Are you on the way to/from Andorra or rural Catalunya, then you must eat at the restaurant at Paradores Cardona!
I was staying in the castle during a local holiday and made advance reservations (highly recommended) for 9pm and it was busy. Fine dining at its best, the service is attentive and unobtrusive. They have great service instincts here!
Very pretty dining room with Catalan ceilings and castle arches with throne like seating. White tablecloths and bread/drink service add to the ambience. The menu has various sections based on cuisine type and ingredient sources, so harder to see apps vs mains, but so many tasty options despite a condensed two page menu.
We started with a modern take on a traditional local appetizer that had mashed potatoes and broccoli (instead of cabbage) with an amazing savory sauce. On top it had the most crispy fried jamón, almost like bacon!
My partner had a lamb leg that was grilled on an open flame with a layered potato thing that was super tasty, if a bit gamey. My pork ribs were off the chart good, with a dense and sticky glaze. The chestnuts and apricots paired perfectly with it and the squash puree.
