The rooms and facilities are clean, modern, and well maintained. Special pluses for a big bathroom with a non-slip floor and lots of grab bars everywhere. Room and bed are comfortable and it is not very expensive compared with the hotels we are used to. Lots of plugs and electronics hook ups. There is the usual small fridge, microwave, tv and coffee maker. There is an iron and ironing board. The usual complaints, no elevators, only one chair in each room, skimpy on soap, tp, etc. As is getting more common, your room is not picked up every day and if you want something, you have to go to the front desk. The one big complaint is that there is no closet, no hangers, and only two hooks for your clothes. What is with that? We asked for hangers at the desk and they went into panic mode and stole 2 from the laundry room. They need at least one comfortable chair. The desk chair they provide is not very comfortable. We had to drag the shower chair out of the bathroom and put 2 pillows on it. Stay away from the rooms with a "hot tub" unless you really plan to use it. It takes space away from the bathroom and costs a lot more. Skip the hotel breakfast unless you are really pressed for time. There is a Huddle House right across the Interstate, and for a little more drive (about 25 minutes) go to Bob Evans.

Cold cereal, waffle machine (mix was too watery causing waffle to not cook through), and nearly frozen hard boiled eggs. Pastries looked old, bagels were good, and coffee that was just warm. No fruit of any kind. Coffee is poured into cold pump serving containers that cause it to be only warm even if you get it as soon as it comes out. Hot water should be used to heat the dispenser before coffee is added. Pool is down, will be until June, but it is still advertised as having an indoor pool. What is the point if it is going to be closed for months? Breakfast not served until 6, not one minute earlier. Forget it if you like to get an early start. Cannot even get a bowl of cereal or slice of bread/pastries. In fact the door is locked so cannot even sit at a table to play a game or have a cup of barely warm coffee. My wife and I used to love this place. We won't be back.

So off to the front desk and she said oh yeah the hot tub doesn't work. So we're like that's why we got the room so we're gonna go ahead and check out and find another place. And she said well I'm sorry I already checked in, so we're not gonna give you a refund. And I said so you're gonna force us to stay here? She said you already checked in. I demanded a manager. Owner was called. During this process she thru the F bomb and this only inflamed this situation. Long story short refund was said to be issued, mmmmmm we shall see. So we crossed the highway and stayed at Surestay! Beautiful reception area with a tv, fruit bowl, coffee maker, hot chocolate and treats for children. There is a nice swimming pool. This hotel had mostly out of town contractors and construction workers, and weary travelers that pulled off the highway to stay somewhere. It has a Walmart right next to it, and an old broken down long since closed car wash on the other side of it. It's on the outskirts from downtown Ashland, right off I-64. I have stayed at some very nice Hampton Inns over the years, and I will still consider them in the future, but this is an old one that is in need of a complete renovation, but based on where it is, it probably would not be beneficial to spend the money doing it.

Which was great. The room itself was comfortable, had carpeting, and smelled neat and clean. A step up from some of the places I have stayed before, and was actually less than what I was expecting. Plus they have a breakfast in the morning! That's a nice bonus and they have waffles! The bathroom is neat and clean and very spacious. The only thing I could say that was a criticism was it would be nice to have a non-slip mat in the shower. It definitely is a little treacherous but they do have safety bars in there. Bottom line? It was spacious enough that we unloaded the back of a pickup truck filled with Christmas gifts, loaded them onto a luggage cart and took the elevator to the second floor. We didn't chance leaving them in the truck. The area seems safe enough, but. . . Beds were firm for great sleep after an 8 hour drive. We used the small exercise room, which was fine except treadmill did not work. Elliptical and bike did and there were many barbells of various weights well organized on a rack with a bench. Pool is indoors. Looked clean but did not use. Breakfast bar was great. Tasty hot bar, oatmeal, bakery items, fruit, cold cereal, pancake machine, yogurt, and lots of drink choices--coffee, juices, milk, hot tea, water. There was also a Hot Cocoa Bar in the lobby which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The free WiFi was terribly slow. The stairwells were clean and a great healthy alternative to taking the elevator except the stairwell closest to the front desk smelled like a smoking lounge. Dog owners do not always clean up after their pets despite the bags and trash can conveniently located in the grassy area outside the front door.

We needed somewhere to stay near Huntington and this was the cheapest option available with my rewards points. Turns out that I was actually pretty impressed with it! This Holiday Inn Express felt very clean and recently updated. It offered free breakfast, a pool and also had a fitness center. The rooms were clean, but the only complaint I have is that our nonsmoking room smelled like cigarettes the whole weekend. But besides that, we enjoyed our stay here and didn't have any other problems.
