So.... We immediately made a reservation for a class and got a private class 2 weeks later. And here we are... The class was so fun! We started with a clump of clay and ended up with wonderful, functional, and pieces of art. Our teacher, Leah, was a great teacher! She was patient and explained everything! She had the perfect balance of teaching and then letting us work the clay a little of our own way. She kept us on track so we actually made 2 very unique pots. Very unique is my way of saying crooked and lopsided but lots of character. Lol We had a solid hour and got to work a few different pieces. For the price and friendliness and fun, I suggest this class for beginners or any level really. Oh! And check out the awesome pottery for sale! Leah is an amazing artist with some very nice pieces for sale.

And what a huge coincidence that their reply just happened to come right after I left a review for another business, one with a an unhinged owner known for trying to doxx and retaliate reviewers. He mentioned he'd be contacting other businesses I had reviewed negatively, and now -- lo and behold -- here is a reply eleven months later suddenly accusing me of being "disrespectful" instead of taking accountability for the things I mentioned in my review: no air conditioning, hot and muggy, SDCC staff badgering the instructor during the class, and the fact that there are no signs or anything saying where to go once you arrive. My daughter loves taking classes at Monart and asks to go back to camp every summer. She as brought home great pieces of art and the lessons she learned stuck because the drawings at home and school are impressive for an 8 year old ( maybe a bit biased, but they are way better than I could do!). I appreciate that they teach not only drawing but used different mediums such as water colors, oil pastels, and colored pencils. Monart is also offered at her school for after school programs. It's been very popular and another great addition to her school curriculum. I can't write enough good things about Mozart. From the kind, patient and helpful staff to the ace instruction they provide to the kids. The location and classroom is a safe space filled with happy children learning to express their creativity while having fun!

Claudia is such a warm and funny person and so patient with everyone and encouraging. Not only that she is super knowledgeable and goes over techniques and principles. Plus the studio is super cute and there's a lot of pretty calligraphy supplies for sale. She does wedding calligraphy which is how I first found her but if you just want get the vibe at the creative friday hangout (free with rsvp) I highly recommend it! I did lowercase modern calligraphy for beginners and I can't wait to do uppercase!
