I used to attend this church regularly and serve on several ministry groups. I don't ever expect to…read morefully align with any church home 100%, but when a politician walked onto the "stage" ( bc that's what it was at that point) and campaigned, I left. Separate church and State. It's a mistake to mix the two. Also, the quality of the church went downhill through the torrent of pastors and settled on one who doesn't fit the area or my needs. By my standards, he's a stale, pale, male, and his preaching was exclusionary. His answer would be (I've heard it) to "don't ask him, ask God; read your Bible." I have. I'm glad not to have the leadership of souls in my hands, it's true. However, when I arrived at this church, I was so impressed with the teaching and the ability to remain silent where the Bible remains silent on topics. I specifically remember Lon saying, "Where the Bible is silent, we can have opinions, but we must remain silent as leaders and counsel prayer." It's clear that Lon has opinions. He's made them clear and public now, but not when I attended MBC. When that ended, so did my attendance at this church.

Sunday messages always give me something to ponder upon. We have many opportunities to practice these teachings locally and internationally. Families today continue to be provided for through the food pantry & anyone can come help-out. So one Sunday my wife and I woke up and decided that we would give this church a shot. YC (Yelp Community) we both were 100% satisfied with the church and the pastor (Rev. Dr. N. A. Tate). We were in such awe on the sermon he delivered. I mean he delivered the word in a way that it was easy for any person to understand. I mean you can tell that he had a lot of experience because he knew how to change and control the mood of the room with just speech. Something which I feel is very hard for a pastor to do. His sermon was so well prepared and delivered that I was hooked on his every word until the end of service. That is hard for pastor to accomplish especially with the younger generation. But Rev. Tate is very experience and is very good at executing his sermons. Since that first sermon my wife and I have been attending this church for over a year now. We get a little disappointed when he doesn't preach but the other pastors filling in for him do a good job as well but for me not as good but that's just my opinion. So if you don't have any plans Sunday and you are in the area then give Heritage a visit I know you'd enjoy it especially if pastor Tate is preaching.

On the down side, the vibe is just not good here. After services, I went to coffee hour, and I'm a pretty gregarious person. That said, not one single person said hello, and I never did find anyone with whom to talk. Also, an important disclaimer: My visit was not recent, and the church has been in transition. The Rosary is prayed each morning from 7:30 to 8 AM by the community before the 8 AM Mass. Unlike other Catholic churches which are moving away from having statuaries and altars to St. Joseph, Mother Mary, and the saints, Saint Joseph Parish encourages reflection and prayer to the all whom our Church possible. The Franciscan priests give wonderful homilies, making the Gospel accessible to all. It may not be a modern church or an aesthetic church (by modern standards), but parishioners are encouraged to pause, reflect, pray and discuss. In the memory of St. Francis of Assisi who reminded us that it is in giving that we receive, Saint Joseph Parish gives so much to those who attend, and encourages parishioners to share and give in return.
