You enter through the gate and head inside to get your wine. The couple running this winery were very nice and helped me pick our four wines to try. I don't like oaky whites or tanniny reds, but was able to find four whites to try: 2024 Sunrise on the James, which was semi-sweet and tart from the blood orange; 2024 Island Time, semi-sweet with a tart pineapple flavor; 2021 Vidal Blanc, which I thought had a funny smell and taste; 2023 River Breeze, which was citrusy but also kind of watery. I sat outside and listened to a talented guitar on the covered patio. The service was top notch, and the owners were really friendly, but I personally didn't like any of the wines I tried.

The grapes are a bit younger (oldest vines about five years) so the flavors are sharp and punchy. There drinkable now but also will age well. They have quite a variety on the tasting menu - from port style, whites and reds. We had a great tasting experience with one of the owners and felt comfortable sitting and drinking wine after our wine tasting. No snacks yet, but they are planning on getting.

I had wanted to go when I had heard about it online, so I had to try it when I was in town. Now, I'm not sure if it's on the menu still, but the mushroom conserva and the pappardelle with braised lamb, collard greens, cumin oil; So good! Well-balanced flavors, nice spice, and not overly oily. If they ever bring it back, get it. Such a welcoming atmosphere with great customer service! It does get very busy, so make a reservation. My "Korean short rib" was a beautiful cut, first sliced and over marinated, ruining it with salt, then cooked on a high temp flat top, rendering the delicious beef tough, mouth-burning in its saltiness, and chewy. Absolute protein abuse. Thus was served on a rice cake that was ice cold cooked white rice seared and pressed in a pan. Could have worked if it was still warm, with a fluffy or chewy interior. As it was, it was brittle, hard, and unpleasant, just waiting to chip a tooth or dislodge a filling. Wildly overrated. Sorry to the very kind bar and kitchen staff. I took a few bites and rejected the food. I was not forced to pay.

We first fell in love with Virago because of their products, which is ultimately what prompted us to reach out about hosting an event in their space. After having the pleasure of not only enjoying their tasting room but also hosting our event there, we now have an entirely new appreciation for what makes Virago so special. First and foremost, a HUGE shoutout to the incredible people who made our experience so memorable- Vicki, Mike, Barry, Floyd, and everyone else we interacted with were so welcoming, friendly, and genuinely enjoyable to talk to. And Cade and Miles behind the bar absolutely knocked it out of the park. They provided some of the best hospitality we could have asked for while also making some seriously delicious drinks to complement the experience. We were even lucky enough to get a tour and hear more about the history of the facility, the people behind Virago, and the mission that drives what they do. We were completely blown away. It was one of those experiences that makes you realize there is so much more behind a great product than what you see on the shelf. Working with the Virago team from start to finish was an absolute pleasure. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure our event was handled perfectly, and it showed. Every one of our guests left happy, impressed, and in great spirits. We already had plenty of love for Virago's products before this experience, but now we have an even greater appreciation for the people behind them. We will absolutely be repeat customers, and judging by the reactions of everyone we brought with us, Virago gained quite a few new customers that day as well! Thank you to the entire Virago team for making such an important occasion for us even more special. We couldn't have asked for a better experience, and we truly can't say enough good things about you all.

We were located upstairs which has a balcony that over looks the back of the property. My friends have raved about their wines and even sangria. There has been people there singing and a band once. So it was nice to have some entertainment. I enjoyed sitting outside on the porch. We even sat down below the exterior where it was quieter. The staff have always been accommodating, knowledgeable on their product and kind. The grounds has always been well put together and clean. The owners are incredibly involved and take the time to get to know their guests. They're welcoming, laid-back, and the kind of people you can laugh and joke around with. Over the years, I've gotten to know many of the regulars by name, and SummerWind truly feels more like a community than a winery. My girlfriends and I never miss bingo night. We love the atmosphere, the people, and spending the evening enjoying great food and wine together. The prizes are fun too--if you're lucky enough to win! Whether it's a glass of wine, food, or the infamous carafe of sangria, it always adds to the excitement. The food is excellent, especially the fig and goat cheese board. They also offer seasonal menu items that are always worth trying, which keeps every visit interesting. If you're looking for amazing wine, delicious food, fun events, and genuinely wonderful people, SummerWind Winery is a place you'll want to visit again and again. It's one of those rare places where you feel welcomed the moment you walk in and leave looking forward to your next visit. Cheers to the SummerWind family!

We wanted to sit outside, but if you want to do self-service, you have to sit beyond the patio. I really enjoyed their bubbly rose. We also go the truffle fries and charcuterie board to share. We enjoyed munching on those. They have women and mens restrooms indoors. There is a lot of free parking out front. There are indoor seats available, but I believe inside and the patio are only for full service. Each visit we brought out of town visiting guess for lunch and flight tasting. Let first talk about the meals. This time I decided on a burger and chips. It was a nice size meal and perfectly cooked. The wifey had the Turkey Bacon Ranch Panini with chips. She liked it and it also was a very filling meal. My guest has the Southwest Cobb Salad and she really liked it and the portion was huge. She ended up taking about 1/2 home for a late dinner. The Truffle Fries appetizer was outstanding and also a very large portion. The both ladies did have wine flights and both found a wine that they really enjoyed. As for service: our young lady was very nice and took decent care of us. She checked on us a couple times during our nearly 2 hour stay. As for the location: We love it. The view on a sunny day of the water/grounds from the patio deck is wonderful. Although on both times of my visits we have eaten outside but the inside is really nice and cool inside on hot day like today was. One last thing - reservations. We made a request for the outside patio and we got exactly what we wanted. We are also glad we made reservations because we would not have been outside without them today. The inside although a nice crowd - wasn't full. There were tables. But with all this said I highly suggest reservations. So go and enjoy your visit at USV.
