Albert's Corner turned out to be the perfect place. The inside is kind of dark with lots of black wood and separated into little cozy alcoves. Perfect for us to hide from all the other well-dressed diners. The beer was good and cold and we get very good food. Chanterelles are in season so I got Schnitzel with a chanterelle sauce and boiled potatoes. Just the perfect dish after a hike. Service was very friendly and efficient. We even received a shot of Schierker Feuerstein to end our meal and help us hike back to our hotel. We'll definitely stop here again when we're back in Bad Harzburg.

Like every other larger city of the western world Hannover has a wide variety of hip and modern food and beverage concepts to offer. Every now and again I like to settle for the traditional simplistic approach of regional dishes that can be found at the Gaststätte Kaisers in the Nordstadt. Besides the, in my opinion, best curry wurst (a large sausage with curry sauce and fries) in the northan hemisphere and really good schnitzel with a variety of sauces to choose from, steak and more delicious dishes the seasonal menus vary from asparagus specialities in autum to chanterelles in Summer and kale with smoked sausages in winter are also worth a try. The Kaiser's combines the best of two worlds combining the vibe and setting of a traditional north German pub, with british influences (huge whiskey selection, fish and chips with malt vinegar...) and a traditional German kitchen without beeing to fancy nor shabby. The place is very lively and the service is very friendly and flexible if you like to modify your orders, which I love doing.

Didn't disappoint! Our party of 4 ordered various dishes... I did the pork knuckle, 2 types of schnitzels, and steak ... and all were A-okay! Portions were on the larger side, and the prices seemed to be above average, but all everything tasted good! They also make craft beer, and the one I tried was A-okay! Not the most heart friendly meal, but what the heck, I don't visit Germany every month! Once is 30 years must be okay! ;) Lots of seating inside, and covered tables outside. We ate our lunch during the weekday and we could just walk up without any reservations. So a nice (very filling) experience for me!

Absolutely everything about this place is a bit naff, starting with the name which implies a romantic hideaway in the mountains. Instead it is a pub housed in an ugly bungalow in the suburbs of a small town in Lower Saxony. I didn't grow up around here but was still overcome by a sense of nostalgia - a regular gave me a funny look when I took that photo of a cigarette machine, these have long disappeared from British establishments. My sister has been coming here ever since she went to the nearby university. But students, old and young, make up only part of the clientele. The place was packed with diners of all ages on a Saturday night - Suedklause is now at least twice as big as in the old days, having taken over the unit next door. The decor hasn't been updated much since the 70's and neither has the menu, hence the many comments on tinned salads (there's a long list of German language reviews) which used to be acceptable accompaniments to your favourite meat dish back then. I actually had no idea that what makes a proper "currywurst" is not just the typical curry sauce but the fact that the sausage itself is deep fried rather than simply fried or grilled. The portions are massive and the fries the best I have had in ages. I rolled home fat and happy. I don't think they have many vegetarian options on the menu, but that is hardly the point. People come here for guilty pleasures of deep fried feel good food. Apparently the chicken dinners are legendary.

Point taken....however, after then sitting at a table inside where the waitress led us and slammed down the menus, presumably in disgust of "the Americans," for 20 minutes without being acknowledged...we headed to McDonalds instead. People come to a restaurant to pay money to eat food. Those who work there, whether you like it or not, last time I checked part of serving is to actually acknowledge the human guests so that they can order and pay money for food so the restaurant can stay open and you can stay employed. Take a class in hospitality.

Having tired of the standard German breakfast, my husband and I who just moved here from the US in 2010 were looking for a different menu, preferably something fresh that didn't involve huge amounts of nitrates or sausage. That's when the smoked salmon stack at 11a became a real game-changer. Staying true to the greenhouse motif, there seems to always be a little green on every dish. A salmon Benedict without the hollandaise, the salmon stack has thin slices of crustless white toast corners with slices of their own cured salmon, deliciously dressed salad greens, and a poached egg. They even have a naughty English breakfast with fried eggs, bacon, cheese baked tomato, plenty of arugula, fried toast and beans. Breakfasts came with a glass of prosecco or juice. Their standard menu of house favorites is supplemented with a daily menu that changes to the local ingredients in season. We never know what to expect on the daily menu, but part of the fun is arriving one day to find they have an organic pasta bolognese made from locally hunted venison only to return another day and find they've already replaced that dish with an amazing organic lamb roast with roasted organic farmer's market veggies. The dishes are imagination with an easy hand and the prices are well within reason. While this may not be the place to take Grandma--unless your Grandma is cool like mine is!--the food at 11a strives to give your palate and the planet the respect it deserves. Once you get over your need for white glove treatment while you're in Linden, because hello you're in LINDEN, you can focus on what really counts: the fantastic fare before you.

My only complaint is that my vegetables were slightly overcooked for my taste (but were certainly more crisp than 99% of other restaurant in Hannover) Anyways, this is the best restaurant I have found so far in Hannover, and I plan to go back often.
