Along the river, you'll find this cool chick local brewery serving some of the best brats and beer cheese soup I've ever had. You can sit outside and watch the tourists walk by or across the Lucerne bridge or you can sit inside and enjoy the atmosphere. A full array of local beers are available to choose from as well as some of the creamiest beer cheese soup I've ever had. Of course who doesn't love a German brat served perfectly in a portion that can more than feed one person. Our service was great. Our atmosphere was fantastic and the food was more than enough. Terrific Bavarian food! I was here with a large group from my tour to celebrate my birthday. Even though it was getting late and we had a large group, they still accommodated us and we were all able to have a pint and a great meal, albeit they did not give me a free dessert or any compensation for the occasion. That is okay. Considering this is Europe and the portion sizes are never going to be the gluttonous amount you would get in the States, the size of the entries are exceptional. It also helps the food is absolutely delicious. I am still thinking about my entree two weeks after coming back. That is how good the food is. Being right on the lake gives it a nice feel to summer. This place is wonderful, they have extensive indoor and outdoor seating options, the tables by the water are breathtaking taking (so many swan sightings!). We had a couple of beers & Spritz. We loved our visit here. It looked too crowded from the busy patio scene, but in fact there was plenty of seating on the cavernous inside. Although we only speak and read English, the menu (full of German and Swiss delicacies) was navigable enough. The very attentive waitstaff seems all bilingual, the prices fair for the location and the service prompt enough. The ambience and the atmosphere are more "beer hall" than fine dining, but Lucerne is a "let her hair down and relax" kind of place and Rathaus Brauerei does what they do, quite well. What was AMAZING was meeting Vanessa, our server! She was professional, knowledgeable, charming, and welcoming!! Her recommendations for dinner were 'spot on'! You feel as though she was a friend who knew you for years. While drinking a delicius beer, we enjoyed a very sweet conversation with Nike, the establishment manager! The beer was excellent and the food was decent, but unfortunately our dining experience tonight was very disappointing. We genuinely felt a touch of racism in the service. When we arrived, we were seated outdoors. Every table had a candle light except ours, leaving us unable to even see the menu. The waitress in charge of our section was initially friendly, pointing out that we could use the English menu. However, when it came time to order, things changed. We raised our hands and tried to get her attention several times, even making eye contact, but she never acknowledged us. She moved between other tables, and whenever she came near, we politely called out "excuse me madam." She ignored us every single time. This went on for almost 10 minutes before we were finally able to place an order. When the food arrived, she dropped the plates heavily on our table and said, "Your food, finally," followed by, "I have many guests to serve, not only you." At that moment we realized she had in fact noticed our attempts earlier but chose to ignore us. I want to stress that we were not trying to rush her at all -- we only thought she hadn't noticed us. Even a small gesture like eye contact, or saying "just a moment" while passing by, would have been enough for us to wait patiently. Instead, she sped past us after hearing our "excuse me," without any acknowledgment. This made us feel deeply disrespected. Later, I found similar stories from other Asian diners on social media, sometimes in this restaurant and sometimes elsewhere, which makes me think this is not an isolated case. We had a perfect day in Lucerne, but this dinner left us feeling disappointed. I want to leave this review to remind other Asian customers to be aware. read more

All four of us enjoyed this restaurant very much. It was the best restaurant so far on our trip. An important thing for you to know is this restaurant is extremely popular and books up quickly. If you want to eat here you should get a reservation a day or two in advance. We started with some of their house beer. My wife and I had the Rathhaus beer and our daughter and her fiancé had the Christmas beer. We thought both beers were good. For dinner, my wife and I split the beer sausage plate and the farmer's bratwurst plate. We thought both tasted very good. Service was very good and our server spoke perfect English. After arriving in Lucerne late in the day we were looking for a place that serves Swiss fare along the river. We decided to try Rathaus Brauerei as it seemed to fit what we were looking for. We came to this popular brewery twice, and both times it was filled with with locals and tourists alike. Both times were served by friendly and lovely waitresses. This brewery makes just two beers, a lager and fruity amber beer that can't be found anywhere else. Its also one of the few Luzern restaurants open late on a Sunday night in a country that mostly closes down on Sundays. Visit #1: Large 500ml Amber beers are delicious and priced at a reasonable $8.50. We also shared an $11.50 apple strudel, which was sweet and spectacular, and presented beautifully...get this! Visit #2: Dinner! We got Amber beers again, yum! $26.50 Farmers Sausage and Rosti...this thing is long, thick, meaty, and delicious. The Rosti potatoes made a perfect hearty side, and the best Rosti I had in Switzerland. $33 Luzern Trout...fresh grilled local fish covered in a creamy lemon sauce...delicious! It also came with rice and a nice fresh side salad. At the end of this dinner, the waitress spent 5 minutes trying to fix our bill because she overcharged us by 50 cents. We told her not to worry about the 50 cents, but she was determined to fix it, and she did. Lovely gal! Brilliant! While these prices might seem high, this is Switzerland, and tax and tip are already included in prices, so its actually quite reasonable here. We left that last waitress at extra $2 because she was so darn nice. read more

The beer was great. They know there beer is tasty so they are fine only having 2 for beer. I would give the brewery 4 stars for the beer, but definitely, the restaurant is definitely a 3 star for me at most. We were sat in a corner of the restaurant portion of the brewery and it was so hard to track down a server to just order our food. They brought 2 types of bread to start. We ordered the Ratskellertopf which was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. It is a german soup with beef shoulder filet, bone marrow, frankfurter, and rathaus beer sausages in a beef stock with onions, potatoes, carrots, and a side of home-made horseradish mustard. It sounds amazing... but it did not taste amazing. The soup was so salty and 1 of the sausages were comparable to Oscar Mayor sausages you buy from the supermarket. The best part was the bone marrow. Overall, it was cool to try a german style beef stock soup, but I would never get this again, especially for 35 Francs (at the time the conversion was nearly 1:1 so it cost about 35 USD). If I could rate the Ratskellertopf alone, I'd easily give it 2 stars... The Swiss veal cordon bleu was much better than the Ratskellertopf, but still lacking. The noodles were buttery and the veal had a nice crust to it. Great for sharing and very similar to the German Schnitzel you might find throughout Switzerland or Germany. It was just good, not amazing. I probably would not get this again at the price of 39 Francs or about 39 USD. read more
