First taste of the Azores. Busy spot. Better service if you come when they first open. Not a huge space and gets loud as it starts to fill up. Service not able to be attentive when that happens. There is outdoor seating in back, but also for smoking. We ordered the Shrimp pasta & fried fish dishes which we enjoyed. Get the almond pie! Like pecan pie. Great way to end meal; no meal is ever complete without Portugal white wine!! You can expect to wait for table after 7 or 7:30 pm.

We stopped in for a couple drinks and some snacks. The staff was great! We had the fried squid. Nicely breaded and tender. We also had the cheese plate. 3 different cheeses (menu said 4). It also came with olives and some fried bread. Cheese and olives were good. Didn't care for the bread. It was not at all crowded on a late Sunday afternoon. I would venture back to try more.

The restaurant's atmosphere is impeccable as well as the decorations. They have a young staff that are relentless at providing great service. The food is absolutely magnificent. I had the filet mignon which was perfectly cooked. We liked it so much we went twice more!!

This was a beautiful and cozy restaurant with good food and efficient service. Your experience of this place may differ depending on what time you go. We noticed that people from the island tend to do dinner on the later side around 8:30/9 pm but if you go earlier than that the service is quick and attentive. We order the fried squid, regional Alcatra dish and sangria. Everything tasted great! The fried squid was crispy and nicely seasoned but on the salty side once you get to the bottom. The Alcatra was comparable to other restaurants - a tender and flavorful slow-cooked beef roast. This dish is specific to the island and everyone has a strong opinion on where to get the best. Tasca das Tias is probably not the best by any stretch of the imagination but it's really good if you are visiting and know little about the dish. Overall, this is a really aesthetic space with great food and service. It's nice to try out but keep in mind it is pricier than the other restaurants on the same street.

Meh. 2.5 rounded up to 3. Service is what really did this place in. When we arrived, as we were being shown our table, I was run in to by 3 wait staff. It was just so confusing, as I tried to avoid each person but they just SLAMMED in to me. To the point my husband asked if I had some sort of homing beacon on me. So anyway, we're seated and after our waiter came over we ordered and the food (croquettes and steak) came out RIGHT AWAY. So fast we didn't even have time to try our wine before it arrived. Quick food is normally not a bad thing, but when you're doing finer dining, you expect to be allowed more breathing room to enjoy things than if you went to Olive Garden. But the croquettes came out before our wine and bread (to the point that we were never offered bread). They were just okay. I was super excited to try them - because of a food allergy I often can't eat croquettes because of the risk of cross contamination. So I was just pumped. And they were good. But like, not great - I wouldn't order them again. Between the appetizer and main, we expected to have a few minutes to digest, so we requested the wine menu to find a wine to go with dinner. Our waiter brought over the menu and never returned. Before we could order the new bottle of wine, our steaks arrived (this couldn't have been more than 3 minutes after our croquettes were cleared). Very quick - too quick. With that said, the steaks were tasty and were both cooked beautifully - we weren't asked how we wanted them cooked so if you prefer medium or more cook, you'll want to specify. We still wanted wine, so after we were about halfway through our meals, we called over a different waiter and ordered a bottle of wine - after that he was our waiter the rest of the evening and our experience significantly improved (hence a 3 star review now). No longer were we rushed, there was now time to think and talk and enjoy the atmosphere. We ordered the almond pie for dessert, which was enjoyable and our espresso came quickly. Overall, I wouldn't return, but it was a good steak.

We went at 3pm on a Saturday and we're please their kitchen was open. Prices are reasonable for the ambiance and area of town. The vegetable soup was tasty. The steak was tender and well seasoned. They do not serve salads. Service was good.

Excellent food served in nice ambiente from nice personal. The grilled tuna steak was marvelous. Medium/rare cooking was to the point. The Dona Amélia cake was delicious.

    Fish soup. Delicious!

Never judge a book by its cover... Or in this case, its menu. When browsing for restaurants, this one kept popping up but the menu looked very, shall we say, tourist friendly. So I thought "pass". When I asked our local Airbnb hostess though for a good restaurant recommdation, this was the first name out of her mouth. "Get the tapas!" And that's what we did, and it was delicious! Probably one of our best meals of the whole trip. We had the fish soup, the tomato salad, and the "Tias" style shrimp. They were all phenomenal! When we walked by again in the evening (because I'd forgotten my hoodie there earlier), there was definitely more of a tourist crowd compared to earlier but don't hold it against them.

Incredible menu. Great service. Delicious food. The tuna steak was perfect. Also had the soup of the day (vegetable), which was extraordinary. Atmosphere was quiet, quaint, lovely. Definitely recommend.

It's probably the best steak I've ever had. Frank, the spirited owner who REALLY has fun joking around with everyone, delivers you a cut of meat so tall and trim you'll think you're looking at a runway model. But unlike Gigi Hadid, this steak is served to you uncooked on a 500°F brick of volcanic stone. This steak is grilled for you, and mostly BY you, on the superhot slab right there at your table! Frank gets the cooking started for you, but you basically slice each bite onto the smoldering brick and hold it on there for a bit to cook it. It is such perfect beef that you can't mess it up. I also got the simple appetizer spread with two kinds of fresh bread, some cheese, olives, and cute little sausage bites. All of those were exceptionally good, except that the olives are the same kind you get at every restaurant on this island. Seriously, though, what an awesome dinner experience this was. Unless tender red meat is not your scene, you need to try this at least once if you're visiting the island.

But I was totally satisfied with my choice! From the outside I wasn't expecting such a large and nicely decorated restaurant. There were almost no other customers, and my server seemed delighted to have someone to make a good impression on. They had a few different types of steak; I ordered the €12 one which came covered with bacon & shrimp (normally there would also be mushrooms but I asked them to hold the mushrooms). There were also fresh-fried potato chips, a side salad, and some rice, plus I'd asked for bread and cheese as a starter, and I was also brought some olives. What I'm saying is that I got A LOT of food! And it was all really good! The steak was boneless and lean and really, really juicy. All that stuff on top of it created a ton of flavor that made every bite of that steak absolutely delicious. And those potato chips I mentioned, that sounds corny but if you get a dish that comes with those, start on them right away while they're still fresh from the fryer. All that food on my plate plus a 1.5-liter bottle of water ran me €16.50. It was very reasonable and I expect to return here before I leave Terceira Island.

We went on Thursday morning around 11am, and was disappointed that it won't open until noon. My empty stomach did not want to wait so we left. But I came back two days later for lunch and very glad that I did. We ordered grilled grouper and fried "abrotea", both were so fresh! Especially the latter was impressive; even though it was fried but very light and tender! The waiter suggested this local fish, and we were happy that we took his advice. The interior of this place is nicely decorated that we browsed around while waiting for our dishes. The service was excellent. The waiter speaks fluent English. It is next to the fresh market, so we got to visit it too!

It should be up there with the best of them. You should be travelling to Terceira just to eat here. I'm about to go re-rate, and lower the rating on every other restaurant I ate at on this trip because nothing was comparable. Had I eaten here on my first day, everything else would pale by comparison, and probably ruin the vacation. So I guess by that measure, it's probably a good thing that I ate here on the second to last day of the trip! Okay, so let me start by telling you where we failed, so you can do better. Call and make a reservation the morning of the day BEFORE you plan to eat here (so approx 36 hrs ahead). The reason being, there is no menu here! You just tell them what you want, and they'll tell you what's possible given the farm/supply situation. If you call too late (like we did), you'll be limited to the a la carte options (which were still amazing), but the other way is much more intimate. Roberto or his wife will have a discussion with you on the phone to plan your party's meal. Some of the exotic options include goat, duck, rabbit, a whole roasted pig, but again... Depends on what's available. If you screw up and are too late, upon arrival, Roberto will invite you into the kitchen and show you what's fresh and available right now. The options seem to usually include grilled fish, pork ribs or steak. Your appetizers are cheese or lapas. Though we missed out on the curated menu option, the a la carte experience was still out of this world. The fish was the best we had on the whole trip by far. The cheese was also the best as well. Their desserts were decadent. And all the while Roberto or his wife would check in on us, stop to chit chat, and it just made the whole evening that much more personal. As with other places we found, tables do not turn over here. Your meal will take at least a couple hrs, and no one is in any rush. The personal touch here is phenomenal. It's an experience you won't soon forget, and for sure, the next time I come back here I'm going to plan well ahead so we get the full experience. I sincerely hope they can keep it going this way! Bravo!

Even though it was a tiny place, they had a room that was able to seat all of us on a long bench like table. We came here based on other friends' recommendations of their house burger. Many of us got the house burgers and they were delicious. Really juicy meat and great toppings and all for something like 4 euros. Other people got the house soup and it was a traditional Terceira soup they were serving that day. Very flavorful and really hit the soul. I got the Salmon salad and though it sounds boring compared to the other things my friends got, I absolutely loved it. The smoked salmon was really great and they give you so much! The salad was really filling and satisfying. I have to say the best part of the meal was the hot cocoa. This was not a cocoa I have ever tasted. my friend got it first and after trying hers, I knew I had to get my own. The cocoa was rich in flavor and so so thick. It was almost like melted chocolate but not that heavy. They steamed the milk and it became creamy and rich and I feel like that only happens with fresh milk. The whipped cream on top just made it go over the top with flavor and deliciousness. I did not find it toothachingly sweet but just the right amount of sweetness that makes you keep wanting to come back for another snip. I seriously would come here just for their hot cocoa. It was really memorable and something I know I will crave but not be able to find in America. Overall, I highly recommend coming here for lunch and grabbing a bite to eat. Their food choices are all so delicious and really cheap! Decor was pretty hippy and bohemian like the other review said. A lot of interesting things to look at. Great little cafe!

European restaurants in my experience generally don't bring a check unless you ask, don't seat you unless you have a reservation (seat yourself), and if you want something you just simply ask them.
