Great atmosphere and friendly employees. They speak English very well. Food and drinks were amazing as well. Try the octopus.

What a find-don't miss this hidden gem. We had clams with rice and husband sword fish- both were excellent and the wine available very good!

When you arrive on the island and someone asks, "do you like beef"? You know they're going to…read morerecommend a good place to eat. This is what happened on our arrival and my friend was picking up his rental car. We were told this was the restaurant to eat at. After a day of sight seeing we arrived just as the restaurant was opening for the night. It's nice that they have a private parking lot on the side of the building because the front walkway is essentially the street. It's safe to walk on but I wouldn't suggest stumbling. We were a party of four adventurous eaters so the menu was right up our alley. After a quick perusal of the offerings and a suggestion from our server we ended up getting all the starters (bread, butter, smoked sausage, & cheese), the Azorean dish (essentially a meat platter), the pork head stew, the regional stew and the meat plate (a cutting board full of steaks). Our server made sure we didn't over order, because we were prepared to order more. The starters came quickly. The cheese is a soft fresh cheese and it is accompanied by a pepper topping which pairs perfectly. Smear it on the bread and you're in luck. If you're smart save some of the cheese and pepper topping and serve it with the regional stew and fries and you won't regret holding on to it. The smoked sausage was a beef sausage and was smoked before it was finished with a hard sear because the outside had a terrific crispy texture while the inside had great smoke ring and a contrasting softer juicy center. We were served the Azorean plate as part of our starters (which has pork ribs, black pudding, pork sausage).

Ambiance, food and service was great! Probably one of our favorites stops while in Terceira. We…read moretried all the appetizers...beef marrow was absolutely delicious. Should have ordered 2 for a party of 7. Alcatra for 2 was perfect amount and massa was delicious as well. Don't recall all of the other dishes we ordered but it was all great. Loved the tradition decor.

I'm not very prone to hyperbole, but this place deserves to be a Michelin rated restaurant. It's…read moreabsurd that this place is under any sort of radar. It should be up there with the best of them. You should be travelling to Terceira just to eat here. I'm about to go re-rate, and lower the rating on every other restaurant I ate at on this trip because nothing was comparable. Had I eaten here on my first day, everything else would pale by comparison, and probably ruin the vacation. So I guess by that measure, it's probably a good thing that I ate here on the second to last day of the trip! Okay, so let me start by telling you where we failed, so you can do better. Call and make a reservation the morning of the day BEFORE you plan to eat here (so approx 36 hrs ahead). The reason being, there is no menu here! You just tell them what you want, and they'll tell you what's possible given the farm/supply situation. If you call too late (like we did), you'll be limited to the a la carte options (which were still amazing), but the other way is much more intimate. Roberto or his wife will have a discussion with you on the phone to plan your party's meal. Some of the exotic options include goat, duck, rabbit, a whole roasted pig, but again... Depends on what's available. If you screw up and are too late, upon arrival, Roberto will invite you into the kitchen and show you what's fresh and available right now. The options seem to usually include grilled fish, pork ribs or steak. Your appetizers are cheese or lapas. Though we missed out on the curated menu option, the a la carte experience was still out of this world. The fish was the best we had on the whole trip by far. The cheese was also the best as well. Their desserts were decadent. And all the while Roberto or his wife would check in on us, stop to chit chat, and it just made the whole evening that much more personal. As with other places we found, tables do not turn over here. Your meal will take at least a couple hrs, and no one is in any rush. The personal touch here is phenomenal. It's an experience you won't soon forget, and for sure, the next time I come back here I'm going to plan well ahead so we get the full experience. I sincerely hope they can keep it going this way! Bravo!

I don't know what I can say about Beira Mar... it is an absolute seafood lover's dream come true…read more Everything is caught that day from the lampas to the fish, ready to be prepared as you find suitable or let the chef and staff season it traditionally. The seafood soup/chowder/bisque bread bowl is a MUST, as it is foolishly cheap for what can be a whole meal for a person. Bread is baked fresh that day, in house. The fish can be done a few different ways, but best split and grilled (per our server's suggestion). There will be butter, there will be herbs, there will BE GARLIC!!! It's basically heaven from the wood or charcoal fired grills delivered straight to your table... after you have finished your soup/chowder and lampas of course (think mussels meet escargot). Reservations are almost a must here, as the locals love it as much as tourists do and even in the off-season we almost go turned away because we hadn't made a reservation. Buuuuuuuut, the staff and owner were sympathetic (we had just arrived and probably looked in rare form) so they sat us and we loved every bite of everything we got. Let the server guide you, once they know what you like they will put together an unforgettable meal for you. I wish we had been there when not raining and during the day so we could see the ocean and the open doors/windows of the patio and beyond. I dream of Beira still to this day... months later... as there are very few places like this in the states, which is just a damn shame tbh. If you are on the island this is 1 of 2 MUST visit places in my opinion. However, it is the ONE must when you figure in price-value proposition into ranking. Keep doing what you are doing, Beira Mar - you've set a ridiculously high bar for the Azores!

We opted for the grouper and another local fish which is escaping me at the moment...but both were phenomenal, cooked to perfection, and well seasoned.
