The procedure he performed was a capsulotomy at the MPJ and IPJ. While it did correct the hammertoe, the surgery left my second and third toes lying flat without function. Because I have flat feet, this caused new problems--my fourth and fifth toes curled under to help support me, and over time it affected my knee and hip. I was also unable to return to wearing my normal shoes and had to purchase an orthopedic shoe. This has had lasting consequences on my mobility and quality of life. While others may have different experiences, I personally would not recommend surgery with Dr. Tenney based on my outcome. If you are considering treatment, I strongly encourage you to do thorough research and seek multiple opinions before proceeding.

I got an X-ray and a 5 minute visit from the podiatrist, who said it couldn't be vascular, couldn't be neurological, etc., so it must be arthritis. He told me to apply diclofenac and resume normal activities. He never really examined my feet. After another painful episode, I went to Dr. Pritavera, right down the street. He spent 45 minutes with me, examining and discussing everything he noticed about my feet. He pointed out two very obvious issues that I never noticed but should have been obvious to any professional who took the time to look at my feet (My big toe did not touch the ground. My big toe was positioned over my second toe.) He also noticed that there were bumps in my feet and that my calf muscle was atrophying compared to the one on the left. In the end, the problem was arthritis, but not just the arthritis. The arthritis was causing my foot and ankle to compensate for the lack of flexibility. Dr. Pritivera concluded that the problem could be remediated by my wearing shoes in my house (I had been going barefoot.) He showed me what kind of shoe to wear. The Podiatry Inc doc never even ASKED what kind of shoes I wear or if I wear shoes at all. I don't remember the podiatrist's name, but it was a waste of time and Medicare's money.
