I stopped by on a weekend afternoon to try some wine. The man who helped me first asked what I liked and didn't like, then proceeded to give me several wines to taste. I didn't like any of the samples I tried, so he gave me a few more options, including a frozen slushy that tasted like pine and finally a way too sweet sangria. He tried his best and was very helpful, but I just was not a fan of anything I tried. I've been to a number of wineries in VA, and while I haven't always liked everything I've tried, this was the first winery where I did not like anything. read more

Living in Richmond, it was a treat to make a short drive to the southside to Chester to visit Ashton Creek! The grounds were well maintained and the outdoor seating was nice, pretty views of the vineyards. The inside was rather plain, but nice, it would be better with some wine themed decor, a bit industrial for my taste. The restrooms were clean and had unique fixtures. Our service was super quick and the folks there were friendly and informative! We all ordered various flights of wine to try. I ordered the Lady May Rosé, the Ta Ta Tannat Rosé and the Lori Ann Cab Franc, which were all lovely. I do prefer the rosé blends. We also ordered the charcuterie board and it was huge and full of meats, cheeses, crostini, fruits, and various chutneys. It was marvelous. We also devoured the massive Bavarian pretzel with cheese and mustard dips. The menu also offered salads, tacos, sandwiches, appetizers, and desserts. Well let me say I've seen bunch of friends come here and love it. All these years passing this place we have never been. Well this weekend we had family in town and this is what we chose. First the place: Really nice and seems very well kept. I know the place is 8 years old or maybe a little more. Since it was terribly humid and with rain nearby we decided to stay inside. Staff: We were greeted by a nice lady who took her time explaining the wines and getting us ready for our visit. Again she was very friendly and helpful. Meals: It was all very tasty. There were four of us, so we shared samples with each other. The really good thing was the Buttermilk Chicken. Well done. Perfectly fried and had a really great taste. The order of fries (Tuscan Parm) had a nice flavor. We all like it. I do think for portion was slightly smaller vs the cost. Again only by a little bit. The Wines: I was driving so only tea for me. But my guests and my wife all found wines they really enjoyed. I will say this the Side Way's 2023 was liked by all of us. So I will say we all enjoyed this place and its offerings. I would suggest a visit. I am also confident we will be back. I actually give it a solid 4 1/2 stars but I rounded up since that wasn't an option and the place was too good to round down. read more

Cute gem in the most random location! It almost looks like you're in Charlottesville towards the vineyard/off the balcony. Came to trivia night (which was so fun)! I ended up doing a wine flight, which came with a mini glass so I was very happy. The wine menu is extensive and had great options. You can also opt for cocktails! I met with some great friends for a night out. We hadn't met in a year and wanted to try something new. We went to Ashton Creek Vineyard for their varied menu. We got there and were treated with the beautiful live music by the talented Wayne Williams. He played so many hits that we jammed for hours. The food options were fun and enough to keep us satiated. They had a warm pretzel that was AMAZING. It was soft and warm and had dipping a cheese and a mustard dipping sauce. My friends go the wine flights one that was sweet and one that was dry. This was a nice little gem in an unsuspecting location. It's a small quaint little vineyard but the food and wine tells the bigger story. There was a decent selection of wine. I opted for the wine flight so I can try a little bit of all of their popular pours and I was not disappointed. Each one had its own unique flavor. I'm usually a red girl but the white was nice and refreshing. It paired well with the strong flavors and acidity from the charcuterie board. Also, don't miss out on the the crab dip! Great staff, great wine. My date and I visited Ashton Creek Vineyard the weekend before Valentine's day for a tasting. The evening of I called in and asked about reservations and the bartender assured us that we were more than welcome to come in for a tasting without reservations, which was surprising since everything is usually booked up around Valentine's Day. The property gives a luxury plantation home vibe which sets this Vineyard apart from any other that I've visited, it's a nice open layout. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip which was delicious and three wines of our own to taste. In all we had a great experience and willl definitely be back for more. read more

Today we celebrated an employees retirement and she chose Ashton Creek Vineyard as the place for the event. There were over 20 of us from the nearby military base. We spent good money at Ashton Creek on food and drinks and right before we left on 5-28-2025 at 4 PM, the manager on duty charged us $27.50 for a cake fee because we brought a cake in from outside and they offer their own desserts was her reasoning. I asked her do you really need to charge us this fee for a party of over 20 people, doesn't sound like a good business model. She chose to charge us and I think it was a very bad decision on her part. Ruined a good experience!!! read more

Ok so where do I start......first timer!! Walked in at 1530hrs and wasn't greeted, I assume they were in a employee conference /huddle session. So I had to interrupt them to get help..... they might want to add a bell on the entrance so they can hear when they have guest coming in. Anywho....it was local and convenient! The lady that helped us suggested the Sangria and the wine slushy.......hands down were the hit of my visit! Social Distancing: yes adhere to regulations with enough space to accommodate their guest inside and outside...staff wore mask as well. Tables were blocked to ensure all were 6ft. Decor was fitting and true winery feel... We decided to sit outside since it was so nice, wasn't too cold however it was extremely windy.......not good for the tasting! The self pour tasting flights were very different. I skipped one because a bug fell in it....so sad about this. The descriptions for each were exactly what we tasted. There was a lot of Dry Wines on the list for tasting. Because it was a catch up session with friends I wasn't able to get the full tasting of each wine. Also, I left my to go glass at the winery. One might think that a winery in Chester, VA would be subpar to those nestled in the majestic Blue Ridge mountains. Think again. Ashton Creek has so much to offer. The wines are fabulous. Rarely do I like every wine in the tasting but Ashton Creek broke that trend. I enjoyed every one of them. The food menu is extensive and the food is quite good. To top it off, the guy working the tasting room was VERY nice and super attentive. This is a great little find tucked away in Chester. We tried a flight of red wines and the charcuterie board. The staff was all very nice and helpful which can really make or break a winery experience. Our friend has a severe gluten allergy and they were great about being attentive to not cross contaminating our food for her safety. After being cooped up in the house for months due to Covid, my bf and I decided to venture out for some socially distant fun. This was our first time at this winery and we will definitely be back! The wine was amazing as was the food. Although they were not doing wine tastings due to covid, we really enjoyed the wine flight option. We selected 3 wines and were given 4oz pours of each. Before we selected our three, the waitress allowed us to sample a few to aid in our decision. We ended up going with the Rosé, Willies White 2017 and Sweet Summer (my fave!) wines. Such a cute little Vineyard. We decided to check this place out after spending most of our Saturday at Upper Shirley Vineyards which I highly recommend. We came with 5 adults and 4 children. They are around 30 min away from each other. This is a really cute spot... an unexpected surprise. The place was packed as we pulled up but we soon realized it was because they had a wedding. I would say I wish they didn't have a wedding while the tasting area is open which is pretty common in most wineries. Because there was a wedding there we were pretty confined to the tasting area seating. There is some outdoor and some patio seating but most of it is indoors. I feel like if they didn't have a wedding they could definitely open up more seating outside. The place provides tastings on their own wines and they also provide cider tastings from a cidery. It was a nice change of pace to have some ciders to try at a winery... since that isn't common. Regardless... we all enjoyed our tasting. It was $10 for the tasting with 6 wines and 4 ciders which also included the Vineyards glass. All the wines were pretty good... though our favorite was the Red Velvet. The ciders were okay but we all felt like it was a little watered down. We also decided to order some snacks and got the baguette with dipping oil (the baguette was warm and Crispy... and served with olive oil and balsamic straight from Greece and the server went on to tell us... all I have to say is yummy goodness), Conch Fritters (these were super Crispy and came with a Aioli of sorts and Thai dipping sauce, good but not the best conch fritters I've ever had), Duck Dumplings (imagine an empanada shaped dumpling with a wonton/egg roll wrapper with a crab Rangoon like duck filling, they were pretty tasty) and Asiago Garlic fries (tasty but pales in comparison to the Truffle Fries we had at Upper Shirley earlier in the day). All in all it is a really cute Vineyard and we will be back as it is only 25 min away from Midlothian. There were some kids roaming around but again I wish there was more outdoor space for kids. read more

Ashton Creek is an event center that is adding wine to their repertoire. While generally speaking I find wineries that emphasize the wedding venue part of the business tend to have a poorer selections of wines, my concerns were allayed by an excellent tasting. Well trained, friendly staff too. They are still new, but I think they are going in the right direction. The facility is in a residential area, so it doesn't have the rustic or 'farm' quality that many VA wineries have. But the interior was nice, and they had a good selection of small dishes like flatbreads & salads, in addition to charcuterie boards. In many ways, it reminded me more of a wine bar vs. a winery. While they have 5 acres of grapes (including some planted in front of their building), for the time being they are getting grapes from Bluestone Vineyard (in the Shenandoah). But Ashton makes its own wine, which I think demonstrates its commitment to making a good product. In addition to this line up, they had some guest-ciders. As for the wine: Seyval Blanc: Crisp, citrus or apple notes (my friend & I disagreed on which). I'm not much of a white drinker and even more rarely a Seyval drinker, but I really liked this one. Traminette: As you expect from this grape, strong floral nose. If you don't like this grape, theirs won't change your mind. But if you do, a good selection. Rose: Strawberry nose, pink color, semi-sweet. Moscato: This was a surprising edition because I never see this grape, and it was made on the dry side. Great honey & fruit nose, silky body. A winner! Cab Sav: Dark fruit notes (I got plumb), very dark color. Pretty good Cab Franc: My tasting notes fail me, but I seem to remember this was the only part of the line up I didn't care for. My biggest complaint is they are so short on inventory, they aren't selling bottles of the Moscato, Rose, or Cab Sav. Hopefully once they settle in, this will soon change. read more

First time trying this winery and it wasn't bad. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy or too crowded. We were able to walk in and get seated outdoor on the patio right away (the inside was available as well). The staff was great and the wine flight I tried was more than enough.I can't remember which wines I tried, but they were all sweet (my preference). I also had the peach wine slushy which was so refreshing! For appetizers, we tried the calamari and the crab dip which both were so good!
