Picture a pizza place where the service is more Brazilian than punctuality - charmingly laid-back!…read moreNave Mãe rolls with the "island time" vibe that Floripa is famous for. They took Italian pizza classics and gave them a Brazilian plot twist. Like a soap opera for your taste buds! The menu reads like a love letter to cheese - lots of it, melted just right. Their calabresa pizza is so good it'll make you forget about your ex faster than a Carnaval romance. The staff operates on what we'll call "Floripa Standard Time" - somewhere between "daqui a pouco" and "já já." But they're so friendly you'll feel like you're at your Brazilian auntie's house, if your auntie had a wood-fired pizza oven and a professional license to serve caipirinhas. The place has that perfect mix of beach casual and "I actually put on real shoes for this." The decor looks like someone googled "cozy pizza place" and then added some Brazilian flair - which somehow totally works. Pro tip: Order that extra caipirinha - it makes the wait time feel like part of the charm rather than a test of patience. And yes, putting ketchup on your pizza here is still considered a crime against humanity, even in Brazil. Come hungry, leave happy, and don't expect to rush - this is Floripa, after all. Your pizza will arrive exactly when it means to, like a surfer catching the perfect wave. Note, I'm Brazilian, native from Floripa. I know my island ;)

Pure genius. 10/10 would eat again!

We found it on google, in the section "best restaurants in Florianopolis". We arrived around 7pm and were the only customers in the restaurant besides a large group which one in the other room of the restaurant. By the time we left, both rooms of the restaurant, the patio and the bar were all completely full, and a Brazilian jazz band was playing very nice music in the main room. For diner, got 2 pizzas, one with artichoke and one with 4 cheeses. Both of them were just amazingly good and tasty. For drinks, we got the home-brewed beer and a bottle of Cabernet. The restaurant was launching their home-brewed beers, and offering a 1 buy, 1 offer deal for the occasion. The beer was pretty interesting and refreshing. The best of the night was the deserts: we got the chocolate cake (with vanilla ice cream) and the Pineapple with cinnamon and sugar (forgot the name, sorry). Just unforgettable. The service was very good and fast as well: we did not need to speak English but they had an English menu in case you need it. The price was also very reasonable, less than 25$ per person. This restaurant completely deserves to be on the best restaurant list. You must try it if you are visiting Florianopolis.

The variety of pizzas will satisfy any taste, and the toppings are generous and it's truly a real authentic pizza crust. The quality of the toppings were excellent as was the dessert. This is the best pizza I've had in Florianopolis, and I highly recommend it.

I recognise the place is not cheap (over 1000 Reis for two, both times), however I think it is more than worth it for such incredible food, expansive wine list, delightful ambiance, and welcoming hosts. Personally, coming from NYC the prices seemed an absolute steal for the quality, but I understand Mar Massas is an outlier in the area in terms of cost (and quality). The food is absolutely to die for. I highly recommend the Octopus (Polpo Oro) starter - one of the best preparations I've ever had - and give one of the bruschetta's a shot, you can't go wrong. The pastas are excellent, frankly some of the best I've had outside of Italy. I had the Spaghetti Montechiaro (both times), with two steak filet medallions, perfectly cooked to my taste topped with melted burata (it simply does not get better than that), while my girlfriend had one of the seafood pastas the first time, and the Tagliatelle do Tio Blasco the second - which was probably the best dish we've had there thus far. To top things off Mar Massas has one of the more extensive wine lists I've ever seen, with a superb and diverse collection including some true rarities. Most shocking, to me, was the discovery that the lovely host, Ana Rita, is both co-owner and one of the chefs. Our first visit she was performing all three roles, with the aide of only one waiter - truly incredible! I can't speak highly enough of this place: If you're in Floripa and want to experience the best food the island has to offer, you must make the trip. You won't regret it.
