I'm a San Diego native and yes it's home but Colorado has my heart. When you arrive at Barr Lake there is an entrance fee but it was minimal. I purchased the park pass. It was worth it. When you drive through the gate the speed is slow because there are multiple parking lots and turn off areas and pedestrians so keep an eye out. I drove to the last lot where the information center is and had no problem finding a parking spot. There were several people and groups already there and setting off on their walk. I joined them. It was a clear October day in 2020 and I was excited to walk and gawk and snap pictures. I walked about for over three hours and met some lovely people. I believe I snapped over 200 shots that day. It's one of my all time favourite places in Colorado.

Recently got a Colorado State Parks pass with the purchase of my license plates for my new vehicle…read moreso I decided to check out Barr Lake. It's about 30 minutes from Denver and I when I arrived it was so windy so I didn't get to explore much. I will say though, it's a beautiful State Park with tons of parking, picnic tables, benches, and places to grill and chill. A lot of trails in the park too that I can't wait to go back and check out. You can take a boat out there as well. Will update my review when I go back on a less windy day! ** Also huge shout out to Judy at the pay station- she was super friendly and very helpful with the questions I had for her. I enjoyed our conversations and she also gave me a red plastic holder to keep my state parks pass in, which I throughly enjoyed receiving. **

Looking for a nature inspired park? This is the place to go!…read more This is a nice 6-acre neighborhood park with a few activities available. There are walking trails, a play area, & an exploration area. This is not your typical plastic play equipment type of playground. In fact, it all blends into the landscape so fantastically well! It looks so natural, which was the goal, so kudos to everyone who imagined and made this park what it is! There are three separate play areas: 1) basket swings are suspended between large beams 2) jungle gym with a small climbing rock, a climbing net, and a couple of thick ropes 3) a large "fallen" tree trunk for climbing on The play equipment was made by: Handcrafted Nature's Instruments. Within this First Creek Park is the First Creek Exploration Play Zone. This Exploration Play Zone is what I came to check out. It is a little section which facilitates discovery and learning. More parks could set aside a small area like this! There are signs with suggestions, information, and question prompts. It's pretty cool! There are benches in the shade near the exploration area. This park has no restrooms and no parking lot that I could locate. I parked in the residential street near the end of E. 54th Avenue. Read the parking signs to make sure you're legally parked. I didn't explore every corner of this park, so I look forward to seeing other people's pictures of what I missed!

There is a gazebo and a couple bbq pits by the playground. On the sign is an endorsement from a program called T.O.P.S (Take Off Pounds Successfully), which I think is great! Our hike was extra special because it was led by Maria the Park Ranger. Maria's knowledge and passion for Chautauqua was incredible to witness. You can tell these mountains mean so much to her! We learned about the landscape, wildlife, Natives, and so much more. Our hike was simple but we saw so much along the way. The views of the flatirons are hard to beat. The path was busy but it was a beautiful saturday morning and it still didn't feel overly crowded. We saw lots of doggies, runners, and families and friends meeting for a morning hike to kick off their weekend. It was pure magic. I hope I get to come back one day!!

I'm a tourist and the like and I enjoyed it! We lucked into parking on a beautiful, busy Saturday morning. They have very nice restrooms at the Ranger station, and more overflow port a potties around if needed too. The nearby trail is highly accessible and it doesn't take long for some views to pay off. It's a decently steep incline, but nothing crazy at all. Once you're into the trees the shade helps against the thin air and the sun, and it's so quiet and serene. No mosquitoes like I'm used to back home. Loved all the birds (shoutout magpies) and also seeing everyones' dogs.

Plenty of street parking and additional parking located across the street at the Shops at Northfield. I appreciate the nice elevated and covered stage, great sound system, clean bathrooms, beautiful landscaping, built in terraced seating on the West side and plenty of green space for blankets and camp chairs. MCA Stapleton also schedules great local food trucks for all the events, but you are also just one block from Torchy's Tacos, Five Guys, Cuban Cafe, and Brick Pizza so if you get hungry you have plenty of options.
