This is an excellent place to stop on the way between Uxmal and Kabah or in the area. The food here…read morewas excellent, they were out of poc chuc sadly but we got cochinita pibil, pollo pibil, salbuches, the sopa de lima, and the vegetable soup. The pibil was excellent the chicken was moist and tender, the soups were flavorful and hearty, the vegetable soup especially feeling like a viable option for vegans and vegetarians rather than a compromise. We made extensive use of the foosball table during the wait which was worth it for the amazing food.

Tasty Authentic Mayan Lunch in the village of Santa Elena - Close to Uxmal and the Ruta Puuc!…read more I visited Restaurant Chac-Mool for lunch on November 23rd with a friend, after touring the Uxmal Ruins and on my way to the Kabah Ruins. This local restaurant was located along Highway 261 (left hand side if coming from the Uxmal), between Uxmal and Kabah in the small and traditional Mayan village of Santa Elena. For those renting a car, like I did, there was a gravel area for parking across the highway (on the right hand side) from the restaurant. My friend and I were the only ones at the restaurant for lunch, which made for a cozy, peaceful and relaxing environment. We chose to sit on the second floor balcony, which had a nice view of the surrounding jungle. There was also seating inside on the main floor as well as outside on the ground level. The décor and look of the restaurant was very charming, colourful and unique. I ordered the pollo pibil with a side of guacamole and chips. The food was so delicious and everything tasted very fresh and authentic. While eating my meal, I kept hearing what sounded like chickens squawking from behind the restaurant and I couldn't help but wonder if that was where my meal came from. The restaurant serves a large variety of traditional Yucatecan, Mexican and Mayan dishes. The staff were so friendly, attentive, charming and warm and the service was excellent. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at this local, family-owned restaurant and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Uxmal and/or through the Ruta Puuc!

Chef Arturo has done a great job integrating local and traditional ingredients, spices and techniques into very interesting dishes. Check out the wine list for some very nice wines. Service is very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Servers Carlos (dinner) and Jocelyn (breakfast and lunch) were great. They were very helpful with our limited Spanish. Given the US dollar exchange rate, the prices were extremely reasonable. The setting is beautiful. Check out the pictures on the hotel website. https://www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-information/restaurant/cpehl-hacienda-puerta-campeche-a-luxury-collection-hotel-campeche/ The added benefit is that the restaurant was never crowded. This place is comparable to the best restaurants in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, or anywhere. We tried other places in Campeche and they cannot compare.; If you are looking for a unique gastronomic experience give it a try.

The service and interior are great and let me tell ya there is no better feeling than a well air conditioned and circulated room after sweating your a$$ off for hours from the Yucatan humidity. Our meal started off with a collection of bread and a delicious green melon agua fresca. We were then served consomé de pollo (chicken soup), grilled Yucatán chicken with beans and rice, and flan. The assortment of bread didn't look the most fresh so I ended up not trying it. The agua fresca was probably my most favorite part of my meal - exactly what I needed to cool off. The grilled yucatan chicken tasted almost like tandoori! It was a low on salt, but well flavored. The flan's texture wasn't smooth and it was room temperature, so it wasn't something I really enjoyed. The total price with our package deal ended up being 40 pesos - so excellent pricing! The server was very helpful and attentive. I really appreciated another server preparing coffee for me despite being closed!
