We searched for a true fondue house in Lucerne, and this was the place we selected. The service was excellent, and the fondue devine and just what we hoped for. We got the "half and half" fondue of organic cheeses, and enjoyed it with the bread, potatoes, steamed veggies, and bratwurst. We also had a bottle of Le Volte, as recommended by the sommelier - and Italian wine that paired well with the cheeses. The nutty flavor of the cheese was delightful with the accompaniments. This place was very touristy. The menu is way too large. We had a reservation. They seated us in a nice spot that had not been cleaned yet but we soon noticed that a student tour group of about 40 American middle schoolers was there. They were extremely loud and unpleasant. The restaurant did nothing to control the situation. What was supposed to be a romantic meal turned into a middle school cafeteria. We waited about 15 minutes and there was still no service. When we were seated the waitress said she had a lot of tables and was working on her own. It looked like the restaurant only had attention for the giant tour group. I understand wanting to have business on a Tuesday night but they should just close to the rest of the public and not allow reservations if they are going to cater to tour groups. Doing Cheese Fondue one last time before bidding adieu to Switzerland, we ended up at Fondue House Du Pont ( bit of a maze to all through before you arrive here though it's conveniently located close to the Bahnoff). We didn't have a reservation though there were a few tables to be filled and we got a spot in there. We ordered the fondue with bread and potatoes ( unlimited bread and potatoes) along with steamed vegetables. They also have an option of spicy oil (chilli inside oil) which we gladly accepted for the table and enjoyed with our bites. We came here on our 1st evening in Lucerne as fondue rookies. Because we had a reservation on an otherwise light night for the business, we were shown to a balcony seat overlooking the river and hubbub below. It seemed because we had made the reservation. The super helpful staff guided us through the menu and we had a fun time dipping various breads, meats and veggies into a seemingly endlessly cheesy broth. Maybe it was touristic, but to us, the experience seemed quite authentic. And the scenery was nothing shirt of spectacular and the prices more than fair. I haven't had fondue in a hot minute so I was expecting small portions, but geez, they give you so much food. We ordered basically 4 meals for 3 people, but it could have easily fed 6 people. I came here with my friends while we were visiting Switzerland and we had an amazing time; definitely a meal to remember. We arrived aroun 3pm on a weekday, so it was pretty much empty. We were seated in the back, but still facing the water (nothing beats a scrumptious meal with a scenic view). We decided on the 3 course - cheese, bourguignon, and chocolate option. Our server was nice and friendly and explained everything thoroughly (in English). We got started with a really good house mix salad and then the feast began. The bourguignon came with chicken and steak, while the cheese was served with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, potatoes, and other great dipping foods. The 6 sauces were also delicious. Lastly, the dessert course, which I always have room for- rich, warm, melted chocolate with an assortment of fruits (pineapple, melon, strawberries, apples) and marshmallows. This meal was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the entire trip for me. Its nice that they gave us plenty of time to enjoy (did not feel rushed at all) so we ended up eating nearly everything over the 2.5 hours.
