Fruits, marshmallows that could be dipped in white or dark chocolate I found several great walking routes around the hotel from 3 - 5 miles. Very enjoyable, I would come back and stay at this Residence Inn in a New York minute! I look forward to my next Springfield trip! Highly recommend and repeat! read more

I stayed a lengthy stay and have no complaints. I've stayed at other RI's and their breakfast was not good. However, I really enjoyed the breakfast and variety in options they offered here. The staff was always friendly and helpful. While here for work, I made use of the printer and computers and they worked well. They offer an outdoor patio area with string lights and a welcoming lobby to spend time in. The room was clean upon arrival but my window was open so that was strange. My unit included a full kitchen with an oven. Housekeeping depended on the day and who was working but that's to be expected. There are several chain restaurants in walking distance. I would definitely stay here again. The staff was awesome! read more

My family and I stayed here overnight while we visited the town. I'm very picky about hotels, as cleanliness and the condition of the hotel room are MAJOR concerns for me. I readily admit to being a germaphobe. I'm glad to say the Residence Inn Springfield South met all of our needs. When we checked in, we met Ken (one of the hotel representatives) and he was great. He and the other hotel employees went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. Our room was on the second floor, reasonably near the elevator. We had a King bed room with a double sofa bed. The room was clean and very nice. We didn't realize that Residence Inns provide so many amenities of home, so when we saw the full-sized refrigerator, the large microwave, the two-burner cooktop and the dishwasher, we were pleasantly surprised. There were even dishes in the cabinets and silverware in the drawers, in addition to a small dining table with condiments. The hotel offers a free full breakfast in the mornings. The breakfast includes your typical eggs and sausage (or chicken sausage if you prefer), as well as biscuits and gravy. There is fresh fruit, two brands of yogurt, three types of cereals, a waffle maker, bagels, etc. The best part are the juice options, which include apple, orange, and a delicious strawberry-kiwi blend that I would take a gallon of if I could! The hotel itself is near the other hotels in town, as well as several restaurants. It's also not far from many of the historic sites downtown (if you are traveling by automobile -- it is definitely not a walkable distance). Overall, this was a great choice for us. The AC wasn't working properly. We think the filter hadn't been changed in 20 years. The bed squeaked some when you moved but it was comfortable. The bathtub is very slick so be careful. I had to use the business center for some unexpected work and the internet was very slow. I probably should just learn to use my tablet. The breakfast was typical. It was also clean. read more

The front desk staff and the kitchen staff are amazing. Very friendly and helpful. We were there for a family birthday, and they did everything they could to make us feel at home. They had a very friendly staff at check in when we arrived. I loved pulling up that night and seeing a father and son playing basketball on their court outside - it certainly made it feel more like a home than a hotel. The room was spacious and felt comfy and the shower head was upgraded which was very nice. As far as amenities go, the breakfast was good and the fitness room was nice. We had confirmation number, however receptionist was unable to find it in their system and refused to help in any way as it's not his fault. Recently, we spent the weekend with 22 family members ranging in age of 8 months to over 80 years. I'm sure a group of this size must have put extra pressure on the management and staff, but they handled it professionally and showed no signs of stress to us. We were treated great by each staff person we encountered as they went above and beyond the call of duty to help make our stay great. Our room was spotlessly clean and roomy. The breakfast bar was awesome. Very clean and organized and the food was hot and delicious. We hope to make this outing a yearly event and I'm sure we will be staying here at the Residence Inn again. read more

Even though we had some serious housekeeping issues, I will give this hotel five stars. This is our first experience with a Residence Inn, and overall it was extremely positive. We'll almost certainly stay at Residence Inns whenever possible in the future. We appreciated the size of the room, and all of the outlets, since we are rather techie people. We love the full-size refrigerator, comfortable seating options, and the tables and work desk. We didn't use the stove, but that will be a nice feature for us in the future. The breakfast options are good, but a little more variety on the hot items from day to day would be nice. Hampton does a better job there. The staff here is very friendly, and we felt like we were part of the family. Highly recommend. read more

Wow. Where to begin. Do I start with the employee who said my dogs were ugly right in front of me? Do I start with the fact that they were "out" of rooms when we arrived (despite having made reservations 2 weeks ago), and then tried to give us a severely downgraded room? Do I start with all the broken stuff in our room (the window shade, the light switch, THE DOOR, I could go on ...) and the fact THAT THEY NEVER FIXED ANY OF IT, even though we repeatedly called and called and called?! Or how about the fact that the room couch was wet when we arrived (wtf, honestly)? I'm traveling with my dad. Both of us are Marriott Gold level members. I've stayed in at least 30 different Marriotts in the past 3 years. He's stayed in even more than me (we travel a lot for work). This was the absolute worst Marriott I've ever stayed in. This is a newer Marriott building and it's decorated well. The morning breakfast buffet was pretty good. It's in a location with lots of food options. It's not far from the historic downtown. That's all the good I can think of to say. Worst Marriott stay ever. I'm sad that we spent money on this place. Stayed for two nights. Never again. read more

We paid for a large suite so my mother in law could stay with us. We arrived the day of our reservation after a long trip with two small children and our room was not ready. They made us wait an hour ( till 9pm) to check in our room, which was very poorly cleaned ( there was pubic hair in the shower and dirty towels)!!!! The pool had so many chemicals in it my eyes burned from sitting outside watching my children. I also had asked the receptionist if the pool and hot tub were operational when booking 24 hours prior and he assured me is was. However the hot tub was out of order. I normally do not write bad reviews on Yelp unless it was a horrible experience ( the last bad review I gave was years ago... This was a terrible experience! Even the staff and manager were not helpful and fairly rude I would not recommend staying here there are plenty of hotel in the area our next stay we went to the Hilton Garden just down the road. read more

Lodged at this hotel for a couple of days. The hotel is great, however the experience was "A-OK." As a Marriott Platinum Premier Elite member, FREE room upgrades are generally a non-issue providing there are room upgrades available. The front desk staff and management advised that upgrades are available at an additional cost regardless of rewards elite status. I travel across the country often for business. I have never stayed at a Marriott property (non vacation club) hotel which charged their platinum or platinum premier guest an additional fee for a room upgrade. I'd rather drive 45 miles and stay at the Marriott in Normal, IL than to stay at this hotel. read more

We stayed 2 nights at the Residence Inn Springfield South. My husband and I came to see the historical things in and near Springfield. Overall our stay was great. The staff was extremely friendly and responsive. When we first checked in the room had an extremely loud air conditioner. They moved us to another room which honestly was not much quieter but at least it was a steady noise. There was a light burned out. I mentioned the light when we went to dinner and when we came back there was a new light. I am guessing all the rooms have loud air conditioners because they did have someone look at it and it was still loud. If you do not like loud fan noises you might not like this hotel. The room was very nice. We had a King bed studio suite. It has more SF than a standard hotel room and the bed is off in an alcove which makes it out of the way. It has a very nice sitting area that is more like a living room. The TV was big and swiveled so you could view it in the bedroom or the living room. It had a nicely appointed kitchen. Overall the room was clean but the bathroom needed some maintenance. Generally they just need to re-caulk, plus clean and seal the grout. The way it is, it catches dirt and I am not sure how much cleaner the cleaning people could get it. The thing is that the dirty corners and caulk make it seem like the room was not cleaned. This needs to be fixed if you want to get a five star review. The breakfast was great. I love that they have a hot breakfast with eggs and a meat choice. They also had strawberries and other fruit and the usual waffles etc. The only thing I would suggest is that they should not serve the same thing two days in a row. They had eggs and sausage patties both Friday and Saturday night and it would have been nice had they changed it up a bit. Still it was good and free. One other thing that I think especially now should be changed. They have TVs in the breakfast area, and both days they were tuned in to FOX news. One day someone else asked them to change it which I was thankful for. That show is so polarizing I am not sure why a hotel would put it on. To me the TV should be tuned in to a local TV station or weather or something else that is not going to upset people while they are eating breakfast. The hotel takes pets, and while we did not bring out dog, I saw several dogs but did not hear any barking or anything. I would consider bringing my dog sometime if we returned. The last night of our stay we spent some time in the room in the afternoon and for several hours there were children obviously running and jumping in the room above us. It is really not a good idea to put people with little kids on the top floor especially right above a room with a couple traveling without kids. I know other hotels put kids on the bottom floor and this is for good reason. No matter how well behaved kids appear you never know how they will act when they are above you. Next time we will ask for the top floor to avoid this. There were a couple restaurants nearby where we had dinner. Smokey Bones is right down the street and they give a 10% discount to people staying in the hotel. We also ate at the Char House which was excellent. I know it seems like I mentioned a lot of negative things but overall, the rooms were great, beds comfy and staff was great. I am sure had I mentioned some of them during the stay they would have done something. The only thing they really can not fix easily is the loud fan with the air conditioning system. I stay at a number of Courtyard & Residence Inn Marriotts across the country. I know what the average is, and I can say this particular Residence Inn surpasses it by leaps and bounds. I think what makes it stand out is that management doesn't go through the motions, they actually execute. Take for instance the Tue-Thu social hours where they provide a buffet meal and beer/wine. At almost every other location, I've seen people attend but not enthusiastically. But here the food is actually quite good and filling, and they're not skimpy with the good vino! The patio is actually an enjoyable and comfortable place to relax outdoors. In addition to a large indoor swimming pool, there is a small basketball court outside. The lobby is large with a high ceiling and lots of natural light from big windows; it makes you feel happy to arrive "home" after work. I stayed here a total of 9 days in 2 rooms. The kitchens are well-appointed, the beds high-end. If you're having to stay in Springfield, here's your place. read more

I've been traveling to Springfield for business for 15 years. I tended to stay at the Crowne across the street from the Residence Inn, but last year a client requested we stay at a Marriott property so we tried the Residence Inn. I now rarely stay anywhere else. The rooms are clean and spacious, the beds are very comfortable. The staff is incredibly friendly, Andrew greets me by name when I check in. Although I don't participate in the food/dessert/wine/cheese offerings on a regular basis, the food I have tried is of high quality and the included breakfast is as good as you can expect for a hotel breakfast. I do wish they served the biscuits and gravy more often than Tuesday/Saturday... I read a review that indicated there's a charge for an upgrade - I would refute that statement as I have been upgraded several times, always at no charge and always without having to ask. This property values your business and treats you as such. read more

Very dissatisfied with this property. The decor and bedding was shabby and far below the standards of a Residence inn. Residence Inn is my favorite choice of the Marriott chain but this room did not meet my expectations. Room reeked of body odor and what the previous guests had cooked. I asked to be moved, but the property was full. Housekeeping came and sprayed, but that was as effective as putting perfume on a wet dog. The front desk promises to move me as soon as something becomes available, but for tonight the window and door have been open for hours but still went to buy an air freshener. None of the trash cans had liners, and there was an extremely long curly blond hair on my pillow! I expect to be moved for the next 7 nights of my 8-day stay, but I feel it is important to share this experience with other travelers. read more

I had the best experience at the Residence Inn! My maid of honor chose this hotel for my wedding weekend for the bridesmaids and the groomsmen and she couldn't have chosen a better place. We were there for the entire weekend in the apartment suite and it was huge and a perfect space. They made sure we were always taken care of. Extra pillows, towels, soaps, irons, everything. The suite had an entire kitchen with dishes and a large fridge. The hotel asked for our schedule to make sure that every time we left they were there to clean and tidy the room for us when we returned. Everything was absolutely perfect. The staff was also so incredibly friendly and always asked if there was anything they could do for us. Our experience overall of 6/5 stars. Truly amazing for a truly amazing weekend. I will give this hotel a three stars because it does not have usual Marriot residence inn hospitality for its member. As a platinum elite member of Marriot, I did not receive a welcome gift and was not able to be upgraded without 100 USD. Just understand that this is a franchise and not a regular Residence INN. If they cannot follow Marriot rule, why call it Marriot and let me stay in it not calling home? I will have other choice of Marriot. I will write to Marriot to identify which hotel is "Marriot" and which is franchise, so, I can avoid "Franchise". read more

Travelling every week to different cities for work can be rough, but staying here makes it much easier, as I always feel at home! The staff is very friendly and courteous and makes sure that all of your needs are met. During the week, there are socials during the evening that have different offerings every night (such as food from the grill, dessert, etc.). I've only been able to stay and mingle a couple of times due to work, but it is nice going down and grabbing a glass of wine and a quick bite in between. The workout facilities are nice and well-kept. Overall, it's a great stay! read more

My husband and I arrived to pick up our keys for our reservation at 6:55 pm on 3/4/17. The staff was nice and polite during the check in, it was a great experience. And the last positive one we had at this hotel. We left to attend a bachelor and bachelorette party. During the night, we reserved a second room for a friend using some hotel points I had. That also went off without a hitch. We arrived back at the hotel at 2:25am on 3/5/17. We went to pick up the keys for the second reservation. However, there was no one at the front desk. We waited a few minutes, thinking they maybe had to go take something to a room. After about 2-3 minutes, we start calling into the back off "Hello? HELLO?!" No answer. My husband walks around the front desk and into the back room, looking for the people. Nothing. No One. I call the front desk on the telephone at 2:32am, thinking SOMEONE would answer from somewhere in the hotel. Nothing. So at this point, I start calling out loudly "HELLO? IS ANYONE THERE?". My husband notices a walkie-talkie and uses it to radio to see if anyone would pick up anywhere and tell us how we can get our room key for the second room. And then finally, I notice that there is a man sleeping on the couch in the lobby. We have a small discussion on whether we think it was the worker. Surely not! So eventually, my husband shakes the man and asks if he works there. YEP! That was the employee. Now, I get it, working nights is tiring and maybe he fell asleep. But HOW IN THE WORLD DID HE SLEEP THROUGH ME YELLING OUT "HELLO?!?"? Was he maybe drunk on the job? Had that been his only wrong move, I may not have even reported it. But no, our story does not end there. So at 2:40. we check into the room and ask if we can leave the keys there for my friend, who is about 10 minutes away still. He says sure. So we head up to our room and change for the evening, and at 2:40 exactly I text my friend to tell her that her keys are at the front desk. But at 2:52am, my friend texts me and says there is no one there and she can't get her keys. I tell her to check the couch. Yep, there he was again, she had to shake him awake to have him give her her keys. Within 12 minutes, he had fallen into such a deep sleep that she had to be shaken awake! And he KNEW that someone was coming to pick up keys but had made the decision to GO BACK TO SLEEP ANYWAY. But wait, there is more! Our friend is right down the hall from us and stops to say thank you for the room. We chat for a minute, and then my husband walks her to her room to make sure the keys work. Nope, they aren't actually magnetized correctly. We aren't sure if they were ever magnetized or if they were coded to the wrong room, so my husband goes down to the desk to get the man to re-swipe the cards. And in the 3-5 minutes from the time he gave my friend the keys to when my husband came back down to get the fixed, HE HAD FALLEN ALSEEP ON THE COUCH AGAIN!! We finally gain access to both rooms and turn in for the night. Here are my main issues with this experience: 1) The front desk worker was not awakened by the phone ringing, so any guest problem that he would have been responsible for was ignored. 2) The front door is the only entry point that is unsecured by a swipe key. So the front desk attendant is the only thing that prevents random people from gaining access to the building. A function that was completely irrelevant when the attendant is sleeping on the couch. 3) The computer with the guest information and allowing access to guest rooms was completely unguarded. Warranted, I did not look to see if there was a log-in required, but still, there was no one there to stop us! 4) My husband walked all through the back room, having access to plenty of information that should have been restricted. So anyone could walk through and either rob the place or get information on the guests. 5) We could have taken all the food from the store section and there would have been no one there to stop us. Now I hope that unauthorized access and thefts did not happen, but we have literally no way of knowing that. I am positive the man went back to sleep after our third encounter, sleeping for who knows how long. This is the most unsafe I have ever felt in a hotel and I will never return to this one. read more
