One of the cheapest spots in the city to pick up a board game. The pros are they have a massive collection, a giant library filled with rows and rows of games and collectibles. If I'm in the area, I used to stop by to peruse because I'm that kind of geek. I honestly haven't made them exercise their customer service skills because I research my board games and know exactly what I want. But I can see that newbies could be overwhelmed with all the options coming in. We decided to buy a board game for a friend's child, age 6. My boyfriend ran off to find a game at Meeple without consulting me first. He came out empty-handed, saying there was nothing suitable for that age range. I'm SURPRISED. There's a board game for everything there. I'm not an expert for games for six-year-olds, so I just Googled, found a dad blog and decided Catan Junior was it and purchased online here. They processed our order immediately and were ready for pick up the same day if needed. The truth is my BF was about to check out at Indigo, which is 30% more before I reminded him to check at Meeple again for prices. The only difference *I think* is the packaging art is slightly different and the box is larger at Meeple. If their staff actively asks every customer walking in and tries to help, they can convert more casual or newbie gamers--what a lost opportunity.

I normally dread stepping into a toy store especially Toys R Us... half the time it's controlled chaos with rampant kids running about screaming. And those are the sales associates. Going into a toy store near Christmas requires planning that rivals the landing of a country leader into Pearson. So imagine my surprise that Mastermind is actually a different experience. The store is a coloured in bold vibrant primary shades. It does sit in a strip mall area that is normally terrible for parking. With one of the largest dim sum spots in Mississauga, the medium sized lot easily gets overwhelmed. The nice thing is that Mastermind has 5 (or 6) spots just for them only... the signs are marked off. So it's actually quite easy to find a spot. The store itself isn't very big... especially when you look east across the street and see the mammoth Toys R Us and Babies R Us. This mastermind is maybe... 20% of the floor space of Toys R Us. But what it is missing in size, it makes up in other ways. The place is super well organized, easy to spot everything, unbelievably clean, and run by associates who are fairly attentive. Everything is marked clearly with big signs and you do have a well curated selection of good stuff. They only stock well known brand names of quality and not some low quality item just to fill shelves. They have the latest scooters, science toys, build your own robots, a nice medium sized selection of really good books for all ages, the latest hot toys (I think at the time it was Fingerlings), stuff animals including the ever popular Beanie Boos, Legos (lots and lots), arts and crafts, ... you can tell this goes on and on. It caters towards every price range too. You can find build your own robot sets as low as $15 to large lego sets for $100 to a GIANT realistic looking 7 foot GIRAFFE at $800 (I think thats how much it was). I came here with the intention of finding an unique cute little thing for a gift and instantly found the Mastermind exclusive Beanie Boos fox. Perfect. I've recently come across some free time, and was looking for painting supplies as opposed to models as I have lots of unpainted guys. The store seems to be modelled after a GW layout, with lots of gaming tables in the front with full scenery to get your attention Having been to a number of comic book stores that morphed into gaming stores it was so refeshing to walk into a non-GW gaming store that was clean, uncluttered and did not smell. They had a small RPG section in the store, but that's not the crux of their business. There's a tonne of Privateer Press and GW product in the store. They even had Warhammer Fantasy Battalion boxes in store. My wallet started to drool. Anyways off to the painting stuff which was why I was there. They had Vallejo Game, and Model, and the airbrush versions too. I believe that there was GW paint as well. They had a couple of the bigger Vallejo paint sets (the $300+ ones) but I wish that they had the 8 and 16 bottle sets They also carry Citadel Paint Really liked the store. I'll definitely come back in the future. Plus its closer to my house than the two that I recently reviewed in Brampton.

He left with 3 red bags of toys, books and puzzles. They have a TON of puzzles. He picked up 4-5 licensed character puzzles (Mickey Mouse, Cars, Minions). They have a good "art aisle", which has everything you could possibly need. Paint, crayons, markers etc. There are Crayola brand items. There is a "boy aisle" that has Thomas the Tank Engine, some Lego, remote control cars, Hot Wheels and other toys. I'm pretty much listing off what I can remember. They obviously have a "girl aisle" but I cannot remember a single thing in that aisle, as we didn't spend much time there. Then they have a "baby aisle" which has some Fisher Price toys, some clothes and bibs and stuff. Like I said, they have an okay selection of toys if you're not picky. In addition, not ALL prices are deals but most are, I guess. They had some remote control cars for $12, which I thought were kind of expensive, as they were small dinky cars. I went into this warehouse not sure what to expect however I realized that the same items they have in store are probably 50% cheaper here. I found the same Hotwheels playset for $29.99. They have Transformers that I had purchased at Walmart for $20 at a very good price of $9.99. Other then the fact you dont get a shopping cart and that you are inside a warehouse the prices are very good. However most of the items were books. Before you go to Walmart go here and check it out. Silly Goose Kids is smart for a couple of reasons: 1) Its run by people who have been in the kids retail business (and they're mothers) for years so they get what consumers want and they know their products well. 2) They have a wide range of toys for a wide range of budgets and also carry feeding accessories and clothing. 3) They are thisclose to Cake Town Cafe (http://tinyurl.com/3cl3raj) which means I, and many other moms will be traveling there many times dosed with scone-y goodness and bleary eyed from lattes willing to buy anything that will make our screaming infants STFU for 15 minutes while we enjoy our sugar high. And the best part: I didn't feel pressured to buy anything despite letting my whiny sleep-deprived 10 month old destroy the entire train set table and back a ride-on car right into a display. You know, cause destroying a toy store is a nice break from chewing up all the books in the library. Parenting is all about providing variety!

I read her every item my sister recommended I buy for my nephew and she was very patient and kind while helping me decide on the perfect combination of gifts to make his covid birthday special. The associate, helped me go through the virtual checkout so I could use my gift card and had the gifts wrapped and ready to go in a couple minutes. When I arrived at the store I called them and they brought out the gifts and placed them on the table for curbside pickups. The service was perfect, quick, friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this toy store. Would I go back? Absolutely! This was actually my most pleasant curbside pickup experience in all of covid. Thank you for your exceptional customer service.

Tonight we were late for a kid's birthday party next door to this place, but realized it would be closed when the party was over. So I agreed we could go in, very quickly, and in about three minutes I spent about $60. What an adorable, thoughtfully curated, independent toy store. Littered with Pusheen the cat, Aaron's thinking putty, butter rum life savers - yes we left with some of each. We don't live in the area, but this gem is worth coming back for.
