I am not a member of this Retro Fitness but I am a member of Retro Fitness and have visited many of their locations while traveling. This location is newer than and therefore superior to some others (I visited June 2016). The gym had several pieces of equipment that I enjoyed that I haven't seen elsewhere. Very easy parking directly in front of the door. The staff was extremely friendly the days we visited and the locker room and gym were spotless. read more

DO NOT JOIN. My boyfriend and I joined this gym because our apartment complex gave us a deal. We rarely went so when we went to cancel our memberships before our year was up, LUIS (who I'm now realizing is a TOTAL LIAR based on other reviews) told us we could freeze our memberships indefinitely and we wouldn't be charged anything. A few months later we were hit with an annual fee. I called and they said they couldn't do anything, but that we had to come in in person to cancel our membership. The girl at the desk said that when you freeze your membership, it isn't free, annual fees apply, and it unfreezes after some time anyway. FUCK LUIS. read more

The staff is friendly and always willing to help The gym is clean. Even when it's busy you rarely have to wait for a machine and there are plenty of weights to go around. Someone mentioned the movie theatre skipping. I start every workout in there and have only seen that happen once in the 5 years I have been a member. I run around a lot and the benefit of being able to use another Retro comes in handy weather I am down near Philly or visiting my Daughter in Brooklyn. I don't use a personal trainer so I can't comment on that. Even the color scheme is energetic and uplifting. read more

I worked out at Retro Fitness for a year, and then I decided to cancel my membership because I hadn't been going. They said that I could "freeze" my account and there would be no fees or charges, and that it would be the same thing as cancelling but I could rejoin at any point with no additional fees. I went for this option, but then received a $40 charge to my credit card. This was about a year after I had thought I had canceled my membership, and there was no notification from the gym about the charge. I called them to contest the charge and they would not reimburse the fee. From what I have read from other reviews, I am not the first person to have been misled and charged additional fees by the gym without any apparent reason. There are plenty of better gym options in the same area. read more

DO NOT join this gym. I've literally attempted to cancel my membership AT LEAST 6 times or more over the past year. I've had the GYM OWNER tell me to my face more than once that the membership was officially cancelled, yet, here I am still being charged. They have no official "customer service," there's no possible way to be reimbursed for the money I've been charged while NOT using the gym (since it was supposed to be CANCELLED), and I continue to get the run-around from employees, the owner, etc. Absolutely awful cancelation process and I'm really just about to hire a lawyer and sue them. I've been going to this gym regularly since they opened, and I really love it. The classes and instructors are great, the front desk people always greet me when I walk in, the equipment is top notch, and it's CLEAN! WARNING!!!! This gym isn't worth going to even if it was free. The gym is unorganized, dirty and barely functional. I was a member for a year and when going to cancel I was told that I had to go in to cancel and fill out information. I received my confirmation that I cancelled my membership on 9/4/18. I was then continuously charged monthly membership costs as well as service fees that totaled $100. When I caught these charges, I called to dispute the charges. I was told over the phone that I could come in Monday-Friday between 9am-12pm and that nothing could be done. The girl was uninformed, unhelpful and refused to share her name. Ten minutes later I called their corporate office. Complained about my experience with the gym and they contacted the gym and spoke to the manager. Corporate office then issued me a refund for the $100 I was incorrectly charged. It seems this is a recurring issue with this gym. Shame on them for stealing from their former members. read more

This gym is seriously declining. Ive been an active member for over 7 months and thanks to the amazing personal trainer there have made a lot of progress. The problem with the gym is their cleanliness, organization and management. The machines are rarely cleaned now that the janitor quit, many machines have been broken for months. The worst offense however is how many times ive been lied to. The manager lied when i asked to cancel my trainer subscription that i could get a refund. Manager told me it was taken care of and i would not be charged. Until i was. He then told me he never could have gotten me a refund and it isn't up to him. That i is when i requested to close my account on august 5th. Apparently closing accounts can only be done by the manager when he is in the office 10-5 and if he's not busy and remembers. I have called every day for the past 2 weeks and left messages and not recieved a call back. I have joined planet fitness which is next door, double the space, cheaper, cleaner, a happier environment. In short, retro is like a roach motel. You can check in but you can never leave. read more

I just started a membership with childcare, added my boyfriend onto my credit card, thinking he would get the Benefit of child care as well, but he doesn't. Childcare sucks, none on Sundays, and from 830-1230 Saturdays??? So I'm paying extra money a month to not use the childcare to my advantage? Place is a joke, never a manager on site. I emailed bethlehempa@retrofitness.net ATTN: Monty (The manager) back on 5/16/18 requesting to cancel my membership! I was recently billed on 6/4/18! I called Retro Fitness in Bethlehem first thing this morning and spoke to Monty himself. He said I emailed the front desk email. That he'd look into and call me back at 9:30. I called Retro Fitness back at 10am because I haven't received the promised 9:30 phone call. Surprise surprise Monty is not available. Left a message to have him call me as soon as he gets back. In the meantime I forwarded my previous email again to Bethlehem Retro so it would be right on top for him to see! Time stamped showing I previously sent it on 5/16/18. I called back at 11am and again Monty was not available and the Alissa who answered the phone didn't seem to be much help either. FINALLY a polite woman named Yamina spoke with me, found my email and cancelled my membership! Wouldn't refund me, stating something about 30 days but honestly whatever, keep the $15! Absolutely ridiculous how unprofessional the manager is at that gym and the hassle he puts you through in order to cancel your membership! While the front desk staff are friendly and the equipment and locker rooms are clean, the training was a bad experience for me. I went to my one free session that came with membership. When scheduling the session, I was told to let the trainer know what I was interested in, and what my goals were. My session would then address my specific needs. I told the trainer at the start of the session of my desire to learn and use the circuit equipment, but was told I wouldn't get results that way. I was told I needed to use the free weights instead. Even after I repeatedly said I had no desire to use them, my session was done only with free weights. Then came the sales pitch for personal training [something like a used car sales pitch]. I left with no usable information other than my confirmed dislike of free weights. I knew that walking in. A wasted hour, a wasted free session, and an unwanted sales pitch. I'm not a censor, but maybe better video choices are a good idea. When working out, I don't know that I need to watch Reese Witherspoon naked and having sex with multiple partners on multiple screens. The hours are good, the equipment is top notch. I just need to figure out how to use it. read more

I have been a member at this gym for two years now. I've never had an issue or problem up until now. I enjoy the classes and gave two stars because it's actually a great gym. My gripe is with how management handles customer issues. Mine is with the personal training. I had cancelled my personal training back in July of 2019, and in early January of this year I was charged for a month of personal training. I brought the issue up to one of the trainers at the gym who helped me cancel and told me to give it a few days until my refund goes thru. Well it never did and when I called it was impossible to get a hold of (Kevin) the manager. Weeks passed and I was told he's reviewing my account? Well why? It's simple refund my money as I'm not using the personal training sessions. I even tried contacting abc financial and they can't do anything. I was told it has to be resolved with the gym. I just want a refund. Last time I called was last Monday 2/17/20 and was told they need to speak to the trainer I was training with to verify that I wanted the account cancelled and not put on a freeze. (The trainer doesn't even work at this gym anymore). So how's that going to happen and why involve her. I guess my word isn't valued at this gym the $120.00 is more important to keep then my satisfaction and experience. After this experience I would never ever utilize personal training at this gym and I will highly recommend no one else does to avoid having the same issue. Do NOT join this gym. I joined and recieved a complimentary personal training session with Luis. At the end of the meeting, Luis told me about the personal training session but it was too expensive for me so I told him I was not interested in signing up. He told me that he would give me two more free personal training sessions and that I just needed to sign for the health waiver on the electronic pad. It was unknown to me at the time but Luis actually LIED to me and tricked me into signing a personal training agreement. He copy and pasted my signature onto a document without my consent and attempted to commit fraud in order to pocket comission for personal training sessions I flat out said I did NOT want. Even though corporate knows about this, I have not been charged, and the general manager at the time has expressed that Luis has done this many times and apologized for this behavior, I have still NOT received written confirmation that the contract Luis FORGED and CONNED me into is void. What's even more disgusting is that Luis is now being considered for General Manager EVEN THOUGH I informed the company of this. The owners have not fired an employee for conning members into memberships they don't want. Ive never written a yelp review and usually whenever I see negative ones I assume the customer messed up and is upset but in this case, the General Manager is agreeing with me, told me that the way Luis acted is wrong, apologized, and now the general manager is somehow being replaced by the very employee who conned me. I'm disgusted and shocked that Retro Fitness not only hires sketchy people like this, but then promotes employess like this to GENERAL MANAGER even after attempting to commit fraud. read more

Have been a member for 6 months and things have slowly but surely gotten worse. The pluses- the equipment is great, the personal training and group training classes are awesome!!.The down sides- management is confused at best, disorganized most days. our accounts have been billed incorrectly 3 separate times & noone has an explanation. The hours can be inconvenient (closes at 7pm on the weekends & most holidays open only 4 hours) The Free classes are difficult to get into and don't follow the requests of the customers. The new line of "Fitness" shakes are disgusting *and not fit at all if you are smart enough to ask for the nutritional page on them. (20-45 grams of sugar !) yet they continue to push them on everyone. Seems like they are more focused on getting new members with little to no focus on keeping the members they have. Have spoke to the "assistant" manager several times but things continue to get worse. Doubt we will be renewing our membership read more

I signed a year membership. When the year ended, I was automatically billed for the next month. I called to cancel my membership, but was told I had to come to the location to do that. When I came to the location, I was told I couldn't cancel my membership until I paid for the as yet unpaid month. Sleazy. read more

The gym is not professional and the room in which classes are held is small. The room is not as clean, as it should be and it gets humid and wet, due to the gym not turning the central air on. They only have a standing fan, which is not the best and a floor dehumidifier. The staff is very self serving and does not take customer feedback seriously. I attended a class in which a customer decides to go in and out of the class and decides to dance like a monkey, while being disruptive to instructor and others in front of him. It was disrespectful to the class and the staff (Luis and his girlfriend) thought that was ok. They said he had dementia, which is now even more concerning, since he was on his own and violating his privacy . Luis stated as long as he does not bother anyone, that is fine but he was allowed to be disruptive, with his jumping in and out of the class more than 4 times, like a monkey and I am not kidding. Save your money and go to Maxx Fitness. read more

First the good: the gym is clean, brightly lit, and the equipment is nice and the variety of equipment is available. Sanitizing wet wipes are available to wipe down equipment instead of dry towels and spray bottles. Members are serious about their workout, meaning you won't see someone sitting on the leg machine texting for 15 minutes. The bad: staff is pretty useless for anything except making smoothies. Managers are the only ones allowed to do anything with your account (freeze, cancellation, billing issues) so if you need to do something and they aren't on, you have to come back another day. Only half of the TVs work on the treadmills, so if it's crowded, you're probably just staring at a green screen or snow during your run. I mentioned it multiple times and I only received the "I'll let the manager know" line. The music they play in the gym is loud, distracting, and usually nothing but rap or annoying club R&B. Bring your own music. Also, if you want to cancel, be ready to pay for an extra month, since there is a 30 day wait before it stops withdrawing money when you cancel (convenient to go past your next withdrawal date) I'm sure this was in the contract, but it doesn't seem fair. My suggestion, take a tour of planet fitness and see if you like it for less money read more
