Was first in the restaurant we had a reservation at 7:00pm opening time yet they served four tables before us. When we asked when we would be receiving our food we got told they assumed we didn't like it medium rare. Chef came out slammed lamb chops on our plate and told us to tell the waiter if we needed it more cooked as he walked away in an angry tone, we felt like maybe it was time for us to go as we didn't feel welcome so we asked for the check. Chef came out angry told us to finish up and leave we said we'd leave now he ended up walking us out yelling shame on you all the way out, about how we were in the wrong. This is a very restaurant in Zermatt that satisfies your palate along with all your entertainment needs. I loved the soup served in a high heel, the foie gras, the eclectic ambience and the mini concert during the dinner. We were attended to by the owner and treated very well. Best. Birthday. Ever. The owner Dan Daniell was so amazing. He checked on every table to make sure that everyone was enjoying their meal. Once dessert was served, he gave a performance with a slideshow/video in the background and it was amazing!! Great performance and great energy!! Our ski instructor told us that we need to experience this restaurant at some point in our lives and I concur. I highly recommend coming here, whether it is your birthday or not! read more

My wife, daughter, and about 7 other friends from our tour group decided to check out the five star ratings and famous Chez Heini. The resturant is a good 10 minute walk from our hotel. They were very accommodating for a party of nine and we were provided with one of the best servers I have ever come across in Europe. In fact she was polite, super model beautiful and super efficient. They wasted no time in seating us and taking our drink orders. Menu's we're on vinyl LP's. This place is decorated in what I term an eclectic style as one would expect in a lively and fun restaurant. Several of us had soup in nice red stiletto pumps. A dream come true for many of us with a ounce of testosterone in our body's. Everyone had a different menu item and portions are as large as one would expect if you had been skiing in Zermatt in the middle of the summer. The lamb was absolutely delicious. The fish and prawns were cooked to perfection to where they melted in your mouth. I am a meat eater and I could not eat it all. Deserts covered in cotton candy made for a sweet lasting impression. We were all entertained by the magnificent voice of Dan Daniell in sync with many of his videos of beautiful Zermatt. If you are tired of the glitz and glamor of St. Moritz, spend a evening at the Heini and make fun memories that last a life time. read more

Disgusted The place gave a weird vibe as soon as we enters and the food took 1 hour to come the Sevice was slow and when we got the paying the bill we fell into a large argument with the bill as fillet should not have bones and I got choked on a bone the owner was screaming and shouting and the food was weird the only thing that was good is the lamb but the food is wayyyy to over priced and the service is terrible ! read more

What a wonderful experience! The atmosphere was unlike anything we've ever experienced - there were surprises and unique décor around every corner. It was extremely cozy and charming. The meal was delicious - we ordered the lammix, which was served with potatoes au gratin and vegetables. The service was wonderful, and, to top it all off, Dan Daniell sang around 10pm for all the guests. It was truly an experience and meal we'll never forget! We selected this restaurant as we read some good reviews on Yelp. I don't want to go too much details. Two things - waited for more than 75 minutes to get our main course. When I asked the waitress after an hour of waiting, I was told they need to finish serving all the guests with starters first before to server anyone the main course. Great practice! Second, at the time processing my bill, I was not asked if I want to pay local currency or USD. Directly charged me with USD and costed me extra $15 for the currency exchange. I can't say the experience at this restaurant is great. read more

My father and I were in Zermatt for one week to enjoy some amazing skiing. We were recommended this place by a local. Part of the experience was amazing but the other part was a massive disappointment. The Good The look and vibe in the restaurant is soooo cool. I loved the decor and the lighting. Really interesting! The menu is a record which was also really cool. I ordered the crab and shrimp flambé and my dad had the steak. We were both in heaven. And the way that the food is presented is also totally amazing. My dad had an Italian bear that came in a 750ml bottle! And my red wine was delicious. Also, the chef that served the lamb was so funny and engaging. Big plus! The Bad We went twice to this restaurant and had the same waitress both times. The service was awful. She was amazingly slow. She forgot our order (I went to the bathroom and she asked me what I wanted). She didn't bring bread until we asked several times. She served my second meal (turbo fish also amazing) wrong (the chef had to correct her). I was really tempted to get a dessert but she took so long that we just left. We always tip well. This was the exception. Also, you're not allowed to share which I think is a ridiculous rule. Sadly despite the wonderful food, I won't go back. read more

Well, going into the restaurant you can't be quite so sure about the food. The decoration looks like a flee market overhaul from the 70s and 80s. And you will see red shoes with food coming out of the kitchen. Let's just say, questionable first impressions. But then... Then you get your food and you will feel like you are eating at the best steakhouse in Switzerland. Whether you eat the fish, the lamb, or just some appetizers... You will love it. Interesting place Chez Heini is. First of all, DON'T BE LATE. This was beaten into us by our hotel concierge when he made the reservations for us. And proof, while we were there, a party (who seemed familiar to the establishment) came in and without any welcoming pleasantries, was greeted with a "you're 4 minutes late!" I looked at the time; it was 8:14 pm. Oh yikes. Chez Heini is run with German precision by seemingly one guy who does it all. He plays maitre d, waiter, server, AND he also roasts the slabs of meat in a wood-burning brick oven stove. He does not tolerate any hesitation. He will drop you in mid-sentence and move on to a different table. The decor is weird. Very dark room. There is a disco ball and birdcage room. Pictures of all sorts of celebrities line the walls. The menu covers are re-purposed vinyl records. BUT! The food is delicious! And generous portions. The lamb 2-ways (too much food, by the way) was the best tasting lamb that I've ever had. It was so tender and tasty. There were a ton of side-accompanying dishes. The best was the pototoes au gratin. Perfect crispiness and cheesy flavor. Definitely worth the calories! Chez Heini is not on the main drag in Zermatt. You have to take a taxi. Worth the trip if you like lamb and want a different experience. read more

This is one of the beat restaurants you could ever find for fresh home grown natural meat/lamb. The owner is a gentleman and his staff show his welcoming attitude for all who dine here. To have rack of lamb fresh from his grazing pastures succulent and delicious is a treat not to be found elsewhere. It's outstanding! Remember to hook in advance since I'm not the only one who knows this special spot!! I would definitely recommend you make a trip to Zermatt just to have dinner at Chez Heini! read more
