We happened upon it just by looking up restaurants close to our hotel and it wound up being our favorite place we ate in our whole 10 days in Switzerland! The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming. When you walk up, there are tables and chairs throughout the walkway and then an entire open area of tables off of the outside bar for a fun hangout. The building appears to be an old house turned restaurant and is so beautiful on the outside and so warm and inviting on the inside. The menu had accommodations for everyone - which is so nice as I am a lactose intolerant pescatarian! I got the beetroot and black bean burger both nights I was there and it was to die for!! I ate the entire thing both nights and just wanted more (it was a big burger though)!! I also had a watermelon spritz which was so refreshing! You can tell the owners/workers get to know their regulars as I saw them stopping by tables and chatting - which was just so fun to see! If you're in Zurich, I highly recommend popping by! My only regret was that I never saved room for the brownie dessert!

The buffalo wings were tasty and quite spicy, so if you don't enjoy a higher spice level... this wouldn't be for you. The service was great and our server answered our questions and was so kind to our doggy companion! I would definitely come back to enjoy this spot again.

Yelp Review 2026 #64:…read more I'm not vegetarian and definitely not vegan. But I will dabble with the veg from time to time. Hiltl is popular for being the world's oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world. Here's information I will share that I wish was available before planning to come here. You must make a reservation for lunch/ dinner because that's when they're busy. Breakfast is for walk-ins and they don't do reservations. Hop on their website and be sure you're on the right location because they have several within a 2-mile radius...some on the same street. I went here to try their breakfast buffet. I wasn't sure how busy they got for breakfast so, I got here at 6:30am because I got the wrong information online! They open at 7am. Different locations have different hours. Check their website for actual hours and don't trust review site information because it's wrong! They're not busy for breakfast at all. There's 2 ways to do their buffet. You can pay a fixed price and fill your plate multiple times or go and fill your plate once and pay based on the weight of your food - you get free bread. I did the pay-by-weight option. I have a whole day of eating planned so, I wasn't about to fill up for breakfast. When they opened at 7am, they were still putting the food out one by one. By 7:20, all the food was out which was fine. I was in no rush. The spread includes fresh fruits, cheeses, butter, margarine, cheesecake, chocolate mousse, mango mousse, mango chia pudding, banana chocolate brownie crumble, a pear dessert (with cream, vanilla and orange), rosti, scrambled eggs, potato salad, tomato and mozzarella salad, beets, chickpeas, olives, couscous, corn salad, olives, asparagus, green peas, feta cheese, hardboiled eggs, curry salad, dolmades, broccoli and edamame, artichoke salad, bulgur salad, tabbouleh, orecchiette tofu salad, Thai salad, hummus, guacamole, muhammara, etc. They have 6 types of bread. Slice a piece and toast it yourself. Vegan and vegetarian food tend to taste strongly of coconut/ coconut milk and I don't like that. My favorites from the buffet include chocolate mousse, mango mousse, banana chocolate brownie crumble, dolmades, asparagus, orecchiette tofu salad, and Thai salad. I got a mango lassi to drink which I didn't like. It had curry powder. Service was pleasant. The restaurant was clean.

However, we were a bit disappointed in the taste of the food. We'd tried 2 other self-serve buffet-style plant-based places in Zurich and Lucerne and were very impressed, so maybe we went in with high expectations. The selection is smaller than the other restaurants we tried, and the dishes just didn't have my preferred textures and flavors. The dishes certainly seemed healthier since there was basically no fried food, but the protein they used (tofu, seitan, etc) didn't quite hit the spot. They only had a tiramisu for dessert which had a strange aftertaste. I think it is still a decent vegan option in Zurich, and prices were comparable. Maybe the experience depends on personal preferences, but I personally wouldn't feel like going again unless in a pinch. They do have a nice little store area with vegan products and a wonderful variety of gelato/sorbet flavors. I did really enjoy the passion fruit and stracciatella gelato! They had a new dragonfruit flavor that was good but tasted like cotton candy rather than dragon fruit. The staff were friendly, and the restaurant itself is beautiful and has plenty of seating!

Being a buffet, the service is pretty minimal, but the team was helpful intro-ing my partner and I to the setup, as well as settling up at the end. While buffet meals tend to get a little blurry in my recollection, some of my favourite options in the trays were the indian style dishes, as well as the more fermented foods. If I hadn't filled up on the buffet, I would have really liked to try their gelato. If it's a warm day, leave room for dessert! As all places in Zurich, it is very pricey but if you've already had a couple meals elsewhere it perhaps won't be as much of a sticker shock.

Needless the say, the place is not cheap, but worth every Swiss Frank that you will leave in this establishment. The food is outstanding and the wine pairings are just perfect. The elegance in each dish, the creativity and mix of ingredients, and subtle flavors were the features I enjoyed the most. The place is immaculate in its austere decor and the location is just the perfect setting for a relaxing and enjoyable dinner experience. Service is very professional without being stiff. Just Swiss made.

One of the most amazing Vegetarian (let alone Vegan) meals I've ever had. Did the "gourmet"…read more(tasting) menu which consisted of an amuse bouche, three savory and one sweet dish. The amuse bouche I'm not exactly sure what it was... it involved some red quinoa and a semi-sweet sauce, along with possibly some diced root veggies. Next followed the lambs lettuce salad with chestnuts, orange fillets and some sort of crustini. From there it was a celery soup poured over diced saffron apples. The combination of flavors was amazing and the soup was deliciously thick. Following the soup was a pumpkin "quiche" which was thankfully on the smaller side but quite rich, creamy and enclosed in such a wonderful pastry. A sprig of oregano stood out of it and complimented the autumn dish. The last savory dish was a house made spinach "root" ravioli. It was three giant ones - the pasta simply perfect and some microgreens to go along. There was optional white truffle which of course I had them put on. Happened in front of my eyes, done to taste, with a scale gauging how excessively you were going :) The dessert, a chocolate cream with some (I think) poached fruit on top was fantastic. My only regret is that I was too full to put much of a dent in it! I did the tasting with the wine pairings which worked out perfectly. Each perfectly tied to and complimenting the dish. Thanks very much to the two servers who took me through that meal - simply amazing!

As it was our first time eating raclette, we asked our server to walk us through the menu. Lily was exceedingly helpful in explaining the differences in cheeses and their flavors, and she was also very attentive and checked in on us throughout the meal. I noticed that her welcoming demeanor was also shared by her colleagues who were waiting on the other tables around us. My family took Lily up on her recommendations, and we ordering one Klara and one Willi, each with a side of sausages, as well as one original tarte flambé and one vegi tarte flambée. The food was all very delicious!! My personal highlights from the meal were the sausage dipped in the Willi cheese along with the onions and potatoes that were served with the dish. The tartes also had very thin, yummy crusts topped with raclette cheese. The side of pickles provided a tangy contrast to the rest of the meal which I liked. We ended our meal with a warm chocolate cake and lemon sorbet. I'm not really one for alcohol, so I found the vodka in the sorbet to be a bit too strong for me. However, the chocolate cake with the jam and vanilla ice cream was very good and had just the right amount of chewiness. I wish that I could replace my local Cheesecake Factory with a Raclette Factory instead so that I could enjoy Swiss cheese melted over bread, sausages, and potatoes all the time. Oh well, perhaps it's just another excuse to visit Switzerland again one day :)
