My sister who is mentally handicapped, I was so worried on where she would be, this place was such a blessing, she is so happy here, the staff is wonderful, Every time I visit, she says she loves it here. My mom has been at The Retreat in Monticello Georgia since earlier this year. My sister and I could not be happier with the facility and everyone that works there! They are all absolutely amazing - angels on Earth! She is safe and so well taken care of, they keep me updated on everything involving her. There is a reason it has a 5 Star rating! Putting my mom in The Retreat this afternoon. She had a major stroke and has been at Grady Stroke Unit for over 15 days in Atlanta. They were just awesome to her and to us while we were up there and want to thank them so much for the care she received. Everyone was so caring and that is what she certainly needed. Coming here is kind of special to us because momma was born and raised here in Monticello. She is 86 and graduated in I believe the Class of 47 or 48??? I found her deploma and i told her she may run into some of her classmates here.. I told her I would bring her makeup bag in case there may be an old boyfriend up here...she started giggling ...maybe I shouldn't have told her that! Anyway her name at the time was Elizabeth Joyce Cunard. She married after graduation to Norman Melville from Atlanta and raised a daughter(me-Linda Parker) and 2 boys..(Norman Jr. of Atlanta) and (Jerry of Monroe). She is blessed with 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Her parents were Charles Velma Cunard & Lizzie Pearl Layson. Momma & Daddy lived in Decatur until daddy's retirement about 1981 and they then moved to Covington to be closer to family. Momma's siblings were Marjorie,Charles Sr.,Sara, Evelyn, Carolyn and Douglas. All are deceased except for momma, Carolyn and Douglas. I hope momma will enjoy the time and her rehabilitation will be successful.. maybe she will like to be here longer if it is determined she needs 24 hour care. We are very excited to be here..1 step closer to home. read more
