I've loved this shop for so many years, and I'm slapping myself why I haven't written a review yet. This is a hidden gem tucked in the basement next to the TD in Chinatown. One of the cheapest spots in the city to pick up a board game. The pros are they have a massive collection, a giant library filled with rows and rows of games and collectibles. If I'm in the area, I used to stop by to peruse because I'm that kind of geek. I honestly haven't made them exercise their customer service skills because I research my board games and know exactly what I want. But I can see that newbies could be overwhelmed with all the options coming in. We decided to buy a board game for a friend's child, age 6. My boyfriend ran off to find a game at Meeple without consulting me first. He came out empty-handed, saying there was nothing suitable for that age range. I'm SURPRISED. There's a board game for everything there. I'm not an expert for games for six-year-olds, so I just Googled, found a dad blog and decided Catan Junior was it and purchased online here. They processed our order immediately and were ready for pick up the same day if needed. The truth is my BF was about to check out at Indigo, which is 30% more before I reminded him to check at Meeple again for prices. The only difference *I think* is the packaging art is slightly different and the box is larger at Meeple. If their staff actively asks every customer walking in and tries to help, they can convert more casual or newbie gamers--what a lost opportunity. read more

Located in what appears to be a China town area of Toronto in the basement of a modern building is a treasure trove for board gamers, role players and miniature gamers. The word mart is well chosen - if the aisles were wider trolleys would be the order of the day - think a cross between Whole Foods and Home Depot for gamers. The rear of the store is dedicated to board games ordered a-z with a vast selection. Paints and model supplies are broad with all major brands represented - normally I see in a store 1-2 brands - here it's half a dozen, guaranteeing pretty much any hue you are looking for. The staff are friendly and know where things are - after a while it just becomes easier to ask for help as it can be overwhelming. Great fun. read more

A friend recommended this store to me since I love board games. I was not prepared for the sheer volume of games they have! Aisles go on forever and I could easily spend hundreds (if not thousands) if I had the money. I was finding addons to games I already own that I didn't even know existed. Meeplemart also have a huge selection of other hobby items like gundams, card games, and Funko Pops. The staff wasn't actually as friendly as I'd expect when I tried to talk to them but they were probably busy. It might be best for my wallet to come here as little as possible so I don't try to buy out the store! But I definitely recommend this store for casual and hardcore hobbyists alike! read more

As many others have pointed out there are pro's and con's to this place. Positive points are their huge stock of items (board games, miniatures, paints, accessories, etc.), their easy-to-use website, easily accessible location (if you're downtown), and very decent prices. The con is, of course, their dismal customer service. The employees are just not very helpful. This is fine if you're knowledgeable about the products you want but in any other scenario (i.e. the ones where you actually walk into a brick and mortar store) they're pretty useless. Due to a lack of alternatives it's still a store I go to when I'm in the area but it's certainly not the best customer experience you're going to have. read more

Online buyers beware!!! You may receive damaged products and rude customer service that offers you nothing. I've just ordered 11 games/expansions from them online, shipped to Calgary. 4 of my full priced games are damaged. Corners are bruised, box is dented/scratched up, in shrink wrap. The shipping container has no signs of damage. Meaning: meeplemart are shipping their damaged products to their online customers. When I email them with clear pictures of the damage and inform them about the issue, manager Chris Lefort responded saying that since I have other damaged (discounted) boxes within my order, I should not care so much about broken boxes (even though I paid full prices for them). He also said "the industry is plagued with inconsistent packaging and shipping issues and what is deemed as damaged versus "normal" condition becomes a very thin line." This has been very frustrating and disappointing. Yes, the damage may seem minor and the pieces inside are fine, but still, the damaged outer box is an eyesore on my shelf and will definitely decrease the re-sale value if I choose to sell in the future. And I did pay full price for them. It might have been better if they just apologized and said nothing else, but I did find the tone of the response offensive and putting the blame on the buyer. Boardgamebliss, 401, or greatboardgames may be a better alternative, as I have also ordered from them before and had no issues in the past. read more

Hidden at a basement in Chinatown, this place can easily be missed. There is a small signboard that says Meeple Mart above the entrance to what seems to lead to offices space. You go down the stairs and behind closed doors with a peephole is Meeple Mart!! This place is huge. About half of the store dedicated to boardgames and the other half game pieces and other stuff. They also have a special clearence section. Not a lot of would normally buy but look what I found: Puerto Rico - one of my favorite strategy games. It was $5 off or original price of $37.95 so I decided to buy it. Didn't get to browse much of their selection of games as they were closing but will definitely come back again. read more

And, while I feel my regular haunt is still where I'll be doing most of my shopping, MeepleMart has made me realize there's a world outside what I already knew. This store is tied for the cheapest boardgames in the city - hands down. In fact, the other store is about a buck cheaper on some titles, while MeepleMart is a buck cheaper on others. This store is a geek paradise. You know you're in nerd central here - people painting models at the back, rolling dice, and getting their game on. But - hey - if you weren't down with that, you wouldn't have come here in the first place. What really makes this place shine is their discount aisle. You can get 30 - 50 percent off games because the box is a little damaged. Lets be honest, when you shove them on your overflowing shelf, some dents will happen anyway. If you need board games, you need MeepleMart, in the heart of Toronto's China Town. read more

I see that there was a few reviews about this place that are quite positive. So it saddens me to have to report this to you, faithful gamers. Today I went to 401 Games to get a price check on Star Trek Ascendancy and its two expansions. After finding out this price, I called Meeplemart. I was eager to give them a shot to get my business. After i called them, they assured me they would honour a cheaper price, volunteering to beat their competitor's price. Armed with this assurance, I endured the 40 minute transit to Meeplemart. Upon arrival I was told that they had called 401 games and they wouldn't honour their price. They claimed that they called 401 games and that their competitor was out of stock. This was a lie. I couldn't believe it. I had just left 401 games with visual confirmation that there were indeed all three articles in stock. I was stunned at the vulgar display. He still wouldn't honour the better price, even after I showed him my game and business reviews I tried to offer to promote their store as well. Still no compliance. After the bold-faced lie, I should have expected no better. These poor business practices are archaic and should never be supported. That said, the location is poorly marked. In a basement, and the stock is jammed onto shelves in a warehouse style arrangement. It is not a pleasant place to shop. The staff seem uninterested, and lazy. When asked to assist me, I have only found one staff member who seems to genuinely be interested in being there. The only upside to this store is that they have a wide selection. But with the online community, that doesn't count for much anymore. I would rather shop online than get any product from Meeplemart In the end I got the three items at 401 Games... they had plenty of stock left after I made my purchase. read more

Was in Toronto for a few days and wanted to check out some tabletop gaming stores so I hit up the internet and Meeplemart got some rave reviews and we checked it out. Man did it blow away my expectations. Not only is this store packed floor to ceiling and aisle upon aisle with the greatest nerd products you could ever want, the staff is super friendly, and intelligent, and would love nothing more than to talk shop with you. There tabletop game selection was amazing, unfortunately they were sold out of a lot, but the guys behind the counter are always getting new merch, it just flys off the shelves. While I came here for tabletop RPG's and Magic the Gathering stuff, this is far and away the best place in Toronto for Miniatures. Whether you are playing Tabletop RPG's, Warhammer, or any other Wargame, this is the place for models, bases, paints and more. In addition, their rear portion of the store has an incredible selection of board games of all types, and a big collection of Magic cards. Meeplemart is deffinetly the first place i'll head every time I find my way to Toronto. read more

Walking into Meeplemart you are greeted by a very large and dark basement. Pros - Very large amount of different board games, supplies, miniatures, card sleeves, everything related to gaming, selection is great - The clearance section is really cool and you can definitely get a deal, I wish I had more time to look - Prices are very competitive, either the lowest or off by a few dollars Cons - Bad customer service. We immediately felt that elitist gamer vibe from the employees and didn't feel that welcomed. I asked two different employees a question or so and both of them sort of snubbed me or gave me short, unhelpful, and borderline rude answers. - Bag check in when you walk in I give this place 3/5 for the amount of great stuff that you can find, but the customer service and the vibe absolutely ruined it for me. If you don't care about those aspects though this is a paradise for any gamer. I came here with some friends because we are playing DnD and wanted miniatures. I'm very new to gaming -- my partner is big on board games and I've come to appreciate and enjoy them. This is my first time playing DnD. Anyway, I go in and ask where I can find a mini for a drow. Immediately I feel stupid from the way the employee behind the desk responds to me. Then, I'm made to feel like a thief because I'm asked for my purse (to put behind the desk). Honestly, if you're so afraid of theft, set up security gates. I heard about this place from a friend that's into tabletop gaming and meeplemart is known for having a huge selection in stock. The problem isn't the inventory or prices but the space and inexperienced staff. As soon as I walked in I was asked to bag check, which was unusual in a low value retail environment. I don't believe any other board game places I've been to in recent memory does this. The place was organized as it relates to stuff on shelves, but there are dozens of boxes and chairs laying in the middle of the space. Additionally it is extremely dark and at times I had to use my phone's flashlight to ensure I don't trip on anything and find what I want. There are better places with great customer service that have incredible inviting spaces. Ditch the lousy staff and put up some more lighting. read more

If you know exactly what you need, this place is great, but don't expect much help from some of the staff. My previous visit I stood by the front counter as one of the employees was filling out an online order, completely ignoring me. I asked if a certain game was in stock, and he said "if it is it's on the shelf", pointing to the general area of where it should be. I then asked if they knew their phone was not working. He said yup. It's been out for several days. It doesn't take much to put a little note on the website or Facebook. My last visit I was looking for card sleeves and again stood at the counter for several minutes while one employee was being trained, and another was with her back turned. Finally I was asked if I needed help and someone came out to show me where the specific sleeves were. Unfortunately the size I needed wasn't in stock. When I asked when they were getting more in, she said, "I don't know." I then inquired about possibly special ordering sleeves, and she chuckled and said, "not for sleeves." read more

If they didn't have a sign out on the street, you'd probably miss them, since they're located in the basement of an office building. Once you step inside, though, you'll find a massive warehouse-like space dedicated to board gaming and miniatures. They're primarily an internet retailer, and customers to the store are basically wandering through their vast inventory. Employees are focused on filling online orders, and are constantly retrieving items from the shelves and boxing them up. If you're the sort that likes a friendly greeting and conversation from the staff, you'll be disappointed. Personally, I like to be left alone to browse without interruption, so I was right at home. Their prices are consistent with other internet retailers, meaning you'll be paying below MSRP. Other than the "New" section, everything is organized alphabetically, and is very easy to look through. Meeplemart is hands down one of the best board game stores in Toronto (the other being 401 Games). They have competitive pricing and an excellent selection. read more

I didn't realize customer service was an issue here. Most of MeepleMart's bad reviews are related to their interaction with their clientele. Since this place was near my work, I thought i'd check them out. They do have a wide selection of items. If you can't find something, they might have it. The prices aren't as competitive. I have found better prices at their main competitor. I would have given them a three star, but their customer service will prevent me from ever going back, as i'm sure 401 Games will have anything i'm looking for, and at better prices. Not to mention exceptional customer service. I came here to purchase two different sized sets of sleeves. I spoke to the gentlemen. He gave me the correct size for one set of the cards, but not the second set of the larger cards. I returned about a week later to simply get an exchange, as i hoped it would be an easy fix. The same gentlemen attended me, but claimed that their policy prevented them from exchanging the sleeves. I mentioned that it was him who suggested the sleeve. He was still unable to help me. He claimed that he doesn't know the sleeve size of every card in the store. Granted that's true. At their main competitor, they knew enough about the products they are selling to help me with the exact same scenario, or found someone that did, and then double checked online to confirm that the item was correct. This was definitely a missed opportunity on their part. Trust me, try somewhere else first, before coming here. read more

I'm not sure how many of you have actually been to the old MeepleMart on Carlaw, but the new and improved MeepleMart is about 4-6 times bigger than the original. This is my first time here since the move and can't believe how big it is. MeepleMart now not only sells board games, minis and gaming accessories, but they also buy/sell/trade video games as well. They also have a pretty large gaming area in the back that has a bunch of mini tables, a bunch of tables for board games as well as video game consoles hooked up. Personally I go here for the board game selection as it's pretty large and the pricing is really competitive. I'm glad that now that they're actually easier to get to. read more

Wish they still had an open gaming area but that closed as there were a number of incidents of people stealing the painted terrain. Won't take returns on falsely advertised products. Bought a product that their own website touts as made of "laminated chip board", but which is actually cardboard. Such being useless (it began to fray the first time I took it out of the box) I tried to return it and was told that they don't take back open products, that they can't be expected to know all of their products, and that I need to "educate myself". I did educate myself; I read the spec on their website, which was false. I've spent several hundred dollars there over the past year, but that's the last forty bucks they get from me. I discovered this store three or four years ago and it's been my go-to store for board games ever since. About half of my collection comes from MeepleMart. Faster than buying the games online, and cheaper than most local alternatives (I used to get my games from Snakes & Lattes, but their prices are about 20% higher than MeepleMart's), and they have such a vast selection. They also have a great deal of accessories, like dice and card sleeves. I've made good use of the card sleeves, protecting the very games I've just bought from the dreaded Cheeto fingers. The people are friendly, and the few times I've asked for help in making a decision or needed a recommendation, they've been able to help. read more

It's a pretty sweet store. I'm a woman but I've never experienced harassment there, which puts it a cut above just about every other gaming shop in the world. Lots of selection, especially if you do your own miniature painting. I could and have spent an hour on there drooling over all the dice. Many of the staff were rude and unhelpful, I simply asked where I could find Warhammer sets, one employee said 'I don't know it's a big store.' -Bag check at the time I had a backpack with more than $700 of value inside and did not feel comfortable leaving it with someone I had never met or taking it out for everyone to see. Additionally, they will demand you check a purse as well. -Non-competitive prices, aside from the clearance section you can expect to find Warhammer models at about the same price as GW. -Bad shopping Experience. The store is set up like a warehouse and makes it difficult to find items. While the selection of product is great, the owner is rude -- I tried to return a product and he just grumbled and said he was too busy and come back another day (some sale was on). Came back and then he said it was too late to accept returns, even though the product was defective. I never got a receipt so had no idea what the return policy was so a little unfair. If you have to shop there and not a place with nice staff like Sword & Board or Harry Tarantula, then make sure you get a receipt and open up / check out the stuff you buy while you're still in the store. If its busted or not what it says on the box, don't leave the store till you get your money back or an exchange. read more

I've been walking past this gem for months now, and, unsurprisingly, I've been too dense or lost in the ozone to spot it. It was only when I googled its old location in the east end that I saw Meeplemart is now right next to the TD Bank on Spadina which I use all the time! I made my way down a short flight of steps to the basement, a large room with shelves full of boardgames. Walls covered with miniatures and models of different makes and genres. Racks of paints from Citadel, Vallejo, and others. A sub-level with several large tables for actual gaming and modelling. Display towers of finished miniatures. Prices are reasonable, certainly comparable to the competition. It seemed that all the GW stores dropped off the face of the earth. 401 Games no longer carries P3 paints. Hairy T, while still a great store, does not have a great selection (and my allergies make it tough going into that back room). It's nice to have a place in Toronto with a great selection of tabletop gaming supplies, especially downtown! The folks who put this shop together did a great job. What a surprise, MeepleMart is a hidden gem on the busy Spandia. You will only see a tiny sign and a door. Once you inside you need to head to the basement and wow. You gotta see this place is person. It is massive here with all sorts of board games to figurines. I still cannot believe how big this place is. They have all the board games at the back sorted by Alphabetical order. The last wall is for the clearance games usually damaged box which was minor and they were additional 20-30% off the regular games. MeepleMart pricing is very competitive if not the cheapest in Toronto. Will be back to pick up some more games in the future. You can also order online and go pick up at the store for free. If you don't want to go thru all the hundreds of games they have in stock. read more

I discovered this store around 2 years ago and have been hooked ever since! for First time visiters it is essential to look up on a map where it is! the store is located in the basement of a building on the edge of chinatown on spidina. Pros Store is well kept and clean, a central staff area is where you cash out. all backpacks and bags have to be left behind the counter, they give you a picket to claim your bag after. HUGE selection of products! if you can think it, chances are these guys have it or can get it. Stock list includes: Citadel products (Some forge world!) Battlefoam cases (Most of the upper shelves are packed with foam or cases) Reaper minis, the full vellajeo, army painter and p3 lines, airbrush supplies from badger, many Third party miniature and conversion bits manufacturers (Spellcrow and Kromlech to name a few!) corvus belli, WYRD minis, Flames of War, Halo Ground Command. and a staggering amount of board games, Trading cards and anime figures! as well for anyone looking for the Fantasy Flight Games Warhammer 40k RPG manuals they have them all. biggest pro out of all of them is their discount on GW minis, ( a box of Horus Heresy mk3 Marines is about 51$ Without tax at Meeplemart and 60$ without tax direct from GW) Recently GW has Allowed MeepleMart to sell GW products online! it's so nice if you live far away! Cons Difficult to figure out where it i when you first make a trip. While not an isssue with the store staff or owner there is A LOT of theft that happens in the store! this Really hurts both the store and the hobbies that people enjoy! recently they had to close their Gaming Space because of theft and destruction of the terrain left there! If I'm in downtown Toronto and need to buy board or war games, this is the first stop I make. Excellent selection in a great space, fair pricing for a brick-and-mortar store, and the staff generally quite helpful (at least on the occasions I've shopped). Mail-order business also good with fast shipping. There is one other pretty good shop in downtown Toronto, but this would be my *first* choice to visit and buy from when in the city. Only caveat is the lack of parking on the busy downtown streets anywhere near the store. Otherwise, highly recommended. read more

One of my 2 Favorite Games Stores in Toronto! This store certainly gets top marks from me as the ultimate place to buy every conceivable title of Board Game, literally 1,000's of Games! Although this location has been there for a few years, I haven't gone to Meeplemart since their other location, which I went to often and spent a small fortune at) which did in fact have more game tables to try out games and meet for weekly game play with various game clubs and groups. What they lack for with only 4 - 5 tables though they make up for by having the lowest prices anywhere in the city or online (and they do a TON of mail-order online). I called and went online to 401 Games and was quoted $149.95 for the 10th Anniversary Edition of Ticket to Ride. Meeplemart, even without running a special sale, came in at $105.99, so with tax I saved $50.oo! And with a game that was still on Sale from their Mega Boxing Day Sales I got another top selling game for the same total as the other store sells just the one game for. Well worth going there! The prices are ALWAYS LOWER than anywhere else, even Regular or Sales. If I'm not mistaken they will even match or beat any advertised price from any other Canadian Store or Canadian Online Site. If they had of had twice as many gaming tables then I would have given this store a full 5 out of 5, but you can't always have everything, and they have more than enough to win me over as a regular customer! read more
