I've been here quite a few times. The piercer did well and was knowledgeable. I had been going to Sean since he was at his last shop (Divine) because I liked his work. The first three tattoos I got from him were great, just what I wanted. But the fourth one. This was a horrible experience. I messaged him on instagram to put down a deposit about a week out from the date I was to come in. I messaged him IDEAS of what I wanted and paid $100 to reserve the time. Once I got there. I had to wait well over an hour after the time I reserved. Here's the cherry on top. When he finally had time for me he asked what we were doing... I asked if he drew the sketch and he just picked one of the photos I had sent for reference to tattoo on me. I should have just asked for the deposit back and left atp. I called ahead to make sure they did piercings and they let me know that Beth is available Tuesday-Saturday from noon to 6 pm I believe. They don't take appointments, just walk ins. She was able to see me immediately, but there was another woman who came in after and ended up having to wait 30 min. There were a variety of different earrings I could choose from that ranged from $30-$60. Mine were $50/each--which I felt like was comparable to other places and was a fair price. Beth was very thorough with disinfecting my ear and was patient with me. I got a little light headed since I'm not good with needles and she was very understanding. Like most tattoo shop piercers, they use the hollow needles instead of a gun. She gave very thorough post-care instructions as well. Very happy with the results! read more

Tagged along with a friend of mine for her to get a septum piercing done after work by Beth (which is also wonderful!), and I just so happened to land myself in a tattooing chair, no clue what happened! I love that Revelations always allows walk-ins, as alot of other shops typically only do by appointment. I had a few saved ideas of things I'd like to get done, and lucky me there was one artist currently open for a walk-in! Jorge and Vilma are kind of quiet at first, but once you get them talking about music they warm up to you, and you will have a great conversation to pass the time with. I requested bats be added to my tattoo, and they did it without any questions. All the other artists in the shop seemed like a good time as well, and I know from looking at Revelation's Instagram that they're all very reputable options for a good local artist to do your work! Definitely would come back again to visit the shop - I initially went in with hopes that Brent was doing walk-ins or had availability, but he was working on someone when I went in. Spent over an hour waiting on a walk in. Ladies who walked in at the same exact time as me signed their stuff, got drawings, tattooed, paid and left. All before I even got to sign anything. That didn't bother me. What DOES bother me is the girl who walked in an hour and 30 minutes after I did had someone drawing what she wanted BEFORE I SIGNED ANYTHING STILL. Ok first off, best shop in town, clean and bright and every time I come here I am impressed by the upgrades John makes investing in his shop. The whole krew is professional and make it fun to get tattooed yet you know they take themselves very serious and show you respect as a client. I think people have lost the connection with showing respect to their artist because they have easy access to tattoo studios and for some reason think artists owe them something. I've been getting tattooed by John over ten years and he has always treated me fair and the work by all the artists and Beth the piercer is nothing less than 5 stars. If you go into a business with a bad attitude you can't truly expect an artist to be thrilled to tattoo you and the fact you don't need an appointment makes the highest quality tattooing accessible to your community you should at the very least leave the expectations and bad attitude at the door. I've gotten only the best quality work from Revelation and no poor review will ever change my mind. Don't expect your artist to show you respect until you show them respect. read more

I am a fiercely loyal tattooee. My ink has been done at one place, by one artist, in one city. I no longer live in that city and that particular artist is going to be... shall we say, indisposed, for five to ten, so it's been awhile since my last tattoo. This makes me sad and needs to be rectified. The first time I went to Revelation Tattoo, the fiancé and I talked to one of their staff and were... whelmed would be the word. Their art is dinstinctive and beautiful and Aubrey was helpful, though he did look at me like I had gangrene on my nose when I explained one of my ideas. But when, as per his instructions, I emailed the shop with the design I want, I got... crickets. I struck them off the list. We went to the KC Tattoo Convention this weekend, hoping to talk to a bunch of shops at once. I failed to realize that this would be like Pavlov's dogs for me - I stepped in the door, heard that oh-so-familiar buzz and got all kinds of jazzed. I didn't have a pic of the art I really want with me, so I was willing to settle for a small hand tattoo I have been pondering instead. They probably could have tatted me with a picture of poop and I would have been okay with it, I wanted new body art so badly. I (rather pitifully, in retrospect) roamed from shop to shop, trying to find someone who would do hand work on me and couldn't seem to find anyone willing to step up. I wasn't surprised, as hand work is verboten to some tattoo artists. (They degrade faster, and are usually more intricate since the designs tend to be smaller.) Still, I was getting frustrated - too much hemming and hawing and not enough needles puncturing my skin. Finally, we stopped by Revelation Tattoos' booth. The guy we talked to (unfortunately, I didn't catch his name) was heavenly awesomeness rolled up into a colorful shell. He explained that NO ONE was going to take the time to sketch out a tiny little finger tattoo at a convention. It would take too much time, for too little payoff. Wait... that actually made sense to me, more so than the other reasons I was getting from other shops. I told him about the email and he told me he would personally make sure that I received follow up when things had calmed down. They'd been prepping for the convention and my email had probably gotten lost in the shuffle. He then looked at my glazed eyes and cautioned me to wait on it a bit, take my idea to an artist and have someone sketch it out. Yes, mistakes were made. But honesty, accountability AND the ability to reality check my highly excitable self? What a revelation. Oh, Revelation Tattoo, you totally have my business. My first time getting inked. Had visited/talked with a few other local places a year ago and I was put off by all of them. Some places made me feel intimidated or that the concept I liked wasn't do-able and one place even made me feel like the noobie I was, which made me mad and uncomfortable. So I put off my tattoo for over a year. I recently found a new concept I wanted. I found Revelation online and liked what I saw. Then a week ago we went for a visit. We were greeted by the owner John who gave me a quote right off the bat, told me it was a cool concept and said one of his guys could do it right then. We decided to hold off but we came back a few days later and got set up with Beau. Their office manager is a woman and she sat back there with us the whole time chatting away. I don't know if she did it intentionally, but eventho my hubs was with me, it was nice to have a woman in there too. Beau was incredibly friendly, polite and drew my concept out wonderfully the first time. I'll request him for my future work for sure! Not really sure I'd go anywhere else, these guys are top notch! I walked in and was not acknowledged for a solid 15 minutes. Finally someone asked me if I needed something. I said I wanted a tattoo. I sat there for 1 1/2 hours waiting and finally it was my turn. I overheard a guy who had an appointment for a specific artist and the artist walked up to him and said "idk who told you I was available but I'm booked. I'll find someone else for you". My tattoo turned out great.... the artist went beyond what my idea and sketch were but I guess it turned out just as well. I would go back here but they seriously need a receptionist or office lady because there seems to be no organization. But I think some quality tattoos are done here. read more

I paid $400 for a hand tattoo at this place and multiple places on my hand the ink has faded or skipped as in non exsistant in places. 'Bear' did this tattoo and told me to "Go pay someone else to fix it." I don't have $400 to waste. I was completely ripped off and now my hand is ruined. They are well experienced and take their time sketching out the customers ideas, no google and print bullshit. Beth was phenomenal! I had piercings done elsewhere while on vacation and the jewlery used post piercing to heal was too tight and Ill-fitting. She was so knowledgeable, quick, and got me all fixed up with new jewlery and cleaning solution. She took the time to listen and offer advice. My daughter and I went to see Melissa at Revelation and I have to say of 37 years of my life of getting work done on my body I will NEVER suggest anyone going to anyone but Melissa at Revelation Tattoo! Not only is she the sweetest woman, and as a stylist myself I was really impressed at the way I came in with a halfa**ed idea Nd she was able to say, look at me and show me the best piercing she thought would fit my face, which happened to be a dermal by my eye. I was SUPER nervous but let me tell you I have had many piercings and have half sleeves. I was expecting a lot of pain.... 2 seconds of an "weird pressure" is all I experienced!!!!!!! She was so fast as precise and pain free! This chick knows exactly what she is doing! Now my daughter got her septum pierced and was told by her friends and others how badly it hurts. She grabbed. Hold of my hand and Melissa had her pierced before she even knew what happened :) not once did she squeeze my hand. She actually said it was absolutely painless. We were both so extremely impressed with Melissa's skills and personality as well, very warm, kind and soothing woman! I will never refer anyone to another piercer but Melissa at Revelations and I know there will never be another person putting an extra hole in my daughters ear or anywhere else on our body but Melissa. 10 thumbs up FOR SURE!!!!!! read more

A friend of mine recommended this place for piercing and knows the owner so I was surprised at how rude and condescending they were!! I was getting my nose pierced and my girls were getting their ears pierced the first time. A fun mom/daughter date I thought.... All my friends said tattoo places were the best. I wanted my girls (6 & 8) ears pierced but they would have to have passports that were the past year or so, (even though their passports are current) kids change so quickly they wouldn't accept those. It's a lot of hassle, time, and money just for some quick ear piercings!!! Parents can't just sign for a minor...When I came they were very rude that kids weren't allowed... so why did they say they do kids ear piercing? And I said I came to get my nose pierced and since they couldn't do my girls I had them done at Claire's right before, the woman at the desk actually shuddered and told me how horrible that was. I walked out and will never go back or recommend this place to anyone. The way I was talked to was completely rude and condescending. read more

We went in to get an industrial piercing. Called ahead for price, $40. Get there, the lady pierced her ear and tells me $80! WTF! I gave the lady a $10 tip because she was very calm and understanding doing the piercing on a 16 year old. But as I tell other people about my experience they're telling me I got ripped off! I asked about getting a finger tatooed $100! Did they see me coming and say here she comes double the price! We won't go back. Too pricy and they doubled the price for us. When I decided to get my first large tattoo, I wasn't sure where would be the best place to go in Kansas City. I'm not originally from here, and had nobody here to recommend a place. I stopped by Revelation Tattoo to check it out and liked what I saw. Open, clean atmosphere and after I had a pretty good idea what I wanted I went back and met with Shawn Crowell. I was going for a pretty large tattoo, so I really wanted someone to take it very seriously and do a good job. Shawn asked me a lot of questions and took time to get a good idea of what I had in mind, then made an appointment for me to come back after he had done some sketching. I really liked that he didn't just want me to jump in the chair and start, he wanted to make sure he was in my head and we were on the same page about what I wanted. He was upfront about pricing, and after getting it all finished up, I would say it was worth every penny. Shawn is a dedicated artist who really cared about getting me inked up with a high-quality tat. In my opinion, especially with something as permanent as a tattoo, you want to make sure you put your trust in the right person. My cousin and I popped in on a Sunday a few weeks ago. The only downside was that we had to wait three hours for the two people in front of us to have their tattoos finished; however, the staff that walked through engaged us in friendly conversation and kept us entertained while we waited. When the artists were ready for us, it took them two minutes to get the designs down and only about thirty minutes to tattoo them - perfectly, I might add. We went here only because the shop I've always gone to (A1) wasnt available to do the specific tattoo we had in mind. A good friend recommended Revelation. We were greeted by an artist when we walked in who was busy with someone, but friendly. The only plus side was someone was available to do it right there. I quickly realized why he was available.....Hasone was completely rude and condescending, then turns around and charges nearly double everyone else around for poor quality work. He's very snippy, didnt attempt making conversation until conveniently it was time to pay. I've heard wonderful things about the other artists there, but this guy ruined it for them all, we will never go back. read more
