Just left Restaurant Depot and I'm so surprised I was barked at by the return desk girl, Wednesday, 4/07/2021, 1:00ish. I wish I could gotten her name but no name-tag. I'm always an understanding customer due to the fact I have worked in the hospitality, restaurant business. Please & thank you go a Long way! I have never returned or exchanged any one item at RD, but today I was returning some fresh basil I had purchased on Tuesday, 4/06/2021, late in the afternoon. It was black & soggy in the middle of the bag. All I wanted was to exchange my basil. Well, Miss Attitude barked at me...if you had put it in the fridge it would still be fresh. Wow this place just keeps dropping the ball they need to just to a total recall of the management in this establishment cause it's horrible. I have been going to this location over 15 years and it's getting to where I really don't like going anymore. Little by little I find myself buying less & less from them. On multiple occasions there is something always wrong with my purchase whether it's lack of quality/freshness or false advertising,the workers being less than enthusiastic to help you etc.... Quite an experience coming to this place! My dad has a membership card so I came along! Restaurant Depot is like a Sam's or Costco, specifically for restaurant owners. They have economy-sized everything!!!! Spices, meat, veggie bags, baking goods, paper goods, cleaning supplies, snacks, etc. It's geared towards bulk-sized purchases, mainly but do sell larger sized individual items. The produce is prebagged for convenience. The freezer section is sectioned off for dairy and meat. They provide jackets and gloves so it's more tolerable...for someone who shivers even in a 75 degree room, I WAS DYING. Do NOT wear sandals here!!!! The jackets are also not the cleanest, but me being cold was more important than my cleanliness needs. The meat is incredibly well-priced! If you have a lot of people over or have a large event, this your go to place for getting vast quantities of meat cheaper than your other bulk warehouses. The worst store, this store is about 12 to 15 min away from my business but always have to drive 40 to 45 min to the Dallas store because very often they never have the products that I need . Look, I don't plan on fancy when I shop at restaurant depot, but I do expect a basic level of customer service. This is the third time I've shopped here with similar experiences. The staff gave me incorrect information about the location and supply of product. On this particular trip, four different staff people gave me incorrect information about three different items. The store is not cared for. Someone dropped a glass bottle of syrup. So an employee put a caution cone on part of the affected area. 20 minutes later, no one had cleaned it up. It might still be there. Now I'm picking sticky glass out of the bottom of my shoe because I walked within 6 feet of the cone. Save yourself some frustration and shop at the W Dallas location. We actually had an employee say his boss gave him 5 minutes and he only had time to 1. pee or 2. pull down the box of product that we needed..... My mom happens to have a membership. thanks to a family friend owning a william's chicken. This place has great quality items for wholesale price. During this visit, i got some nice angus choice ribeyes for 7.50/lb and a ten pound box of tilapia fillets for 20 dollars. The ribeye was extremely tender and well marbled through out. Restaurant Depot is great to pickup bulk items for any event. They have breaded meats and seafood, raw meat and seafood, and much more. This is the place where me and my dad goes to shop for supplies at our resturant. The customer service is okay. It has a bunch of supplies for almost every resturant. I would come here if you need to buy specific things. Though today when we came there wasn't a lot of avocado which is important to me so that's a bad thing. They have a good selection of items. Some not so cheap but come in super sized packages which makes it more convenient for restaurants. Umm .. I found their pricing system a little confusing I guess you gotta get used to the place. They only have massive carts no standard carts which again makes it not so comfortable if your just shopping for small items. They will put you on hold for a minimum of 10 minutes, then someone will pick up the phone and say, "what are you hold for?" .... are you joking me? If you are like me and consider walking around the grocery store a perfect shopping day, you will love RD. Mostly, I just come here for the meat. Prices are not meant to be rock bottom but are consistently low (no basing your needs on what is on sale) and way better than the butcher shop. Selection and quality is what separates RD from the warehouse clubs and grocers. I need to avoid going here unless I have a specific purchase planned otherwise I'm like a gambler blowing my paycheck. I have been going to this place for the past 2 years. Several of the service staff are not that helpful, but there are some who go all the way in helping. We've been placing pre-orders so they are all packed and kept ready. Last time, they forgot about the order, but when I called they said they will get it ready in 1 hour. I went there after an hour, but there were still stuff that was being put on to cart. So, had to wait another 45mins to get my stuff. While Restaurant Depot maybe slow, while they maybe always stocking items, and while they maybe not as organized as some people need, I find them fantastic for having just what I need. They don't have all the fancy things Cosco or Sams, they don't have all the things such as pharmacy and non food items those stores have either. Restaurant Depot is for restaurant or small business catering. They have food, they have to go containers, foil, and things that restaurants may need to help you enjoy your sit down meal. This is not a cosco or sams with fast checkouts and self check out lanes. If you go, be prepared to have to stand in line, to walk in the freezer, with a nasty coat on u les you have your own lol! But I've never been disappointed with what I've purchased there. I've catered wedding receptions, and baby showers, even a book signing. And I always make time to stay for a good two hours. This place is so hectic! They're constantly stocking inventory, leave pallets everywhere, and it would be nice to walk through the store without having to constantly rush out of the way for people speeding down the aisles in forklifts! The employees openly complain about each other. The cashiers are always complaining about wanting to go home, and check the time every few minutes and curse when it's not close to the end of their shift. A few weeks ago, I came to get some fish on sale. I noticed they only had a couple left, so I asked the lady in the seafood area if there were any more. She said there was more in the back, rambled on about how they close at 5:30 (it was only 4, so idk what she was getting at), and that she would only go get them if I bought the entire 40lb. case, otherwise I can come back another day. Fine. So I returned a week later. The customer before me bought all of the fish, so I asked her again if there were any more. She gave me the same response as before. She's not going to get them for me unless I buy them all. This time, I explained to her that she told me this last week, and I came back today just for the fish, and that I can't keep coming up here, as it's a 1 1/2 hr drive. She finally agreed to get more fish, but not without making a snarky remark. As she walked away, she muttered to me "I hope they don't go bad in your car!" It's never a pleasant experience. Good prices. Good selection. Horrendous service. We've come and bought from this location less and less over the years. There has been no noticeable improvement in service or quality of personnel to date. The folks working there, with few exceptions, are incredibly dispassionate/apathetic.
