Our child had a great experience at SkateQuest's Summer Ice Skating Camp. The rink is clean and well maintained, and the camp is well organized, with a daily schedule of ice lessons, games, crafts/activities and free skate opportunities. We also liked that this camp had an aftercare option until 5 p.m. and the availability of a daily hot lunch for purchase. The week ended with a fun ice show where all the kids got to perform together, and they even had a snow cone truck come for the kids. She had a great time and built confidence on the ice. My son uses a power wheelchair and has used several ice rinks before, but he was told he can't use the Skate Quest rink.

There is zero security at this place, run by very young staff that can't keep control. Locker rooms are some of the smallest, oldest and frankly worst in the area. Can get crowded during public skates, Reston Raiders hockey club is a "big boy" fraternity that's not worth bothering with. All in all there are tons better rinks to go to for any need be it hockey, figure skating, or fun. Try Trashburn or Medstar in Arlington. read more

Nice facility, built with two different ranks, one Olympic rank and one NHL size rink, this place opened up initially as an independent skating rink in 2019, which unfortunately was right before the pandemic. Now, they work in tandem with the local skating clubs and have plenty of freestyle skating time at a relative bargain of $8.75 for 30min. Parking is a one-way road for a little bit and the bigger parking lot near there. One of the downsides is going downstairs in order to enter the Olympic rink, it's not ground level. I live 40 minutes away but had plans to meet up with my friends in reston. I called the day before to ensure the hours online for public skate were 3:10-5:10 this Sunday and I was assured that timing was accurate. The next day I got to the rink and got my skates sharpened before getting my pass. When i got to the front desk they said they close at 3:00? I asked how this happened as I called yesterday and they were not able to provide any insight. So then we drove the 40 minutes home. read more

Skatequest Reston appears to hate its customers especially children. We took our young son (3 years old) for his first skate on the new pair of skates that we bought from the pro shop (pro shop. Staff is great by the way). We asked about skate aids and they said they don't have them and they're not allowed. After going on the ice we saw several aids being used. After complaining, we were treated dismissively by the staff and a higher level person as if the request to use an aid for our 3 year old was somehow outrageous. Skatequest Reston is the Bud Light of NOVA rinks.... Their level of "wokeness" all became clear as we observed a Ukrainian flag while walking out the door.. read more

We had a very positive experience with the learn-to-skate summer camp at SkateQuest in '19. Shelley, the director, took the time to meet with me before we registered and answer my 600 questions. My daughter was only 4.5yrs old and in Snowplow Sam 4 at the time, so I was a bit apprehensive and spent a lot of time comparing LTS camps at four local rinks. For a very young rec skater, SkateQuest was where I felt most comfortable sending my daughter. She had a BLAST at camp. She made a lot of progress as a skater, got a bit more independent, and loved everyone there. She kept asking me to pick her up later each day. Everyone was really kind and helpful - you cannot believe how many pairs of skates those camp counselors lace up every day. There were tons of on and off ice activities. It felt very under control, well supervised, and safe. I'm actually a bit sad her skating level means the camp wouldn't be appropriate for her in '21. We've also been here for public skates during COVID and felt really comfortable with their Phase 3 restrictions and procedures. read more

We came yesterday to practice at Skatequest while on vacation. A was doing her own thing. She does not like me to comment on her skating. J and I were practicing together. We are all at about the same level. Working on our jumps and spins. We were taking turns showing each other what we can do and commenting on each other's moves. A common practice during our lessons with our coaches. I was told that I cannot talk to my kids while skating. Needless to say I was shocked and offended. I was accused of being a coach and told that parents cannot coach. I was not informed that I was not allowed to talk to my kids. It is important that I tell them when they are in other peoples' way and how to behave as guests in a new rink. Am I not allowed to be a parent? Am I not allowed to talk to fellow skaters? Am I not allowed to have company on the ice? I was devastated. We were having such a wonderful time. We were so impressed by all the great skaters. But, what a nasty experience to know that other coaches complained about us and said we were taking up their space! Made me want to watch the I Tanya movie a few more times. I paid for our space in the rink. No one told me that I had to purchase a lesson too. How mean are the coaches that they have to pick on visitors and try to shake them down for money or kick them off the ice? Why even be open to the public at all? I am totally disgusted and crushed by the immaturity and infringement on my freedom of speech or even the space to exist. read more

The whole family had a great time. Very clean facilities. Music and environment was appropriate for young children. Skate sharpening Fairfax rink is right around my house but my daughters new skates arrived later than expected via mail. Fairfax also requires 24 hours where you leave the skates to get sharpened. Since she had a party to go to and wanted to take her skates called Skatequest. The person on the phone was very friendly and said as long as I come in during the pro shop hours they will do it on the spot. We dropped them off and they were done in approximately 15 minutes as there were a few other skates ahead of us. read more

I don't think I've ever met a more disrespectful man than the guy that claims he is in charge of Hardcore Hockey. I certainly will not be taking my kids there again for hockey camp. Watching TV videos while unsupervised for several hours a day is not my idea of an effective way to teach hockey. What a rip! Wish there was a way to give negative Stars. This guy deserves it. I grew up in a hockey town and didn't ice skate as much as I should have. It was fun coming here on a recent Friday public skate and seeing all the teens, tweens and kids struttin their stuff on the ice. The DJ plays all the latest music and they even have a disco ball and lights. It reminded me of our old roller skating parties (our rinks were pretty beat up from hockey and didn't offer lights and sound from what I can recall). Will have to do it again! read more

The teachers we've had made very little effort to make classes fun for younger kids, they are not very friendly or motivating. If your kid does not pass the level, they handle it very poorly on the last day, it was a very demoralizing experience for my child. read more

We were here for my son's hockey tournament. This was one of the rinks used for the Congressional Challenge. Great pro show, they do an excellent job sharpening skates. The viewing area on the second level looks down into the rink, but has a beam that obstructs the view...making it a pain to watch game inside. The best place to view a game is still inside the rink itself. Their policy for handing over locker room keys to teams needs a little work. A parent was offered to give his license to the attendant in order to get the keys for the boys to get changed for a game. When it was time to leave, they gave him a hard time about the locker room being a mess. And despite cleaning, they still have him trouble, not telling him exactly what the problem was. read more

I love this place! My son has blossomed as a skater over the past few years after deciding that skating is his 'thing' (despite his autism and my awkward parenting... I have no idea how to be a figure skater mom ‍). We couldn't wait for the rink to open back up after COVID and we now find the facility to be very clean and safe. The low turnover in staff shows their dedication and love for their job! His private coach Raheel works SO WELL with him and knows how to get the most out of him. After his group lesson with Olga, he came off the ice absolutely buzzing with excitement. He said, "I don't know HOW she does it. She just shows me what to do and somehow I do it! She really knows how to teach kids! Did you see my swizzle?" Ugh. I love him. After the lesson another coach (who I thought I recognized, but didn't b/c masks... sooooo that was awkward) came up and gave him a high five and told him, "I was watching you out there buddy, you're really good!" As a mom, watching him puff up with pride after all the challenges he faces... ugh... my whole heart. Thank you Skatequest and Shelley for putting on such a great program. Great facility, have been skating for years here. Could use more public skating sessions that are convenient for kids in school. Always feels good in the arenas, never too cold and the building has a nice flow during tournaments. Ice resurfacer drivers like to slide the machines dulling the blades quicker and it is noticeable when the blades get worn down. Pro shop has always been helpful and well stocked. read more

This review for Hardcore hockey program at Skatequest - it is the worst program to develop young skaters interested in playing hockey. Several of the coaches are Eastern Europe or Russian - they are more interested in playing grab ass with the girls than actually teaching young boys. They have terrible leadership skills but certainly know how to yell at 6 year olds. My son took classes there for a couple of years before he decided he wasn't interested anymore. I've coached little league baseball and I am certain I've never been the catalyst for a boy to quit baseball. But yet we're still competitive - we just won our Little League tournament championship game on Saturday. Hardcore Hockey may build good hockey players but it doesn't build good leaders. read more

The front desk staff are young and not that helpful. Anytime I have had a question they forward me to the directors voice mail. It takes days for this lady to return phone calls. The instructors here are fantastic. My 4 year old son is in his second group lesson and is having a blast. I've done a few private lessons and am grateful I did. My kids took classes in both Ashburn Ice House and Skatequest. Compared to the Ashburn Ice House, this place is more organized. We usually take 10:10 Sat class, they have 20 mins free skating time, which allow the transition between classes smoothly (Ashburn Ice House is very poor to handle the in and out of kids between classes). Also their skating shoes are better maintained than those in Ashburn. This place is relatively clean. Employees at receptions can be easily found. However the quality of teachers are various. Some of them are very nice but some of them are not. I was surprised to see them yelled at kids several times. I never saw this in Ashburn. read more

We previously enjoyed lessons for our young child (4 years old). They had learn to skate time where we could go and practice with our son. After an unannounced policy change, we were no longer able to practice with our son during the learn to skate times. I'm disappointed that this rink is not as family friendly as it used to be. I can understand asking parents to pay if the practice was during public skate, but not when it is dedicated learn to skate time and not when it was previously allowed and there was no announcement regarding the change. read more

This is a review for the Pro Shop, as it is the only service I have utilized at Skatequest Reston. I went this morning to look at new hockey skates. I played in high school, but those skates were stolen and I haven't really skated much since then. I have a wife and kids now, so it has been a few years. Olga and Justin were working in the shop, and they had me try on about eight different pairs of skates to make sure I got a great fit. Not only that, but the Graf skates I purchased were half off. The two of them were very affable and provided great customer service. I'll definitely return to their Pro Shop for future purchases. read more

For years we have complained about the quality of the ice surface here, and sure at times we were all the way down to the subsurface in spots with no ice cover at all. A hockey game is just a little more fun with a pylon marking a now skate area on the ice, almost feels like the ponds and lakes back in Michigan. But the truth is, this is a great rink. Every place I have played hockey has had problems, but what you need to know is that this place cares about its players, and actually tries to make the rink at good as possible. The locker rooms are a decent size, and they are clean. Each one has its own toilets, a luxury lacking at many other rinks. There are also showers and locks on the doors which the key given to each team before the game. There is something to be said about not having to worry about your wallet while you play hockey. The refs are all quality, though I hardly agree with their calls, I know I am the one who is normally wrong and maybe a little aggressive. The teams are mostly friendly; the leagues do a great job removing the people who can not play nice on at least a hockey good level. The managers will make themselves available for complaints, requests and even to set up personal or small group lessons. With a small food stand, and two sheets of ice, I have grown quite fond of the rink over the last 9 years. read more

I like this rink. It feels fairly laid-back to me. My kids are really enjoying their lessons. The staff is friendly, and the instructors are good. Two suggestions for improvement: (1) The lounge/dining area needs twice the number of tables and chairs that it currently has. There is plenty of space available for it, and there always seem to be lots of people who want to sit and eat or read or work who can't because of the paltry seating. (2) They need to resurface the ice more often. My kids take lessons on Saturdays. There is a practice session at 11:30, and the ice is already rough by then. Their lessons run until 1:00, at which time the zamboni finally comes out to groom the ice. It's hard for me to skate on the ice at practice time, and I'm sure it must be even more challenging for beginners to learn on it during their lessons. read more

I have yet to experience the rink itself, BUT I did go into the pro shop, because I was in the market for my first pair of proper ice skates, and honestly the service was amazing. Olga helped me out and worked with me through a couple different skates to ensure that what I would end up purchasing would be what was best for me! Went here a few days ago for public skate, and the ice was freshly zamboni-ed but a complete mess on the NHL rink. There were deep tire tracks, pot holes, and the ice was basically melting away around the boards. This was the worst quality ice rink I have ever been to in the area. My son is turning 2 years old later this month and he's getting on skates at the same place his daddy did almost 17 years ago - Skatequest Reston! I've always loved the twin sheets and now Josh Kern runs the best instructional clinics in the area. To make sure people see this, I also copied this review to google. Two of us were going to use a combo Groupon in a Saturday afternoon for a good hour skating. Without previous experience in this rink, we didn't know that this place only opens a small portion of time to public skating. We redeemed our Groupon at 2:44pm without being told that the rink is closing at 3:00pm. It resulted to only 5 minutes use of our 14 dollar admission tickets. It was unfair for new customers to be knowing all the rules automatically. The staff there at the front desk was very passive. The woman at the front desk was even teasing us for not knowing the schedule. She was implying that we have paid 14 dollar ticket for a lesson of learning the existence of their schedule. I believe anyone who was told that will find that very insulting. Groupon is very understanding. I have received a 7 dollar coupon from Groupon, on the other hand, Skatequest merchant was not responding to our bad experience. This is very disappointing. Although the place is good, staff arrogance can be a tremendous damage to the source of customers. We will not go back. I hope this review tells new comers to be prepared for their attitudes. read more

The pro shop staff - especially Olga, "The Skate Sharpening Goddess" - have always been extremely helpful explaining various aspects of equipment. They take the time to patiently explain the details of the differences of the various pieces of equipment so we understand what would work best for our son. Horrible place, facilities are old, dirty and ran down. Staffs are always too busy to help or to assist you unless you are there to enroll or making payments. Once paid they are not interested in you and you are on your own. Very unethical, supervisor or manager are of the same as the ones without titles. Unsafe for small children as the hockey practices or games are in the same areas without barriers to the other skater both in advance or beginners skaters. Only one or two instructor that are qualified and mostly unorganized. Lesson given are not adequate for the fees paid. There are other better establishment in the Nova areas that are better, cleaner, newer and with professional staffing Beware before paying as nothing is refundable even if promises or agreements not being delivered. read more
