Food was fine, service was a bit slow. They do charge for stale pretzels and bring you bread when you don't ask for it. Still, we got out for less that €20. However, the worst part was the waitress hovered over us and simply told us the tip rather than letting us give her what she deserved. She up-charged our meal 30%. This place just blew me away for hearty, rustic food at its' best. My girlfriend and I tucked into the peasants platter which was a huge frying pan of pork meat, onions, bacon, herbs in gravy topped with cheese. Very big and we could not finish it. Straight forward bar, good place to drop by and have a few beers. Don't expect quick or attentive service. My wife and I stopped by for a few beers on a Friday evening. The place was busy, but with a couple of open tables in the main area and an open counter in an adjacent room in front of the bar. We took a seat at the counter in the adjacent room and waited for a few minutes. When no one came to take our order, I went to the bar and asked for 2 pilseners. The server behind the bar asked me (in English) to wait at my seat and said he would come take our order. I went back to my seat and we waited a few more minutes. After about 10 minutes of waiting the server came and took our order - 2 beers. He came back a couple of minutes later dropped the beers off and left. We didn't see him again until we flagged him down later on and ordered more. We ended up drinking 6 beers for about $13USD (including tip). Overall, OK bar seemed like a majority were tourists with a few locals mixed in. We did not eat, however so my review is solely based on the service/environment experience. read more

Waiting for more than 1 hour for the food, people ordering after us getting the food served before us. After about 1 hour we asked for the bill. The waitress checked with the boss and said the food would be free. Ehen the food came, it was cold. When it was about paying nobody knew about we don't need to pay for the (late and cold) food. The boss was getting more and more aggressive and said the lady would not have been our waitress (he didn't answer the question why she then took the order) and she would speak barely English, the waitress added she would have never said that (even though we reconfirmed with her when she mentioned that). Said he would call the police if we don't pay the full amount. Paid, left, will never get there again. Definitely no recommendation. read more

Place is not even worth the one star im rating them. The ribs tasted like they were fresh off the microwave, stale and dry. Also, the server was fraudulent trying to say the service charge of 10% was mandatory when his service was barely worth 1%. read more

This place is a shameless tourist trap :( -Don't give them your business! After 6 blissful and delicious nights in Prague, we were in a hurry and didn't have the luxury of choice, so we gave this place a try grace à proximity. Don't touch the old, cold pretzels on the table, they'll charge you for it after the fact. Compared to the smorgasbord of other tasty places, this place is over priced and of lamentable quality. Other reviewers who found the food acceptable or authentic simply hadn't eaten at enough Prague pubs and cafes! Just a quick walk away is the U Tri Ruzi, for example: you'll get thrown out the first time you try but be be persistent and look for a table upstairs. Better yet, walk across the Charles Bridge and go to the near by U Lokal! So delicious, so cozy and so much fun! There's much better beer, hot wine, goulash, Praha Ham, and roast pork to be had elsewhere, so give this place a pass! read more

We had no idea this place has been around since 1409, we simply saw the "AC Downstairs" sign out front and stumbled in. My review is based on some great things and some not so great things. The service was actually pretty good and the beer was as good as it gets, but the food was good except for the salad. I know...why are you ordering a salad in a place like this?!!! I did...ok? Anyway, the salad had sand or something like it in the lettuce. Almost every bite I took had a grain of sand and I had to stop eating. My sons all enjoyed their dishes (no salad), but I can't help but think I am going to be sick tomorrow since the lettuce was not cleaned properly. Hopefully the incredible beer will save me. Also, I was a bit surprised to see a place that allowed smoking in the restaurant. Not something I would expect in Europe anymore. So a lot of good things and a couple of bad things. My advice would be to at least go there for a proper beer and try anything but the salad. I would like to note that they took the salad off my bill. Again...good service. read more

The service here was absolutely terrible, our waitress was rude and wouldn't even try to communicate with us about our check and at the end of the meal she pointed out how much we're supposed to tip her and when we asked for change she dropped it on the table angrily and walked away, they also charge you for the pretzels and the bread that they serve you which aren't even very good. I will echo a number of comments from previous reviews. On the positive side, the beer was really good, the food portions were very large. In fact, you could easily split the rib platter between two people. And, the prices are very reasonable, my wife and I had two large entrées and four beers between us and the total including tip was around $40, US. The bad side is as others have have commented, they do want to up charge you for pretzels and peanuts that are already sitting on the table, and also ask you if you want bread, but do not tell you that there will be a charge for it. The ribs were good but too salty for my taste, however, one of the people in our group had them and thought they were great. On the positive side, they do have indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating was great because it was a hot day and the area where we were sitting was very cool. So, go there knowing all of these comments but overall it was a good meal. read more

My friends and I had an average experience at U Vejvodu. After drinking a lot of beer earlier in the day, none of us were up to drinking beer, which seemed to make our waitress a little angry from the start. We ordered soups to start which arrived quickly, but then we waited a very long time for our main dishes to arrive. We are used to having long meals because we are studying abroad in Rome and Italian meals are hours long, but even this wait seemed long to us. The food was good, but the portions were a bit disappointing, especially after developing quite an appetite waiting for so long. I would not go out of my way to recommend U Vejvodu, but I wouldn't "not" recommend it either. The food was good, but the server was cold and not very helpful when we asked questions, and as mentioned above, the wait was a bit too long for the size and quality of the food. There are better places in Prague, but this is by no means a bad restaurant. read more

This used to be one of my favourite pubs, but no more. We were a large group and wanted to sit in the garden, which seemed problematic for our waitress, Mirka, but she eventually managed to seat us. When we wanted to order our drinks Mirka said she could not take our order as we were still missing one person, and she would do so once the person arrived. When we started to order some of us weren't sure of what we wanted to drink, so instead of asking the next person, Mirka rudely said I will come back when you are all ready with your orders. At this point, we wanted to leave but it started to rain so we decided to stay and move indoors which seems to make Mirka very happy. She walked us all the way back to an empty room and we were promptly forgot. After 15 minutes, my friend went up to the bar and asked if anyone would serve us and eventually a waiter arrived who was more pleasant than Mirka. They brought bread to our table which none of us ate, but found out when it was time to pay that we were all charged 20 crowns for the bread, it is standard policy but no one tells you that when you arrive. Also there are pretzels on the table and you get charged if you eat one. The food was okay, some of the dishes were too salty. All in all, it was a very disappointing and embarrassing experience as it was our last night in Prague and I bragged about how great this pub was. None of us will ever go back, nor will I recommend this restaurant to anyone ever again. I have never encountered such a rude waitress in my life and not sure why she is still working there and how this restaurant stays in business. read more
