It's very crowded and I would definitely recommend that you should purchase your tickets before arriving on their website. The check in area gets really crowded so probably aim to get there a little bit early before your designated time that you can maximize the amount of time that you spend on the ice. The ice rink itself is somewhat level, but when I was there, part of it had already melted. It was getting wet. Usually they give you 90 minutes of skate time and then at the end they have a Zamboni come and re-ice the rink. Cute date activity. read more

The setting of an ice rink in the town center is fantastic, especially under the glass pavilion. We reserved tickets for our daughter for the first session of the day- the line was already getting long but check-in went fairly quickly. Our daughter has her own skates so we didn't need to deal with rentals. Once she was on the ice she had a great time for the first half. But after 45 minutes it became clear that they had sold way too many tickets, as the small ice rink became almost impossibly crowded. I really have to question how they determine their rink capacity. Have you been skating at THE RINK at Rockefeller Center? It's crowded. Like ... really crowded. This is often similar. You're not going because you want a freeing ice-skating experience. You're going because it's convenient in the heart of RTC and your kiddos think it's cool and their smiles warm your heart. If you manage your expectations, you'll emerge quite content. Is it often crowded? Yeah. Do you sometimes luck out? Sure! Every so often do you run into a 47 year old dude who really knows how to skate and wants you to know it? Absolutely. Does that really take away from your 7 year old's enjoyment? Absolutely not. With online ticket purchasing, checking in and getting skates is a breeze. There's a decent chance you will curse the skates you rent as the most uncomfortable things you have placed around your ankles since that dream in which your ankle chains started chafing after walking across the moon of Vega (it was the sand, y'know) since you were sentenced there for stealing from the imperial magistrate. But when are rental skates comfortable? (Ok: truth be told - sometimes they are! But just not here.) Downsides notwithstanding, if you live in the area or you happen to be heading through town and have a penchant for getting your skate on - I don't know why you wouldn't partake of an opportunity here. If you must go there for the ambiance, I highly recommend you bring your own skates since the poorly maintained rental skates will not only set you back an additional $7, but you will likely receive a pair with frayed and extremely long or short laces and bent/broken lace hooks. The lines can get pretty long so I recommend reserving online so you can go straight to the front, but you do have to pay an extra "convenience fee" for online reservations. My friend and I stopped by quickly. We were there at 7 pm on a Wednesday. I think we lucked out bc it wasn't too crowded. The staff working were kind enough. They all seemed like they would rather be doing anything else but they got us our skates and they were efficient. When we got out on the rink the railings were STICKY it was not pleasant. But we had a good time. When we went to return our skates, the staff sprayed them with what I assume was disinfectant but barely sprayed them at all. Seemed like he was doing it just to do it. I've been taking my teenager to RTC Ice Rink every couple of years and decided it was time to bring along my almost 4 year old as well this year. My total was $50 for 2 adults and 1 child with our stake rental and an additional $10 for a small penguin rental. We arrived on Saturday at 6 pm and the line was out the door. We stood in line for about 30 minutes until it was our turn to check-out, swap shoes/skates. Staff: plenty of staff (young adults) handling both registers, 1 managing the penguin sign-up, 4 assisting with skate/shoe swaps, 2-3 on the ice rink. Penguin skate aid rental: $10/hour with id. Sign-up sheet separate from payment register. A staff member will call when a penguin becomes available. **(Please provide more penguins during high peak hours or shorten the rental usage time to 30 minutes). The Zamboni resurfaced the rink every hour. I mean seriously a free skate on a nice chilly day. Makes you happy you live where you have the seasonal changes like a robust winter. Though we have yet to see our snow this season, we surely enjoyed the winter sport of ice skating. We had no issues with 6 teens paying and changing shoes in the small area. AWFUL, extremely dull and worn out skates! We got on the ice right when our session started and the ice was already gross and looked like it already needed to be cleared and refreshed. After ten minuted of skating i asked one of the employees when theyd zambonie next and he said not til the next session which we werent able to skate for any portion of it (i asked if i could get 5 minutes in on fresh ice and they said no/didn't care that their ice had been sub par the entire time). Combined w the dull skates it wasn't that fun/ we couldn't grip well( most people couldn't actually) People were falling all over the place because of it, and this rink is very small so it felt like you couldn't do anything but go straight. They sell tickets during inclement weather conditions knowing the ice conditions are unsafe and there is ZERO refund policy! Paid $100 for skates and it started raining while we were getting ready. The ice conditions deteriorated to the point where they were no longer safe and they will not allow us back another time or refund the money even though we didn't go out to skate. Avoid if possible and go to the indoor Reston Ice Arena down the street. *Edit* (update) A corporate manager was contacted after I overheard the girl behind the counter making fun of my family when she thought we had gone outside. It is also worth noting that the manager kept herself hidden in her back office while customers complained about not being able to receive a refund. The corporate manager personally hand delivered free skate passes to my wife who works in the town center today to compensate for our experience. I am leaving the poor rating up because the issues are with their corporate policy, customer service and professionalism. I am more than willing to update the rating if steps are taken to remedy those issues. read more

Price: $30 for two adults to skate The price provides all day admission to the rink with your wrist band. If you were to want to take a break and get something to eat you could return your skates, pick up your shoes, and then return later with your wristband still on and pay $6 for skate rental again. Bring your own lock if you want a locker! I purposely go when it's not too crowded, I go with the mindset of I may turn around because it's too crowded so I'm never disappointed. The staff was very helpful. I'd say bravo to management for the day I went. The cashier promptly blurted out our total after confirming two adults needed skates and wrist bands. ($30 ish) However before we paid we asked to confirm they had size 15 skates, THEY DO! The cashier was informative and let us know they run large but they do carry 13, 14, & 15 as of this season. Whereas last season they went up to 13! Then we paid and were on our way. I say bravo to management because when we moved down the counter to exchange shoes for skates the next employee had a quizzical look at our request for size 15 and said "Uhh, I don't know if we have that size...". Clearly management knew which employee could answer questions and which should handle exchanging shoes for skates. The staff on the ice was a younger kid, skating in circles listening to music. I didn't see him interact with anyone, but I also didn't see anyone wildly disobeying any rules either. The rink conditions were fine. It is a covered pavilion with the sides exposed on this particular day. It looked like the Zamboni should be used within the next couple of hours (the ice shaving build up was obvious) but I'm not sure they do that more than once a day here. Despite recent unfavorable reviews, decided to take the family for an afternoon skate. It was a Friday afternoon, holiday season, so I expected it to be reasonably crowded. But the crowd was manageable, the wait time was reasonable, and the staff was mostly helpful. The ice was in pretty good shape and the damaged fence had been repaired. They Zambonied the rink twice during our 3 hours and kept the ice smooth. We had a good time! read more

RTC is such a great backdrop for ice skating, especially on a sunny winter day, but misinformation is causing a 3 Star rating. Be aware that if you want to take a break to eat in the town center or even rest your feet back in your shoes that it will cost you a second skate rental to get the skates back. This was NOT made clear to me when I specifically asked upon arrival. Clearly a breakdown in communication between the check-in and skate rental staff. Besides, for the price, you should at least be given a two hour window. Also, the skate assistance equipment(that kids hold onto when learning) is an additional $10 or something..! So I'm speaking for the early December 2022 weeknight timeframe. The rink hasn't been crowded on week nights-- pretty empty. Customer service is excellent! I called the number about two different questions and each time there was a prompt, courteous response that was helpful! Buying tickets online is easy and when I showed up, the staff was really friendly. The skates were what you would expect for rental skates, I think. I've never owned skates so I don't know how to compare them. The tree and pavilion were beautiful and they play some light music. Each session is 90 minutes, which is a good amount of time. The ice was a bit choppy but not terrible. I wouldn't want the Zamboni cutting into my session anyway. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised at the customer service and lack of chaos. It's also nice to be able to easily walk to dinner with friends afterwards! If you wanna skate for a bit, go for it! read more

Rude employees and poor ice conditions at a high cost. We will never be going back again, and here is why: We paid $16 per person (even for a small 3 year old child) once we got on the ice, I noticed the conditions were VERY poor, lots of snow and potholes -- very poor upkeep. I went inside and told a girl at the front desk named Faiza that the ice required a Zamboni to go over it as the conditions were quite bad, she showed no care for my concerns and simply pointed at a guy and said "Go tell him". I walked up to the man and told him that the ice conditions were poor and he said OK and that he would be out to clean it, instead he continued to text on his phone for the next hour. An hour later, after skating on completely terrible ice, he finally came out and cleaned it. By this point, it was very busy, as it was a Friday night, about 2 hours later, the ice was in bad condition again and nobody came out to clean it. The potholes were so deep that I saw several children (who know how to skate) take nose dives when skating over them, and I myself fell as well. I should mention that I am not a novice, I am Canadian and know good skating conditions from bad ones. If you're going to pay for a service, the employees should he polite, the experience should be FUN and SAFE and the staff should CARE about your experience and safety -- Unfortunately the employees were rude, careless and skating on poor unkept ice is NOT fun. Save yourself the money and the headache and go somewhere else. read more

This is usually the first choice for our ice skating location, however the conditions of the ice and the lack of respect of the staff will have me frequenting other ice skating locations. While sitting at the bench today a staff member informs me I need to move to another bench because they have decided a party wants to set up in the exact spot I have been sitting at for the past hour. As a business owner you should have a certain spot where you have reserved the party location and not have the party hostess dictate other paying patrons move due to the fact you want that particular area. I am insulted that my money and/or patronage does not mean a thing to you. I understand the weather is warmer for this season and you should evaluate the condition of the ice and make those necessary adjustments so the patrons are still able to skate safely. The puddles of water are considerably deep for decent skating under those conditions and even when brought to your attention your focus is this party that clearly has not rented out the entire facility to warrant all of your attention to be focused on them. The missing pane of glass covered by plastic wrap should also be of concern for the simple fact you cater to many age groups and that can not be safe or in compliance of safety code. In fact when I first arrived there wasn't even a cone in front of it. This will be the last time we patronize this skate facility which is a shame because in the past we have had great experiences here. I do not recommend this facility to anyone and would give them zero stars if I could. read more

Perhaps the fact that we went on a Sunday is a factor, but the rink was too crowded at times which made it difficult to skate. Staff was very friendly. I was completely grossed out at the end of our nice skating session to see that NO skate rentals being returned were disinfected. The blades were wiped off but that was it. Fantastic ice skating rink! Staff is very nice and attentive, they always ask if you need help when you fall, and offer it very swiftly. The crowd is very nice, and the overall ambiance is fantastic. Highly recommend you check this place out! The recent negative view by another is very innacurate! The ice is cleaned every hour and is perfectly fine as long as you literally can't walk on ground... Have had a ton of fun while going, and it just keeps getting better. Great organization for a very large holiday parade too, they managed very well. read more

My 3 year old started crying as we stepped into the ice so I went back in to say it wasn't going to work and they refused to give my money back from me and her! With small kids you never know how they are going to act or react and the fact that they wouldn't refund me for her is unbelievable! The manager was rude and inconsiderate to the situation! I love the rink, but hate the way we were treated today. At check-in at 11:00 a.m., I rented one of the 2 large snowmen the facility has that are used by beginner skaters for balance. I rented it for my handicapped adult child who has autism. The rental charge was $10 for the day. We took the snowman onto the ice. Unfortunately, my daughter was not able to skate with it. I took it back to the front counter within approximately 5 minutes of renting it. I requested a refund. A staff member at the front desk spoke to the manager. I was told that they would not give a refund, because we had taken the device onto the ice. I told them that my child was handicapped and couldn't use the devise. It made no difference. A short time later I noticed that both of the snowmen, including the one I had just returned, had been rented. So very insensitive of this facility. I felt like even if their policy was otherwise, they could have made an exception in this case. read more

The skating rink itself was fine. However, the customer service by the store manager, Nanny, was unacceptable. Nanny condones people who cut lines by servicing them at his convenience, before he services people who wait in line. I observed him speak disrespectfully to a customer about how she was not letting him do his job because she pulled him aside to provide feedback about his customer service. I was outraged, and thought the responsible store supervisor should step in. Nanny claimed he was in charge, which is even more shocking, given that a store is managed by someone who has no ability to provide good customer service. Store owner, I strongly urge you to reconsider who you put in charge of your store - Nanny caused a big scene, and I can only imagine how he treats his coworkers if how he treats your customers is any indication. read more

Good setting and a large rink for a mall location. We went on a Saturday night and it was busy but not ridiculous. The rental skates were a bit beat down and skate/rental price was pretty steep. No food options on site, but plenty within a short walk. They do not offer buckets or the small penguins as props for kids learning to skate. As a result, there are a lot of wall crawlers. read more

Went to Reston Town Center Ice Rink to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday with two friends. Loved everything about the experience. The staff is super friendly, the prices are fair, you don't have to work around limited session times.... skate as long as you wish. It was NOT overly crowded and this was on a gov't holiday (Presidents Day). We had a family tradition of going the day after Christmas with my step-mom teaching the grandchildren to skate. Precious tradition and best picture ever captured as she was whispering encouraging words into my then 3 year old sons' ear. Grandma Non died the following year and that picture is the way I like to remember her. Those memories are why my daughter wanted to drive from Annapolis, MD to Reston, VA to celebrate her 16th birthday with close friends.! Grabbed yummy celebration cupcakes for the road from the confection celebration store on the way to the Free parking garage too. Great experience! Kudos to Catherine, at the ice rink, too for being so helpful when I called today looking for an important lost item.... hopefully it will be located. read more
