Not fancy, small like a China town dive but amazing flavor to our coconut curry soup and pad Thai with more shrimp and chicken than most ! We had a hankering for Asian food after a few days of fried food in Old Quebec. We were seated quickly at an outside patio table and the owner came over with menus right away and welcomed us. She was very friendly. Our server was also very friendly (maybe the daughter of the owner?) came by quickly to take our order. We ordered 2 bowls of Pho (no price provided on the menu) and 2 friends ordered General Tso chicken and rice. Our beer arrived quickly as did the spring rolls (small rolls for the cost at ~$15 for 4). The 2 bowls of pho arrived shortly after, and while flavorful, it was small, with 2 meatballs, cut in half and a few pieces of beef. The herbs were already placed into the pho broth upon arrival to the table. We sat for a few minutes so that our 2 other friends could receive their food before we started eating, but their General Tso chicken did not arrive, so we started eating, as the pho noodles would absorb all the broth and get soggy. 30 minutes later, still no General Tso chicken, and we had finished our pho. One of the staff noticed that 2 of the 4 guests were nearly finished their meal and asked our server what was happening, and she said the kitchen was working on it. We waited for a few more minutes and asked the server to check on the order, and she said "We have 2 kitchens, your order is up next"--this was very surprising as it had been at least 45 minutes since the order was taken, and they had not started the 2 remaining dishes. Since they had not even started to make the other meals, we decided to cancel them and settle the bill. The server apologized for the mess up and comped the spring rolls. One of the people who did not receive their food, had a beer--the beer was not comped--which we found odd, since he was most inconvenienced by his food not arriving at all. When we went to settle the check, the pho was $22!! Way too expensive for what we received. While the server apologized profusely for the lapse in service, it did not save the evening for us. 2 of 4 people had dinner, while the other 2 watched and patiently waited for their food. While the staff seemed nice, the spring rolls were average at best (and overpriced) and the pho was WAY overpriced. Also, if a restaurant has 2 kitchens to put out food (one for noodles and one for stir fries?), it would only make sense that the food would come out together--this is not an unreasonable expectation from a guest in a restaurant. read more

During our stay here we ate here 2 times. The first time was so good our boys insisted on us coming back before we left for home. We ordered the crispy noodle dish, pad Thai, and the yellow curry dish. All were made fresh with great flavor. The owner and her daughter were there and they were extremely friendly and loved my boys. They even sang Happy Birthday and brought him local strawberries with fresh whip cream and a sparkler. read more

This place is an absolute gem!! The food is incredible, and the service is wonderful. We were there last night and had a great conversation with the owner and her daughter, they are both really sweet and fun. We had the curry chicken soup and I seriously could eat it every day, it was that delicious! The shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce were the best I've ever had in my life. So yummy! We are only in town visiting for a few days, but I wish we had a place like this in my hometown. We will be back again for more deliciousness before we head home to the U. It isn't exactly what you would expect from traditional Asian food, but all the flavors were excellent. We were lucky enough to visit this restaurant while the owner was around and she told us all about the history of her business as well as about her food. Being a vegetarian this place is a goldmine. They will make any of their dinner plates vegetarian! I asked for a chicken curry dish made vegetarian and they didn't even blink an eye. We got the vegetarian fried wontons and they were AMAZING. The dipping sauce was so good. Dinner was really good. Some unique flavors, for both mine and my husbands. My husband had a meat dish and said it was good, somewhat average. I'll start off by saying the food here was actually good enough. The service was just not up to par. The 50ish woman who was serving us, who appeared to be the owner/manager, behaved erratically the entire time that we were there. She bumped into me or our table a few times, and drew on me with her pen (accidentally, I assume), while pointing out something on the menu. I found myself wondering if her mind was going. There was another woman, perhaps 10 years younger, who was a bit more stable, along with a man in his 20s who appeared briefly. First, we ordered 2 items from the lunch specials. My companion ordered some tea to drink. I ordered the one beer that was available on tap. I don't recall what kind of beer it was, but it was passable. After at least a half hour had passed and several tables that arrived after us received their food, our server appeared to tell us they forgot our order. She asked us what we ordered and said it'd be the first order out. She still hadn't brought the green tea at this point. After another lengthy wait, watching more other tables receive their orders, the food appeared, brought to us by the younger gentleman. The food tasted ok - passable at least. We reminded them again about the tea, which eventually came when we finished our meal. Unfortunately there was a greasy film over one of the teas, which may have been from a dirty glass. We told the servers, but I think some of the message was lost. I paid inside with the younger of the two ladies, and chose not to leave a tip. She noticed, and asked me why I didn't leave a tip. I started to explain why, starting by telling her that the order was late/forgotten. She argued with me and told me they brought our order out right away. At that point I decided that listing the other reasons wasn't going to accomplish anything. Well this was a strange find for us. We were exploring the bottom part of the old city and in this strange, nearly abandoned, artsy street we came across Asia. Given that our other options near by were sea food places, we settled on some Asian food. The weather turned to crap so we sat inside. The menu was easy to read and they had a vegetarian option. Everyone but me ordered something meaty. As I recall, the server spoke English and we had no problem ordering. The food came out a bit later than we hoped but at least the appetizers quieted our hungers. The veggie plate was mediocre at best. Way too much tofu and not enough veggies. Disappointing. The absolute worst Asian food ever. Petite portions and pricey. The food was bland, overcooked, old and cold. They brought in the food from their other restaurant next door. The owner served us and was rude and then expected a tip from us at the end, sorry/not sorry no tip. They never came to our table once after we got our food to ask if we needed anything more. There were four of us and we ordered 6 dishes, we're not big eaters but we were still hungry when we finished and had to stop at another place to get more to eat. Do not eat here, save your money. Next evening we ate at Buffet de L'Antiquaire just a 2 minute walk from this place and the food was amazing. Wish we had known about Buffet de L'Antiquaire earlier. Why anyone would give Restaurant Asia any stars is unbelievable. You're better off going to a grocery store and buying some bread and cheese if you're hungry and can't find any other restaurants open near by. read more

Allow me to give an updated 2015 review of this little Vietnamese place situated in the heart of the Old Lower City in Quebec, QC. The other reviews below provide an interesting yet inaccurate view of what this restaurant provides. My family, a vegetarian foursome visiting from northern New Jersey, decided to "give it a shot" and try this place out despite its negative reviews. We were pleasantly surprised: it was EXCELLENT. At first, we were turned off by the confusing layout of the restaurant(s?), as this particular place is connected to Indochine Resto Express (which appeared as if it served meat broth only - heads up, fellow vegetarians), and we were not sure if the two restaurants were co-owned or connected in any way. Turns out, they both appear to be owned by what seemed to us a middle-aged couple, who tried desperately to shuttle us around between the two rooms and make sure that we, as vegetarians, were in the "right place." Eventually, the woman directed us to Restaurant Asia, where we sat by a large open window. She immediately told us that THEY COULD MAKE ANY MEAT DISH VEGETARIAN, either by substituting the meat with tofu or eliminating the meat/tofu concept altogether. It was lunchtime, so we ordered the Vegetarian Imperial Rolls as our appetizer. They were hot, fresh, crisp, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. We ended up ordering a second round immediately after! And, despite what the reviews say below, the service was surprisingly friendly and quick. My mother really liked her iced tea and I really liked my lemonade: very sweet with just the right amount of tang. We ordered three plates of entrees, which ended up being the perfect amount of food: the Vegetarian Pad Thai and two tofu/veggie dishes, one with curry sauce and the other with peanut sauce. Let me tell you, it was a REMARKABLE meal. While the service was slightly disoriented and the layout confused and unclear, the food was so good and the owners/waiters so friendly and accommodating that this place earns itself a 5-star review. I definitely recommend Restaurant Asia to any couple or family with older teenagers who have a sense of adventure and a love of Asian fusion Vietnamese/Thai food. I really hope this place gets more publicity than it has in the past because it truly deserves it! read more

Had a Tuango offer I was trying to use 3 weeks prior to expiration. The attendant was not able to cooperate with a reservation at any time of day (claiming the restaurant is booked up weeks in advance). Walked by the restaurant at 5 pm (the intended time for reservation), totally empty... Walked by again at 6:30 pm (after our meal somewhere else), the restaurant is only "half full", with at least 6 tables available. Don't bother go there... Or at least, don't bother buying an offer from Tuango (or another) to eat there. It is a waste of time! read more
