We stopped in for a couple drinks and some snacks. The staff was great! We had the fried squid. Nicely breaded and tender. We also had the cheese plate. 3 different cheeses (menu said 4). This was a beautiful and cozy restaurant with good food and efficient service. Your experience of this place may differ depending on what time you go. We noticed that people from the island tend to do dinner on the later side around 8:30/9 pm but if you go earlier than that the service is quick and attentive. We order the fried squid, regional Alcatra dish and sangria. Everything tasted great! The fried squid was crispy and nicely seasoned but on the salty side once you get to the bottom. The Alcatra was comparable to other restaurants - a tender and flavorful slow-cooked beef roast. This dish is specific to the island and everyone has a strong opinion on where to get the best. Tasca das Tias is probably not the best by any stretch of the imagination but it's really good if you are visiting and know little about the dish. Overall, this is a really aesthetic space with great food and service. It's nice to try out but keep in mind it is pricier than the other restaurants on the same street. read more

Meh. 2.5 rounded up to 3. Service is what really did this place in. When we arrived, as we were being shown our table, I was run in to by 3 wait staff. It was just so confusing, as I tried to avoid each person but they just SLAMMED in to me. To the point my husband asked if I had some sort of homing beacon on me. So anyway, we're seated and after our waiter came over we ordered and the food (croquettes and steak) came out RIGHT AWAY. So fast we didn't even have time to try our wine before it arrived. Quick food is normally not a bad thing, but when you're doing finer dining, you expect to be allowed more breathing room to enjoy things than if you went to Olive Garden. But the croquettes came out before our wine and bread (to the point that we were never offered bread). They were just okay. I was super excited to try them - because of a food allergy I often can't eat croquettes because of the risk of cross contamination. So I was just pumped. And they were good. But like, not great - I wouldn't order them again. Between the appetizer and main, we expected to have a few minutes to digest, so we requested the wine menu to find a wine to go with dinner. Our waiter brought over the menu and never returned. Before we could order the new bottle of wine, our steaks arrived (this couldn't have been more than 3 minutes after our croquettes were cleared). Very quick - too quick. With that said, the steaks were tasty and were both cooked beautifully - we weren't asked how we wanted them cooked so if you prefer medium or more cook, you'll want to specify. We still wanted wine, so after we were about halfway through our meals, we called over a different waiter and ordered a bottle of wine - after that he was our waiter the rest of the evening and our experience significantly improved (hence a 3 star review now). No longer were we rushed, there was now time to think and talk and enjoy the atmosphere. We ordered the almond pie for dessert, which was enjoyable and our espresso came quickly. Truly a wonderful dining experience that has many of Teceria's favorite dishes. Wonderful aromas' as well as well prepared dishes provide for a joyful evening. Arrived on the island on 5/20/24, which was a festival day(Azores' Day/Spiritus Santos) with very few available options. Our hotel found them open and reserved a table for 4. Never judge a book by its cover... Or in this case, its menu. When browsing for restaurants, this one kept popping up but the menu looked very, shall we say, tourist friendly. So I thought "pass". When I asked our local Airbnb hostess though for a good restaurant recommdation, this was the first name out of her mouth. "Get the tapas!" And that's what we did, and it was delicious! Probably one of our best meals of the whole trip. We had the fish soup, the tomato salad, and the "Tias" style shrimp. They were all phenomenal! When we walked by again in the evening (because I'd forgotten my hoodie there earlier), there was definitely more of a tourist crowd compared to earlier but don't hold it against them. read more

It has been a while since I traveled alone. Surprisingly, I stumbled upon this island. It was not planned at all, but I am glad it happened. I only had few hours to explore the city part of this island. I walked around and stumbled upon this restaurant. The atmosphere was very nice. Everything felt warm and cozy. Great for dates. I ordered one appetizer and one entree. I forgot the name of the appetizer, but it was super delicious. It was some type of claims but olive oil and seasonings. Definitely you should give it a try. You won't regret it. The steak tuna was perfectly cooked. It was not dried at all. I was skeptical at first because how huge it was, but I was proven wrong. Very tender. However, if you like spicy like me, you need to ask for hot sauce. They don't have hot sauce, but they will give you Peri sauce which was not bad. It was not that spicy though. The reason why I gave four stars because some of the staff was a bit rude to me. I didn't feel very welcome at all. Other than that, the food was good. You should definitely give it a try. read more

The fried fish here was almost one of my favorite foods on this whole trip. The restaurant was clean, the waitstaff were very friendly and helpful and happy to serve. The limpets were good. Te tour guide recommended 3 restaurants I the town center for beef dishes and this restaurant was one of the three. We Yelped and decided on this one-dart choice!! Tasca das Tias is an upscale Portuguese seafood bar and restaurant in the tourist zone of Angra do Heroísmo. It was opened in 2014 by a local businessman, who took great pains to assist me when I discovered I'd gotten a parking ticket on our rental car. A nice touch! Our group of five ordered lappas, cherne, tuna and filet mignon. The lappas were devoured by my wife (they weren't to my taste but she loved them), but the real stars of the meal were the cherne and tuna. Cherne, a local delicacy found in deep waters in certain places in the world including Azores, is a large, firm fleshed fish similar to giant sea bass. I'd describe its texture as somewhat like halibut, and it must be served very soon after it's caught. Tasca served a large portion over potatoes, perfectly grilled and very tasty. The tuna was served medium and couldn't have been better. Filet was wrapped with bacon and arrived medium rare. It was good, although a bit chewy for my taste. The local grass-fed beef is of high quality but generally not dry-aged, so the texture can be a bit challenging for the US palate (including mine). We also tried cherne at another local restaurant near Central Pastelaria, but found it to be a disappointment there as it wasn't as fresh. So thumbs up for Tasca for their service, food and a date-worthy bar and restaurant atmosphere! read more

I was in the Azores on business and wanted to go out into the Angra afterwards for dinner. Our local friends recommended this place and said we could not go wrong with any selection. Located in downtown Angra, Tasca das Tias is nestled on a quiet side street, giving it a stereotypical European feel - quite and relaxing...perfect for conversation and an enjoyable evening. While the wine menu is VERY extravagant and wide-ranging, I felt like a beer and ordered a Portuguese Super Bock - very tasty for any occasion. I had been told that the steaks are fabulous on Terceira as the cattle is all locally grass-fed. However, as I was in the Azores, I wanted to try something that was fresh-caught that day. They have several amazing selections - cod, tuna, and cherne. As I had never tried grilled cherne before, I opted for that. It was extremely well prepared, I just did not find it that appealing personally. A little too salty for my taste, I did eat it all and did not regret ordering it. However, I would try the cod or tuna when I go back. It wasn't....bad; it just wasn't my cup-of-tea. I wanted to try something different and am glad I tried it once. Fantastic service and a warm atmosphere make Tasca das Tias a great place to enjoy some quiet time with family and friends! read more

Got to have lunch here on Tuesday. Really cute place, nice atmosphere. They did not have the lapas available or the prime rib steak I was so looking forward to. So we ended up with a order of fried potato skins which was nothing more than skin peeled from the potatoes they use for the boiled potatoes. So it's the skin that all other places would throw away but Tasca was smart enough to fool its customers to try their potatoes skins for €3.5. Albacore tuna steaks was a generous portion and wife enjoyed it. I ended up with the grill Cherne aka wreck fish. It was a steak cut and it was a very thin cut. I would say it was barely 4oz and I'm being generous. Because of the shape the there was the cavity of where the fish's stomach was half the size of the steak so half of the fish is air. I found it to be too dry. I won't comment on the chicken nuggets and fries my daughter had. White wine was only €2 by the glass so on the island, you'll find cheap wine and salty food. read more

Really great casual dining spot in the heart of Angra. There are some large items on the menu like steak to include filet mignon and a variety of fish dishes, we opted for the tapas instead. The fried shrimp was lightly battered and served with a great tasting garlic-mayo sauce, the potato skins, which were basically like thinly cut fries were covered in sea salt and did not disappoint. Tasca das Tias serves both white and red Sangria as well as a host of other wine options, like most wine in the Azores, our red Sangria was phenomenal. The singer was lively, he had a beautiful voice and engaged the crowd excellently. The food stood out as exceptional as well. Steak was amazing- buttery soft, tender and very well seasoned. Highly recommend. Sangria was good as well. Excellent choice for Angra. This place and Cachalotte (may be misspelled) down the steet were my two favorites.
