Risotto with lobster, chevre and apricot jelly. Excellent!!!

The idea of the restaurant, with its two chefs and two menus, already makes it very interesting. But what makes it great is that the food really is amazing and service is just perfect. Everything we ordered was delicious. The amount of food that comes in each course is somewhere between the usual entrée and the usual main course sizes. You may choose any 2 or any 3 from the menus, which is very good because it allows you to taste many different dishes. And they are all worth it. For real!

Amazing dinner with a unique concept! Highly recommend this restaurant. Staff was friendly and helpful and the food was amazing.

The menu was varied - I ordered arctic char, veal and quail, with a foil gras appetizer and two desserts.

My sister and I stopped by spontaneously during are trip to La Malbaie to celebrate US thanksgiving in Canada. Chez Truchon is a fine dining experience build into a home I can only describe as 'elevated cozy' perfected with the friendly and warm staff. We both ordered slight variations of the 'smaller' pre-fixed menu. Notice how I add a quotation because the portion was anything but small, instead it was 3 flavor packed taste of French-Canadian cuisine interjected with delicious complementary tasting dished and I almost forgot the crispy and chewy dinner bread that made a strong introduction to our meal. I have to end this review highly recommending any traveler to not miss this restaurant. From appetizer to dessert, the food was excellent! This dinner stop ended up as a highlight and unforgettable part of my trip to La Malbaie.

Then came dinner, which was phenomenal. I started with the Ceviche du St-Laurent, which was made with such fresh scallops, sprinkled with finely diced pepper medley, olive oil, and balsamic vinaigrette. The dish was perfectly salted and peppered to bring out the precise fresh quality of the scallops. My husband enjoyed the spinach salad (Salde d'epinards et effiloche de canard roti au miel, vinaigrette au yogourt). He LOVED it! Dinner, for me, was the Grilled halibut steak, tagliatelle pasta with coriander oil and vegetables (Pave de fletan grille, tagliatelles a l'huile de coriander et legumes du marche). Halibut was cooked perfectly on the outside with some raw-ness in the middle, which was just right! My husband had the grilled pork chop, apple and sortilege liquor chutney, french fries, and vegetables (cote de port grillee, chutney aux pommel et sortilege, pommel de terre frites et legumes du marche). Pork was not overcooked at all! Fries were so, so, so good! High quality meal, divine atmosphere, and intimate fine dining experience!! My daughter enjoyed her chicken fingers and french fries. She does not even like french fries, but she said that it was the best french fries she ever had! She NEVER liked french fries...but today she thought it was so good! Also had the chocolate cake for dessert, and it was absolutely phenomenal! They have a Thursday night sushi happy hour special, so we plan on checking it out! You cannot beat the service, the car service from Le Manoir Richelieu, and the beautiful views of the St. Laurent River at night! Breathtakingly gorgeous!

With the dynamic trio of Philippe Racine, Philippe Fournier, and Andréa Beauseigle at the helm, this newly minted bistro is not just a meal; it's an experience that speaks to the heart of local gastronomy. As we stepped into the inviting atmosphere of Bistro St. Malo, we were immediately struck by the relaxed ambience that feels both chic and comforting. The decor is a perfect marriage of rustic elegance and modern flair, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. The menu, crafted with both passion and precision, beckoned us to explore a variety of tempting dishes. We kicked off our culinary journey with the Mussels Marinière, bathed in a heavenly concoction of wine and garlic. Each bite was a succulent reminder of the sea, perfectly paired with crusty bread that could easily become a new best friend. Next on the list was the Soupe à l'Oignon, a classic French onion soup that was nothing short of a warm hug in a bowl. The rich broth, adorned with a gooey layer of melted cheese, transported us straight to a cozy Parisian bistro. Now, if you think escargots are just a fancy way to say "snails," think again. The Escargots Gratinés at Bistro St. Malo are a revelation, baked to perfection with a garlicky herb butter that made us rethink our long-held beliefs about these little treasures. For the main event, we indulged in the Joue de Bœuf sauce Robert, a sous-vide masterpiece that had been lovingly cooked for 30 hours. The beef cheek was so tender it practically melted on the fork, paired with a creamy potato purée and vegetables roasted in duck fat--a dish that could make even the most steadfast vegetarian reconsider their choices. We couldn't resist diving into the Ragoût de la Mer, a seafood stew that was a celebration of the ocean's bounty. With scallops, shrimp, lobster, cod, tuna, and salmon mingling in a rich bisque, this dish was a symphony of flavors that sang the praises of the fresh local products so central to the bistro's philosophy. Bistro St. Malo is more than just a meal; it's a culinary journey that pays homage to both French tradition and the vibrant tastes of the Mediterranean. If you find yourself wandering the charming streets of Quebec City, do yourself a favor and make your way to 75 St-Paul Street. You might just discover your new favorite dining spot.
