As her spouse and support person, I was seated in the room and there to assist, yet I was not acknowledged at any point during or after his interaction. Being ignored in this setting felt unprofessional and dismissive. A patient's support person plays an important role, especially during medical visits, and basic acknowledgment is a matter of respect and courtesy. This experience left me feeling frustrated and disrespected. I want to note that we have encountered other physicians at your practice who are friendly, respectful, and inclusive in their communication. That makes this particular interaction stand out even more. I also believe this type of behavior can disproportionately affect elderly patients and their support systems, who often rely on another person to help understand and manage their care. I respectfully ask that this matter be addressed so that all patients and their support persons are treated with the respect they deserve.
